Film & TV Companies in London: 11,000+ Active Firms (2026)
Film and TV companies in London develop, finance and produce screen content for broadcasters, streamers and cinema in the UK’s main production hub.
Buying centres cluster around commissioning desks, distributor finance and international co-production partners, rather than a repeat-purchase sales funnel. Customer types range from public-service broadcasters and streaming commissioners to cinema distributors and overseas production partners; engagements are usually slate, series or film-specific. The operating work sits around development, rights administration, production management, post-production coordination and UK spend evidence. Commercial scale can vary widely: a compact permanent team may carry development and finance, while delivery expands through crews, locations, studios and post-production suppliers for each production.
London has 11,736 actively trading Film & TV companies, giving the capital a deep base of production vehicles, rights holders and project-led operating companies. Only 140 have turnover above £5M, while 3,078 were incorporated since 2022, so the cohort is weighted towards newer or smaller entities alongside a thinner revenue-scaled layer. Permanent employment is more concentrated than project labour: firms that disclose headcount account for 1,039 employees, with freelance crews and supplier networks sitting outside that core company footprint.
Fiscal support, rather than licensing, shapes much of the formal operating context. Access to Audio-Visual Expenditure Credit depends on qualifying production activity, British certification through a cultural test or official co-production treaty route, and evidence that core costs relate to UK activity. Commissioning is also structured by Terms of Trade for independent producers selling to UK public-service broadcasters, with Ofcom monitoring regional production obligations. For London producers, the practical effect is administrative as much as creative: rights ownership, audit trails, spend allocation and delivery paperwork tend to sit close to finance and production management.
The near-term shape appears less about new licensing barriers and more about margin management. Commissioners tend to shift risk onto producers through development exposure, delivery requirements and rights negotiation, while fiscal-support compliance keeps finance and production administration close to the centre of the business. The cohort’s weight toward small and recent companies suggests churn around project-specific vehicles and early slates, with fewer firms reaching repeatable revenue scale. Consolidation may be selective: buyers are more likely to value rights libraries, commissioner relationships and delivery capacity than generic production-company volume.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (140 of 11,736 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
26% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (3,078 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
GOV.UK guidance says Audio-Visual Expenditure Credit applies to expenditure incurred from 1 January 2024, with credit rates of 34% for most films and TV programmes, 39% for children’s TV and animation, and 53% for qualifying independent films.
Productions using the credit must be certified as British by the BFI through the cultural test or an official co-production treaty route, and at least 10% of core costs must relate to UK activities.
UK film and high-end TV production spend reached £5.6 billion in 2024, up 31% on 2023; high-end TV accounted for £3.4 billion and feature film production for £2.1 billion.
Inward investment and co-production films and high-end TV delivered £4.8 billion in 2024, or 86% of combined UK production spend.
Public service broadcaster commissioning sits within the Terms of Trade, the 25% independent production quota and Ofcom regional production quotas.

How London Film & TV companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Revenue usually arrives through a mixture of commissioning fees, production-service income, producer fees, distribution advances, co-production contributions and later rights exploitation. A London Film & TV company may be selling a finished feature, a series concept, production capacity, or a share in intellectual property rather than a repeatable software licence. Pricing follows the production budget: some work is cost-plus with a margin, some is fee-for-service, and some depends on recoupment waterfalls, licence windows or secondary sales. Cash flow can therefore be lumpy, with material spend landing before broadcaster payments, distributor receipts or fiscal-support claims are fully realised.
Who they sell to
Most buyers sit in editorial, commissioning, acquisitions, production finance, business affairs or distribution rather than conventional procurement. Typical customers include public-service broadcasters, subscription-funded streaming commissioners, cinema distributors, advertising-funded content buyers, overseas co-production partners and rights buyers. Sales cycles are relationship-led and often run from early development conversations through budget approval, legal negotiation and delivery milestones; months of informal discussion may precede a formal greenlight. Contracting tends to be direct, though public-service work and some international finance routes can involve formal tender packs, eligibility checks and legal review. The economic buyer is often split between a creative sponsor and a finance or business-affairs approver.
What they buy
Most Film & TV firms tend to spend on tools and services that keep project finance, production administration and delivery evidence under control. Relevant categories include production accounting, budgeting and scheduling, payroll and freelance onboarding, rights and royalties administration, contract management, secure file transfer, asset storage, review-and-approval workflows, insurance, legal services, tax and certification advice, recruitment, travel support and post-production coordination. Larger production groups may also need CRM, marketing analytics, cyber security, device management and cloud infrastructure, but the case usually has to attach to a production slate, rights library or finance process rather than a generic corporate systems plan.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying intent tends to appear around greenlights, co-production finance, new distribution deals, senior production hires, new finance leadership, office expansion, or a move into higher-budget television and film work. Common pressures are cash-flow timing, audit trails for UK spend, rights clearance, freelancer onboarding, delivery paperwork, version control and overruns in post-production. Outbound messages usually land better when they reference the production calendar and the buyer’s role: finance teams care about cost control and evidence; production teams care about crew, schedule and delivery risk; business-affairs teams care about rights, contracts and approval trails. A narrow, project-linked problem is easier to buy than a general efficiency claim.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
