TIC Companies in London: 1,000+ Active Firms (2026)
TIC providers test, inspect and certify products, systems and processes for regulated and commercial customers across London.
Buying activity tends to sit with quality, compliance, procurement, facilities, engineering and operations teams rather than a single software-style budget owner. London providers usually sell to commercial and regulated customers that need external evidence for product conformity, workplace safety, infrastructure assurance, calibration or management-system certification. Engagements are often recurring, accreditation-led and document-heavy, with value tied to technical competence, audit scope and liability exposure. The better-fit customers are mid-market and enterprise buyers, plus regulated public-facing organisations, where inspection schedules, certification cycles and supplier-assurance requirements create repeat demand rather than one-off advisory work.
London has 1,001 actively trading TIC providers, giving the capital a sizeable local base of laboratories, inspection bodies, certifiers and specialist compliance services. The reported employment footprint is 1,287 people, which points to a market with many small technical teams rather than only large national operators. That shape fits the way TIC work is bought: some customers need broad certification and inspection coverage, while others require narrow competence in a product category, site type or regulatory regime. London’s role is therefore partly operational and partly commercial, with sales, audit management and regulated-customer relationships sitting close to major buyers.
Conformity assessment gives this market its structure. Accreditation is used to establish that testing, calibration, inspection and certification bodies are competent; the government phrase “checking the checkers” captures the chain of assurance. The sole UK National Accreditation Body sits at the centre of that system, and government policy recognises its accreditation for organisations operating in the UK. Product conformity adds another layer through UKCA and CE regimes, where sector-specific rules determine when third-party assessment and marking are required. Bodies appointed for Great Britain or Northern Ireland sit within a formal appointment and listing process, usually linked to accreditation assessment.
Demand appears likely to remain tied to regulatory exposure, supply-chain assurance and the cost of failure in safety-critical or quality-sensitive settings. London providers with narrow technical competence may continue to coexist with broader inspection and certification groups, because buyers often need both recognised scope and practical sector knowledge. The cohort also looks exposed to credential pressure: accreditation status, auditor availability and defensible methods matter more than brand language. Consolidation may continue where national coverage, repeat audit schedules or laboratory utilisation favour larger operators, but specialist firms should retain space where regulation, product type or site conditions require harder-to-substitute expertise.

Key facts
About 2% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (30 of 1,001 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
22% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (222 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
UK conformity assessment covers testing, calibration, certification and inspection; GOV.UK describes third-party accreditation as “checking the checkers”.
The UK Accreditation Service is the sole UK National Accreditation Body under the Accreditation Regulations 2009, with government policy recognising UKAS accreditation for UK-operating organisations.
UKCA and CE regimes cover more than 20 product types, with sector-specific rules deciding when third-party assessment and marking are required.
Testing is generally the largest service line, while certification is commonly identified as the faster-growing service segment.
One 2025 estimate values the UK TIC market at USD 15.75 billion, with a forecast of USD 18.72 billion by 2030 at a 3.51% CAGR.

How London TIC companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Revenue usually comes from technical services rather than software licences: laboratory tests, site inspections, calibration certificates, management-system audits, product conformity assessments and follow-up surveillance. Pricing tends to follow the work unit. A provider may charge per sample, per instrument, per site visit, per audit day or through an annual certification and surveillance schedule. Larger customers may bundle repeat visits across multiple sites, while smaller buyers often commission a defined test, inspection or certificate. The deliverable is usually an evidence pack: reports, certificates, corrective-action notes, calibration results and audit trails that can be shown to customers, insurers, procurement teams or authorities.
Who they sell to
Most London TIC providers sell into mid-market and enterprise organisations with exposed safety, quality or compliance obligations: manufacturers, construction and property operators, infrastructure owners, importers, facilities managers and regulated service providers. The buying group is often split, with quality, compliance, engineering, operations, facilities and procurement all able to influence scope. Smaller jobs can move through direct enquiry and technical scoping within weeks. Multi-site inspection frameworks, certification programmes and public-sector work tend to involve approved-supplier lists, tenders or formal procurement, with longer sales cycles and more scrutiny of accreditation scope, method statements, insurance and auditor availability.
What they buy
Most TIC firms tend to spend on systems that reduce the cost of evidence production. Relevant categories include audit and inspection workflow, document control, quality management, laboratory information management, field-service scheduling, CRM, billing, proposal management, cyber security, cloud hosting, analytics and finance software. Services spend often sits around accreditation support, legal advice, insurance, accounting, technical marketing, bid writing and recruitment for auditors, inspectors, engineers and laboratory staff. Physical spend can include measuring equipment, laboratory consumables, vehicles, personal protective equipment and facilities. The better sales angle is usually operational traceability or utilisation, not generic productivity language.
Why and how to sell to them
TIC buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when accreditation renewals, scope extensions, new regulatory duties, customer audits or tender deadlines expose gaps in process. Hiring for assessors, inspectors or laboratory roles can also signal pressure on utilisation and report turnaround. Sellers should expect evidence-led buying: claims need to map to audit trails, method control, scheduling reliability, liability reduction or margin protection. Messages that reference certification cycles, repeat site visits, corrective-action workflows and defensible reporting usually land better than broad digital-transformation language. Many firms are small technical teams, so a low-disruption implementation and clear handover into existing quality procedures matter.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
