Agri-Supply Companies in Plymouth: 31 Active Firms (2026)

Agri-supply companies in Plymouth provide farm inputs, equipment and support services across the city and surrounding rural economy.

Buying centres tend to sit with owner-managers, farm managers, estate operations and rural contractors rather than central procurement teams. Sales are practical and relationship-led: trade-counter replenishment, field visits, delivery routes, parts identification and repair scheduling matter as much as catalogue breadth. Typical engagements appear local and recurrent, built around inputs, machinery components, maintenance and seasonal purchasing rather than enterprise contracts. The customer base is mainly commercial agriculture and adjacent rural operators, with small and lower-mid-market suppliers acting as stockholders, problem-solvers and service coordinators for nearby farms.

Plymouth has 31 actively trading agri-supply firms, so the market reads as a compact local services base rather than a broad regional hub. Reported employment totals 83 people, which fits a sector where many businesses rely on owner-management, branch staff, mobile technicians and delivery capacity rather than large office teams. The Plymouth setting also implies a catchment beyond the city boundary: demand is likely to come from nearby farms, estates and contractors that need accessible stock, repairs and repeat supply rather than distant account management.

Operating constraints are activity-specific: stockholding, delivery, installation, repairs and technical advice each carry different duties around product handling, documentation, vehicle use and customer safety. Plymouth suppliers therefore compete on availability and reliability, but also on the less visible work of maintaining procurement relationships and service capability. The market structure appears local and trust-based, with repeat agricultural demand smoothing some seasonality while machinery breakdowns and input cycles create peaks. For researchers, the important distinction is between general rural merchants and firms with practical maintenance or field-service capability.

Plymouth’s agri-supply base appears likely to change through incremental consolidation rather than new platform creation. Scale-up scarcity matters: many operators look tied to local stockholding, service knowledge and owner-managed customer relationships, which can limit expansion but preserve account continuity. Early-commercial entrants are present, though not dominant, and their chances tend to depend on access to dependable suppliers, field-service labour and working capital for inventory. Buyers may keep favouring nearby firms that can solve breakdowns and shortages quickly, especially where rural customers value continuity over remote procurement.

Key facts

About 9% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (3 of 31 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.

12% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (4 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.

Plymouth suppliers serve both urban commercial buyers and the surrounding rural economy.

The category covers farm inputs, machinery, equipment and support services rather than primary farming.

Agri-supply firms sit between manufacturers, distributors and farms, linking local operators with upstream supply chains.

The local supplier base appears oriented towards owner-managed operators and small specialist teams.

How Plymouth Agri-Supply companies work and how to sell to them

What they do

Agri-supply firms usually make money from margin on physical stock, repeat trade-account purchasing and chargeable support around delivery, fitting, servicing and repairs. The model is closer to merchanting and field service than software or advisory work: the commercial asset is access to the right input, part or equipment at short notice, with enough technical judgement to stop customers buying the wrong item. Pricing tends to be line-item based, with seasonal order patterns, occasional machinery or equipment purchases, and smaller replenishment visits through the counter or by phone. Credit terms, supplier rebates and warranty handling can matter as much as headline price.

Who they sell to

Most customers are working farms, estates, rural contractors and adjacent land-based operators around Plymouth rather than national enterprise buyers. The practical buyer is often the owner, farm manager, estate manager, workshop lead or contractor principal, with finance involved when trade credit, larger equipment purchases or service plans are in play. Sales cycles are usually short for replenishment and breakdown demand, but planned seasonal inputs, machinery upgrades and preferred-supplier arrangements take longer because availability, advice, delivery reliability and payment terms all need testing. Procurement is typically direct, relationship-led and local, with formal tendering more likely for larger estates or public-sector-adjacent land management work.

What they buy

Most agri-supply firms tend to spend on systems and services that protect margin, stock accuracy and service response. Relevant categories include inventory management, trade-counter sales tools, accounting, credit control, card payments, supplier purchasing, route planning, workshop scheduling, CRM and simple e-commerce for repeat orders. They may also buy insurance, health and safety support, vehicle maintenance, recruitment, payroll, bookkeeping, local marketing and outsourced IT. Sellers should assume limited time for abstract software demonstrations: practical use cases around reducing stockouts, finding parts faster, chasing overdue accounts, scheduling technicians and improving delivery planning are usually easier to test against day-to-day operations.

Why and how to sell to them

Agri-supply buyers tend to evaluate vendors when seasonal pressure exposes a process problem: stock is unavailable, vans are underused, repair jobs are missed, supplier costs move, or trade-credit exposure becomes uncomfortable. Other triggers include taking on a new product line, adding field-service labour, changing premises, winning a larger estate account, or appointing a new finance or operations lead. Outbound works best when it speaks to cash tied up in inventory, missed sales from unavailable parts, slow invoicing and the cost of repeat manual administration. A short, operational proof point will usually land better than a broad efficiency claim.

How this list is built

Methodology

Data sources

This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.

Classification

Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.

Freshness

The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.

Frequently asked questions

How many agri-supply companies are there in Plymouth?
Around 31 actively-trading agri-supply companies are registered in Plymouth. Of those, 3 report turnover above £5M in their most recent filed accounts. This Plymouth list covers companies across the wider Plymouth travel-to-work area, including surrounding towns — not just the Plymouth local-authority boundary.
What counts as a agri-supply company in this list?
A company is included when its public website and filed activity descriptions indicate it sells agri-supply products or services as its primary business — not just because of the SIC code it picked at incorporation. Each company is tagged via semantic analysis of its website content; SIC codes are used as supporting signal, not the sole gate.
Which are the largest agri-supply companies in Plymouth?
The list is ranked by a sales-readiness score — built from trading signals, financial health and growth rather than raw turnover — so the most actionable agri-supply companies in Plymouth appear at the top of the table. Larger firms often still rank highly, because that score rewards genuine trading scale, but the order reflects sales-readiness, not turnover alone. About 3 of the 31 actively-trading firms report turnover above £5M in their most recent accounts; subsidiaries that file consolidated worldwide accounts are excluded so the figures stay comparable across UK filers.
What do agri-supply companies in Plymouth actually do?
How does Plymouth agri-supply compare internationally?
Cross-border comparisons of agri-supply populations are tricky because every country defines the sector slightly differently and reports financials on different cadences. We focus this list on firms that file UK statutory accounts so the figures are comparable; international peer breakdowns aren't bundled here.
How is this list built and how fresh is the data?
The list is rebuilt from Companies House dump data, XBRL filings, and a website analysis pass over each company's public site. Companies with consolidated group accounts (worldwide rather than UK-only revenue) are excluded so the figures stay UK-specific. The page's last-updated date is shown at the top.
How big are the typical agri-supply companies in Plymouth?
Company sizes in this list vary widely. The median actively-trading agri-supply firm employs around 2 people, and median UK turnover across the list is roughly £72k in the most recent filed accounts.
Are these mostly new or established agri-supply companies?
4 of the 31 actively-trading agri-supply companies in this list were incorporated since 2022; the remainder were incorporated before then, so the Plymouth list mixes recent entrants with longer-established firms.
What SIC codes does this use?
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, we build a semantic understanding of what each company actually does by scraping its website and analysing it with AI. This means a company is included based on what it sells, not what SIC code it picked at incorporation. SIC codes are used as a signal but not the primary classification.
What buying signals should I look for?
The strongest signals for B2B outbound are recent leadership changes (new CFO/CRO), rapid headcount growth, revenue-band changes, and web-stack changes. Firmbase tracks all of these automatically.
