Accommodation Companies in Cardiff: 236 Active Firms (2026)
Accommodation companies in Cardiff operate hotels, guest houses and serviced lodging for business, leisure and inbound visitors.
Buyer demand tends to sit with corporate travel managers, event organisers and individual guests rather than a central enterprise procurement desk. Cardiff operators usually monetise beds first, then add food service, meetings and events, longer-stay apartment use or licensed-premises activity where the property can support it. The customer mix is mostly consumer-facing, with business travel and event demand giving the more commercial operators a corporate-sales element. Engagement scale is property-led: some businesses are owner-managed guest houses, while the larger end operates staffed hotels or serviced-lodging portfolios with more formal revenue management, maintenance and compliance functions.

Cardiff has 236 actively trading accommodation companies in this list, making the local cohort sizeable enough for segmentation but not especially deep once scale thresholds are applied. Reported headcount across the Cardiff cohort is 1,398 people. Only 9 companies sit above £5M turnover, so the market is weighted towards smaller property businesses, guest-house operators and narrower serviced-lodging models. The younger tail is visible too: 60 firms were incorporated since 2022, pointing to continuing new-company formation around independent accommodation and owner-managed operating vehicles.
Operators are not licensed through a dedicated national hotel regime, but common activities bring them into familiar rulebooks. Selling alcohol, hosting regulated entertainment or serving late-night refreshment can require Licensing Act permissions, with decisions framed around public safety, crime and disorder, public nuisance and protection of children from harm. Food service brings local-authority food-business registration where premises sell, cook, store, handle, prepare or distribute food. Sleeping accommodation also carries fire-safety duties for the responsible person, which tends to make premises condition, evacuation planning and staff training part of normal operating risk rather than a back-office formality.
Asset-heavy premises, labour scheduling and licensing constraints tend to limit overnight scaling, so growth appears more likely to come through refurbishment, tighter revenue management and selective portfolio consolidation than through purely digital expansion. Smaller owner-managed operators may remain exposed to seasonality and cost pressure, while the more commercial hotels and serviced-lodging groups are better placed to handle compliance, distribution fees and event-led demand. The cohort’s recent formation profile suggests churn is likely to continue, with new entities testing narrow accommodation formats and older operators deciding whether to professionalise or exit.

How Cardiff Accommodation companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Core income comes from selling room nights, usually priced by night and adjusted for day of week, season, event demand and booking channel. Direct bookings protect margin, while online travel agencies and travel intermediaries can fill capacity at the cost of commission. Larger Cardiff accommodation operators tend to add negotiated corporate rates, block bookings, meeting-room hire, food and drink, parking, laundry, and longer-stay serviced-lodging packages. The offer is operational rather than purely digital: premises, staffing, housekeeping, maintenance and guest handling sit behind the booking flow, so revenue growth depends on occupancy, average daily rate and ancillary spend as much as marketing reach.
Who they sell to
Customer demand usually splits between leisure travellers, business travellers, event-led stays and small groups needing short-term accommodation. Corporate sales tend to involve travel managers, office managers, finance teams, executive assistants and, for larger buyers, procurement or venue-sourcing roles. Contracting is often lighter than in enterprise software: one-off bookings may close through a booking form or call, while negotiated rates, allocations and event packages can take weeks or months and involve site visits, cancellation terms and payment controls. Most smaller operators rely on direct enquiries and intermediated booking channels; larger hotels and serviced-lodging groups are more likely to run account management and respond to RFPs.
What they buy
Most accommodation firms tend to spend on systems and services that keep rooms sellable, staffed and compliant. Common software needs include property-management systems, channel management, booking engines, payments, revenue management, customer communications, accounting, rota planning, payroll, CRM and guest feedback tools. Operational spend often covers cleaning, laundry, maintenance, security, fire-safety advice, food and drink supply, insurance, utilities, waste management and card processing. More commercial operators may also buy digital marketing, photography, search advertising, corporate-sales support and refurbishment services. The larger the property footprint, the more likely buyers are to care about integration, reporting by site and standardised processes across teams.
Why and how to sell to them
Cardiff accommodation buyers tend to evaluate vendors when margin is being squeezed by occupancy swings, labour cover, energy costs, distribution commission or maintenance backlog. Other triggers include a refurbishment, new management, a move into food service or events, a portfolio addition, a licensing change, or a push to win more direct and corporate bookings. Outbound works better when it speaks to operational leakage rather than abstract growth: fewer manual booking errors, clearer shift coverage, faster month-end reporting, lower commission exposure, documented compliance and better room utilisation. Smaller operators may need a low-friction sale; larger ones usually expect evidence that implementation will not disrupt guests or front-desk teams.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
