EV Charging Companies in the UK: 800+ Active Firms (2026)
EV charging companies in the UK install, operate and maintain charging infrastructure for electric vehicles across public, fleet and workplace sites.
Fleet electrification, property operations and local-authority transport teams are the main buying centres, with energy-sector partners often shaping grid-connection and metering choices. Deals tend to look like site-by-site infrastructure programmes rather than pure software subscriptions: surveys, electrical works, hardware selection, network operation and maintenance sit inside the same commercial conversation. Buyers range from depot-owning fleets and car-park landlords to workplace estates and housing operators, so procurement often splits between capital works, service cover and longer-running operating agreements. The more mature suppliers usually need customer support capacity as well as installation crews, because reliability and payment handling matter once chargers move into daily use.
Across the UK, 845 actively trading EV charging companies sit in this cohort, spanning installers, charge-point operators, maintenance specialists and site-development businesses. Reported employment totals 1,984 people, which keeps the footprint relatively modest for an infrastructure market and suggests a sizeable long tail of small operating companies, subcontract-led installers and project vehicles. The commercial centre of gravity appears to sit with organisations that can combine electrical delivery with network management, because fleets, property owners and local authorities usually need accountable operations after installation rather than a one-off equipment sale.
Public charging is shaped by rules on transparent pricing, payment access, reliability claims and consumer information, while workplace and fleet installations sit closer to electrical-safety, metering and property-control questions. Local-authority schemes add procurement duties and planning constraints, and grid connections can become the practical bottleneck even where site demand is clear. Market structure is therefore partly determined by who can coordinate landlords, network operators, installers and service teams. Firms that only supply equipment tend to face a different risk profile from operators that take on uptime, billing and driver support.
Commercial pressure appears likely to push the sector toward utilisation, maintenance quality and energy management rather than simple roll-out volume. Buyers tend to reward operators that can keep chargers available, integrate with estate systems and handle faults without passing every issue back to the site owner. Smaller installers may remain useful on regional projects, but scale-up scarcity should favour firms with recurring service revenue, access to electrical labour and the patience to manage grid-connection queues. Consolidation also looks plausible where operators need denser networks to improve asset use.

Key facts
About 11% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (95 of 845 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
12% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (109 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
UK EV charging firms cover public networks, fleet depots and workplace sites, with different buying routes for each setting.
Installation-led operators tend to follow construction and facilities budgets rather than recurring utilisation economics.
Charge-point operators are more exposed to utilisation, power costs and the economics of fleet and workplace charging sites.
Maintenance is a separate commercial line because installed charging estates need ongoing servicing after the initial project work.

How UK EV charging companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Revenue usually mixes project work with recurring operation. EV charging companies make money from site surveys, design, electrical installation, hardware supply, commissioning and maintenance, then add network operation, driver support, billing and payment handling where they run the service after installation. Public and semi-public sites may use transaction fees, tariff margin or revenue share with the landlord, while fleet and workplace deals are more often priced as capital works plus service cover. Some firms stay close to contracting and subcontract labour; others carry asset risk by owning chargers or taking responsibility for utilisation, uptime and customer service.
Who they sell to
Most customers are organisations with vehicles, parking bays or public-access estates rather than individual drivers. Typical buyers include fleet directors, heads of transport, estates teams, facilities managers, sustainability leads, housing operators, local-authority procurement teams and property asset managers. Finance and procurement usually become involved once grid works, lease terms or service commitments affect the budget. Smaller workplace or residential projects can be direct-sale, but public-sector and multi-site programmes tend to move through tenders, frameworks, partner channels or formal RFP processes. Sales cycles lengthen when landlords, distribution network operators and internal property teams all need to approve the same site.
What they buy
EV charging firms tend to spend on systems that link field delivery with live asset operation: CRM, quoting, project management, field-service scheduling, parts inventory, remote monitoring, billing, payments, customer support and reporting. Operators with public networks also need cyber security, identity and access controls, uptime evidence, pricing records and incident workflows. Installation-led firms buy electrical design support, health-and-safety services, certification management, fleet vans, recruitment, training and subcontractor capacity. As portfolios mature, analytics around utilisation, energy cost, fault patterns and site profitability become more useful, because margin depends on assets working often enough to cover maintenance and power costs.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying intent often appears when a firm wins a fleet, property or local-authority rollout, moves from installation into operations, hires customer-support staff, or adds responsibility for payment handling and uptime. Common pain points are grid-connection delays, labour scheduling, fault response, tariff changes, low utilisation at some sites and fragmented information between installers, landlords and service teams. Sellers tend to get further when they tie the pitch to fewer failed visits, faster quote-to-commission workflows, cleaner audit trails, lower support load or clearer reporting for site owners. Generic electrification messaging is usually weaker than a site economics or operational reliability argument.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
