Tourism Companies in Aberdeen: 663 Active Firms (2026)
Tourism companies in Aberdeen run accommodation, food service, venues, visitor services and travel sales across the city region.
Buying centres cluster around accommodation management, food and beverage operations, venue hire, visitor booking flows and travel-sales desks rather than a single technology stack. Customers are mixed: residents and corporate bookers keep weekday demand moving, while domestic and international visitors add seasonal peaks. Engagements tend to be physical and service-led, with owner-managed operators selling room nights, tables, event packages or local tours transaction by transaction. Mid-market employers are more likely to manage repeat accounts, group bookings and supplier contracts across several venues or service lines.
Aberdeen has 663 actively trading tourism companies in this list, a local cohort skewed towards operational hospitality and visitor-economy services rather than large travel groups. Reported headcount totals 3,297, which points to a labour footprint concentrated in venues, kitchens, front-of-house teams and service operations. Only 9 firms report turnover above £5M, while 255 have been incorporated since 2022, so the market mixes a long tail of small operators with a narrower employer and revenue layer.
Flight-linked travel sales are the clearest regulatory boundary. UK package holidays involving flights sit under the CAA’s ATOL regime, which protects traveller money if an operator fails; ABTA membership may help with dispute routing and sector representation, but it is not statutory licensing. Alcohol-led hospitality sits with local licensing authorities, with premises permission and personal licence controls shaping who can sell alcohol and when. For Aberdeen operators that combine rooms, dining, events and travel sales, compliance tends to sit across several day-to-day functions rather than in a single travel-regulation silo.
Newer entrants appear concentrated around food-led venues, small accommodation formats, visitor services and booking-led intermediaries, while larger turnover operators remain comparatively scarce. That shape tends to favour cautious expansion: more trading hours, more event use, tighter supplier terms and better booking discipline before multi-site roll-out. Labour availability, energy costs and licensing compliance are likely to keep margins under scrutiny. Consolidation may occur where venue groups can spread management, procurement and marketing overhead, but Aberdeen still looks more like a fragmented service market than a platform-style scale-up cluster.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (9 of 663 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
38% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (255 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
UK package holidays involving flights fall under the CAA’s ATOL regime, with holders paying £2.50 per traveller into a trust fund for refunds, reimbursement or repatriation.
Trade bodies such as UKHospitality and ABTA shape policy representation and dispute-routing, but membership is not equivalent to statutory licensing.
ONS estimates put overseas-resident visits to the UK at 42.6 million in 2024, with visitor spend of £32.5 billion.
UK residents made an estimated 94.6 million visits abroad in 2024 and spent £78.6 billion, compared with 42.6 million inbound visits and £32.5 billion inbound spend.
UKHospitality’s sales tracker reported hospitality revenue of £144 billion in the year to June 2024, up 8.1% versus pre-pandemic levels, and more than £145 billion by Q4 2024.

How Aberdeen Tourism companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Tourism operators in Aberdeen usually earn through a blend of transactional revenue and account-based repeat spend. Accommodation providers sell room nights with seasonal rates, deposits, cancellations and add-ons; food-led venues rely on covers, private dining and events; visitor-service firms earn through ticketing, commissions, itinerary planning or margins on bundled travel. Pricing is often capacity-led rather than usage-led: empty rooms, tables and guide slots lose value once the date passes. Smaller operators may combine direct consumer bookings with walk-in trade, while larger local employers tend to separate sales, reservations, operations and finance so they can manage corporate rates, group bookings and supplier agreements.
Who they sell to
Buyers range from local residents and leisure visitors to corporate travel bookers, event organisers, public-sector administrators and travel intermediaries. Consumer decisions are often self-serve or phone-led, with price, location, availability and reviews doing much of the work. Business demand is more relationship-based: office managers, personal assistants, HR teams, procurement staff and finance approvers may negotiate rates, invoice terms or event packages. Typical sales cycles split by use case. A table booking or tour ticket can close quickly, while a recurring accommodation account, conference booking or group itinerary may involve site visits, menu choices, risk checks and written terms before spend is released.
What they buy
Most tourism firms tend to spend on systems and services that keep bookings, labour and cash under control. Relevant categories include reservation tools, channel management, customer databases, payment processing, point-of-sale software, accounting, payroll, staff rostering, stock control, marketing, review management and basic analytics. Venue-based operators also buy utilities management, maintenance, cleaning, laundry, food and drink supply, insurance, compliance training, security, telecoms and guest Wi-Fi. Travel-sales desks and tour operators may need itinerary management, supplier contracting, document storage and customer-money controls. For sellers, the practical buyer is often the owner, general manager, finance lead or operations manager, not a large central technology function.
Why and how to sell to them
Tourism buyers tend to evaluate vendors when a constraint becomes visible: occupancy gaps, margin pressure, staff shortages, rising energy bills, licence conditions, poor booking conversion or too much manual reconciliation between reservations, payments and accounts. Opening a new site, changing a general manager, refurbishing rooms, adding event capacity or expanding travel-sales activity can all create a window for review. Outbound messages usually land better when they are tied to a trading problem rather than a generic efficiency claim. Aberdeen operators are likely to care about filling quieter periods, reducing wasted labour, keeping compliance evidence tidy and protecting cash before the service date.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
