FMCG Companies in London: 14,000+ Active Firms (2026)
FMCG companies in London make, brand, distribute and wholesale fast-moving consumer products for retail, hospitality and online channels.
Commercial buying centres sit around category management, retail account ownership, supply-chain control and consumer-product compliance. London operators tend to sell through business-to-business routes: grocery and convenience buyers, hospitality groups, foodservice distributors, online retail, wholesalers and fulfilment networks. Engagements are usually repeat supply arrangements rather than campaign-led consumer sales, with pricing shaped by volume, availability, margin and service levels. The relevant population is not just brand owners; importers, contract-led producers and distributors matter where they hold labelling, traceability, recall and packaging responsibilities for goods moving through UK channels.
London has 14,379 actively trading FMCG companies in this cohort, a sizeable base for a sector that covers food, drink, household and personal-care categories alongside import, distribution and wholesale activity. Reported employment across the cohort is 3,300 people, which should be read as a visible staffing footprint rather than a full labour-market estimate. The mix points to a market with many small trading entities, but also a layer of operators managing retailer, hospitality and online-channel supply from London and the wider South East.
Compliance depends on the product category rather than the corporate label. For food and drink, the Food Standards Agency requires mandatory information on prepacked food to be accurate and not misleading; the retained Food Information to Consumers Regulation applies in Great Britain, while EU food law still shapes Northern Ireland obligations. Non-food consumer goods sit under the Office for Product Safety and Standards and local trading standards, with duties covering safety, traceability, risk notification and recalls. Packaging adds a further administrative layer, as GOV.UK guidance requires some importers and suppliers to report packaging and pay extended producer responsibility fees when thresholds are met.
Channel complexity appears likely to keep the sector fragmented. Brand owners need retailer access and compliance capacity, while distributors and wholesalers tend to compete on availability, credit terms and service reliability. Younger businesses may find it harder to move beyond niche listings without working capital for stock, packaging changes and promotional support. At the larger end, consolidation has been a recurring route to broader category coverage and logistics density. Regulatory pressure on labelling, traceability and packaging also favours operators that can keep product information, recall processes and supplier documentation in order.

Key facts
About 2% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (288 of 14,379 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
30% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (4,328 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Prepacked food in Great Britain must carry mandatory labelling that is accurate and not misleading under retained Food Information to Consumers Regulation 1169/2011.
Non-food consumer goods in Great Britain sit under the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, with duties covering safety, traceability, risk notification and recalls.
Packaging duties can apply to UK organisations importing or supplying packaging where turnover and packaging-tonnage thresholds are met.
UK food and drink manufacturing contributes £35bn to the UK economy and accounts for 18.8% of total UK manufacturing turnover.
Retail sales volumes rose by 0.7% in 2024 after declines in 2023 and 2022, while food store volumes fell in 2024 and remained below recent levels.

How London FMCG companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
London FMCG firms typically earn revenue from repeat supply of physical packaged goods, with margin made at case, pallet or shipment level rather than from one-off projects. Brand owners sell listed products at wholesale prices, often with promotional allowances, rebates and retailer-service deductions built into the economics. Importers and distributors tend to work on buy-sell margin, agency commission or exclusivity agreements, while contract-led producers may price by production run, ingredient input, packaging format and service level. The commercial product is rarely just the item on shelf; availability, compliant labelling, shelf-life management, delivery performance and product documentation all form part of the proposition.
Who they sell to
Most sell to professional buyers rather than consumers directly. Common counterparties include grocery and convenience category teams, foodservice procurement managers, hospitality groups, online retail buyers, wholesalers and fulfilment operators. The main stakeholders are usually category managers, commercial directors, heads of procurement, supply-chain directors, technical or compliance managers and finance leads watching margin and working capital. Smaller listings may move through direct sales conversations or distributor introductions, while national retail, foodservice and public-sector supply tends to involve tenders, range reviews, supplier portals and longer approval cycles. Sales cycles are usually measured in weeks for local channels and months for larger accounts.
What they buy
FMCG firms tend to spend on systems and services that keep products moving, margins visible and compliance evidence retrievable. Relevant categories include inventory planning, warehouse management, transport management, demand forecasting, product information management, labelling workflow, quality management, supplier onboarding, traceability and recall tools. Commercial teams often need CRM, trade-promotion planning, pricing analytics, electronic ordering and customer-service systems, while finance teams look at credit control, invoice matching and cash-flow forecasting. External services commonly include regulatory advice, packaging compliance support, food-safety or product-safety consultancy, recruitment for commercial and supply-chain roles, outsourced logistics, warehousing, merchandising and retail-account support.
Why and how to sell to them
FMCG buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when operational friction starts to affect listings, service levels or cash. Triggers include a new retailer win, a move into owned stock, a warehouse change, a category extension, senior commercial hiring, funding, or a compliance change affecting labels, packaging or traceability. Margin pressure is a useful entry point, but vague savings claims rarely travel far; stronger outbound tends to connect to deductions, stock-outs, excess inventory, slow product onboarding, audit preparation or recall readiness. For London firms selling through several channels, messages that show how a vendor reduces manual reconciliation between sales, stock, product records and compliance evidence are usually easier to place.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
