Hospitality Companies in London: 33,000+ Active Firms (2026)
Hospitality companies in London operate accommodation, food service, licensed venues and travel services across the capital.
Buying centres tend to split between venue operations, accommodation management, corporate events, inbound visitor services and travel sales, rather than a single software-like purchasing motion. Buyers are usually consumers, office managers, tour organisers, travel bookers or event teams; the commercial work sits in occupancy, covers, ticketing, package sales and reservation yield. Engagements range from walk-in or short-stay transactions to retained corporate hospitality, group bookings and packaged itineraries. Operational scale is usually visible through borough coverage, staffed sites, licence exposure, reservation volume and repeatable supplier relationships, with a smaller group operating at upper-mid-market turnover rather than purely local trade.
London has 33,360 actively trading hospitality companies, spanning accommodation, food service, licensed leisure and travel-intermediary models. The reported headcount total is 5,238 staff, so the visible workforce footprint is modest compared with the number of operating businesses. The company mix points to a long tail of local operators, alongside multi-site and higher-turnover businesses that carry more complex staffing, booking and compliance requirements. For researchers, the useful distinction is between venue-led firms exposed to local licensing and travel-led firms where customer-money protection can shape the commercial model.
Flight-inclusive package travel sold in the UK sits under the CAA’s ATOL regime, which protects customer money if a travel operator ceases trading. London travel sellers therefore face a different market structure from restaurants, hotels and bars, where authorisation is usually local: alcohol-led venues in England and Wales need approval from the relevant licensing authority, normally the council, under the Home Office-overseen Licensing Act framework. Permanent sales require premises-level permission with personal-licence oversight. UKHospitality and ABTA matter as policy voices and dispute-routing channels, but membership does not replace statutory authorisation. The split creates distinct compliance logics: customer-money protection for travel and place-based licensing for venues.
London’s hospitality cohort appears weighted towards smaller operators, with a thinner layer of businesses that have the revenue, systems and management depth to run across locations or travel verticals. Margin pressure tends to favour reservation discipline, labour scheduling, supplier control and repeat corporate or visitor demand over brand expansion for its own sake. Travel-facing firms have been pulled towards clearer customer-money protection and documentation, while venue operators remain exposed to licensing, staffing and rent constraints. Consolidation is likely to be selective: acquisition interest should sit around operators with repeatable bookings, defensible locations and clean compliance records, rather than the long tail of lifestyle businesses.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (384 of 33,360 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
35% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (11,796 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
UKHospitality states that hospitality is the UK’s third-largest employer, with 3.6 million people working in the sector and £96 billion of direct annual contribution.
ONS estimated 42.6 million overseas-resident visits to the UK in 2024, with estimated spend of £32.5 billion.
UK travel sales involving flights are shaped by the CAA’s ATOL regime, and ATOL holders pay £2.50 per traveller into a trust fund used for refunds, reimbursement or repatriation.
Hospitality venues in England and Wales that sell or supply alcohol usually need local licensing authorisation under the Licensing Act 2003.
UK residents made an estimated 94.6 million visits abroad in 2024 and spent £78.6 billion, compared with 42.6 million inbound visits and £32.5 billion inbound spend.

How London hospitality companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Hospitality operators in London usually earn through a mix of room nights, covers, drinks spend, venue hire, ticketed experiences, booking fees, travel-package margin and service charges. Pricing is often per transaction, per guest, per night or per event, with deposits and cancellation terms used to manage capacity risk. Accommodation and travel sellers tend to think in yield, occupancy and refund exposure; restaurants, bars and visitor venues tend to think in table turns, labour cost and spend per head. The service is physical and staff-heavy, but the commercial layer is increasingly reservation-led, with supplier contracts, booking channels and payment flows shaping margin.
Who they sell to
Most London hospitality firms sell to a mixed base rather than one tidy buyer persona. Consumer bookings are usually direct, marketplace-led or referral-led, while corporate hospitality, accommodation blocks and events go through office managers, executive assistants, procurement teams, travel bookers and venue-finding agencies. Travel and visitor-service operators may also sell through tour organisers, schools, associations and inbound agencies. Small transactions can close instantly, but group bookings and corporate retainers tend to involve availability checks, site visits, menu or itinerary negotiation and finance sign-off. Larger operators are more likely to use formal procurement, approved-supplier lists and annual rate discussions.
What they buy
Most hospitality firms tend to spend on systems and services that protect occupancy, conversion, labour control and customer experience. Common software categories include reservations, property management, table management, ticketing, workforce scheduling, payroll, accounting, payments, stock control, procurement, customer messaging, reviews, reporting and security. Travel-facing operators also need booking administration, itinerary management, refund handling and documentation workflows. Services spend often sits in recruitment, temporary staffing, licensing advice, insurance, accountancy, local marketing, photography, search, social campaigns, facilities management, cleaning, laundry, maintenance and food or drink supply. Multi-site operators usually have more appetite for reporting, procurement controls and finance integration than single-venue businesses.
Why and how to sell to them
Hospitality buyers tend to evaluate vendors when capacity, staffing or compliance starts to strain manual processes. Useful triggers include a new site, a move into corporate bookings, higher group-travel volume, a licensing change, a finance hire, a refurbishment, new booking channels or a step-up in repeat visitor demand. Pitches usually land better when they tie directly to fewer empty slots, lower no-shows, cleaner rota planning, faster reconciliation, licence evidence or clearer refund handling. Generic efficiency claims are easy to ignore in this market; the more credible angle is usually a specific operational leak that affects cash, compliance or guest availability.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
