Tourism Companies in Bristol: 2,000+ Active Firms (2026)
Tourism companies in Bristol operate accommodation, food service, travel sales and visitor experiences across the city region.
Buying centres split between venue operations, travel distribution and corporate hospitality rather than a single tourism budget. Accommodation and food-service operators sell to local residents and domestic visitors day by day, while attractions and event venues trade around group bookings, seasonal programmes and private hire. Travel agents and package organisers face consumers, inbound tourists and corporate travel buyers. Engagements tend to be lower-ticket and high-frequency in hospitality, but larger where accommodation blocks, hosted events or packaged itineraries are sold under contract.

Bristol’s tourism company base contains 2,094 actively trading firms, with reported employment of 3,722 people. The shape is still weighted towards small venue, food-service and travel-sales operators: 22 companies have turnover above £5M, leaving a long tail below that scale. A further 609 firms were incorporated since 2022, so newer entrants make up a visible part of the local market. That combination fits a city-region tourism economy where demand is split between residents, domestic trips, inbound visits and corporate event spending.
Flight-inclusive travel sales are not just another retail activity: the Civil Aviation Authority’s ATOL regime protects customer money when an operator ceases trading, and package holidays sold in the UK must be ATOL protected. Venue operators sit in a different regulatory channel. Alcohol sales need authorisation from a local licensing authority, usually the council, with permanent sales normally tied to a premises licence and a personal licence holder. UKHospitality and ABTA matter for policy and dispute-routing, but membership does not replace statutory permission.
Demand looks more fragmented than the visitor-economy shorthand suggests, with neighbourhood hospitality, accommodation, attractions and travel retail exposed to different booking cycles. Newer operators appear to be entering around food-led venues, events and specialist visitor services, while the scarcity of larger turnover businesses points to a market where many firms remain local rather than platform-like. Regulatory pressure tends to fall unevenly: package sellers carry financial-protection obligations, while alcohol-led venues manage council licensing conditions. Consolidation may remain selective, especially around multi-site hospitality groups and travel sellers with repeat customer relationships.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (22 of 2,094 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
29% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (609 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Flight-inclusive package holidays sold in the UK must be ATOL protected under the CAA regime, with holders paying £2.50 per traveller into a trust fund.
Hospitality venues in England and Wales that sell alcohol usually need local council authorisation under the Licensing Act 2003, and permanent sales normally require a premises licence.
Hospitality employs 3.6 million people in the UK and directly contributes £96 billion annually to the economy.
ONS estimates overseas residents made 42.6 million visits to the UK in 2024 and spent £32.5 billion.
UK residents made 94.6 million visits abroad in 2024 and spent £78.6 billion, so outbound travel sits above inbound tourism by trip count and spend.

How Bristol tourism companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Tourism operators in Bristol usually make money through a mix of consumer spend and pre-booked capacity. Hotels and serviced accommodation sell room nights, often with variable pricing by day, season and event demand. Restaurants, bars and cafés earn through table covers, walk-in trade, deposits and private dining. Attractions and venues rely on admissions, memberships, education visits, group bookings, sponsorship and venue hire. Travel sellers earn commission, mark-up or service fees on packages and itinerary work. Corporate hospitality sits closer to a contracted services model, with per-head pricing, minimum spends, catering bundles and cancellation terms doing much of the commercial work.
Who they sell to
Most sell to several buyer types at once, which makes qualification less tidy than in a pure B2B category. Leisure bookings usually come from consumers, families, visitor groups and domestic tourists through direct channels, search, referrals and travel marketplaces. Corporate spend tends to sit with office managers, executive assistants, HR teams, marketing teams and procurement, especially for away days, client entertainment, accommodation blocks and managed travel. Public-sector, education and association buyers are more likely to use formal quotes, framework-style processes or tendering. Sales cycles range from same-day consumer purchase to longer event and travel-procurement conversations where availability, cancellation risk and duty of care matter.
What they buy
Tourism firms tend to spend on systems that keep capacity visible, payments moving and staff scheduled. Common software categories include booking engines, ticketing, property-management systems, channel management, revenue management, CRM, email marketing, review monitoring, accounting, payroll and workforce rota tools. Venues also buy EPOS, payment hardware, Wi-Fi, CCTV, access control, cleaning, linen, waste, maintenance, insurance and food or drink supply. Travel sellers may need client documentation, itinerary management, supplier reconciliation and financial-protection support. Services spend often runs through licensing advice, accountancy, local search marketing, photography, recruitment, temporary staffing and training for front-of-house or operational roles.
Why and how to sell to them
Bristol tourism buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when bookings become harder to manage manually, when a venue adds private hire, when a travel seller moves into packaged activity, or when management starts tracking margin by channel rather than by takings alone. Other triggers include a new general manager, a finance hire, a refurbishment, a licensing change, a shift into corporate events or complaints around deposits, cancellations and staffing gaps. Outbound angles usually work better when tied to occupancy, table yield, no-shows, staff cover, compliance evidence or reconciliation time. Generic visitor-economy messaging is less useful than showing how the offer fits one operating model.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
