Beauty Tech Companies in the UK: 80+ Active Firms (2026)
Beauty tech companies develop technology-enabled cosmetics, personal care products and beauty services for the UK market.
Buying centres tend to sit in product, ecommerce, retail operations and salon operations, rather than pure IT. Consumer-facing operators sell through online channels, marketplaces and retail partnerships; trade-facing vendors serve salons, distributors and personal-care teams with workflow, booking, education or replenishment tools. Engagements usually look like controlled product launches, formulation support, fulfilment integrations, loyalty software or analytics projects tied to repeat purchase. Buyers value evidence that product claims, customer acquisition and operational processes can travel beyond a single channel.

The UK cohort is small, with 89 active trading companies and only 6 above £5M turnover. A further 16 have been incorporated since 2022, so the population mixes early-commercial entrants with a shorter tail of larger operators. Reported headcount across the cohort totals 1,007 employees, giving the group a visible employment footprint but not a labour-intensive one. That profile fits a category where brand, commerce and product compliance often matter as much as headcount scale.
Product-led operators face a different compliance path from pure booking, commerce or salon software firms. Where a business places cosmetic products on the GB market, GOV.UK guidance requires a UK-established Responsible Person to carry the legal obligations. That role covers OPSS notification before sale, an English Product Information File, safety assessment by a qualified assessor, labelling duties and good manufacturing practice. CTPA guidance matters in practice because category boundaries can be awkward: connected devices, refill models, personalised formulation and influencer-led commerce may sit close to cosmetics law, consumer protection and advertising controls.
The cohort appears split between product-led and software-led operating models. Product-led firms need formulation know-how, claims evidence, repeatable fulfilment and retail access; software-led firms depend more on salon adoption, ecommerce integration and customer retention. Scale-up scarcity suggests many remain founder-led or early-commercial, with distribution likely to matter more than novel features. Consolidation tends to favour categories where compliance, manufacturing relationships and consumer acquisition can be shared across brands, while trade-facing tools may cluster around booking, payments, training and replenishment.

Key facts
About 6% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (6 of 89 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
17% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (16 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
GB toiletries and beauty product sales reached £10.3 billion in 2024, up 8.4% year on year.
The wider UK personal care industry contributed £30.4 billion to GDP in 2024, with consumer spending of £32.4 billion across goods and services.
Cosmetic products placed on the GB market need a UK-established Responsible Person and OPSS notification before sale.
GOV.UK guidance also requires an English Product Information File, a qualified safety assessment, labelling checks and good manufacturing practice.
The European cosmetics market was worth EUR €96 billion at retail sales price in 2023, with the UK behind Germany, France and Italy among national markets.

How UK Beauty Tech companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Revenue usually comes from a mix of product margin, recurring software fees, implementation work and channel commissions. Product-led beauty tech firms earn through direct ecommerce, wholesale orders, retail listings, replenishment and occasional formulation or personalisation services. Software-led firms usually price by subscription, seat, location, booking volume or transaction share, with onboarding charged separately where salon workflows or commerce integrations need configuration. Engagements are often pilot-led: a controlled launch, a limited salon estate, a fulfilment integration or a claims-testing project before wider roll-out. The commercial case tends to rest on repeat purchase, basket size, retention and the ability to keep product claims, stock and customer experience consistent across channels.
Who they sell to
Consumer-facing operators sell to individual buyers but still have B2B buying centres around retail category teams, marketplace teams, fulfilment partners and agencies. Trade-facing vendors usually sell to salons, clinics, distributors, training teams and personal-care brands, with owners, operations directors, ecommerce leads and finance heads involved in approval. Smaller salons and founder-led brands may buy through self-serve or founder-to-founder sales, while larger retailers, distributors and salon groups tend to use direct sales, commercial trials and procurement review. Sales cycles are usually shorter where the product is a discrete tool or service, and longer where claims evidence, retail ranging, payments, replenishment or staff adoption have to be tested.
What they buy
Most beauty tech firms tend to spend on commerce infrastructure, payments, subscriptions, customer support, CRM, marketing attribution, retention tools and analytics tied to repeat purchase. Product-led teams also buy formulation support, safety assessment services, packaging, product information management, quality assurance, fulfilment, inventory planning and retail integration services. Salon-facing software businesses need booking, workforce management, payments, training content, customer messaging and support operations that can handle many small accounts. As they mature, finance systems, HR, recruitment, cyber security, cloud hosting, data warehousing and legal support become more relevant, especially where the business handles customer profiles, before-and-after imagery, loyalty schemes or product recommendations.
Why and how to sell to them
Beauty tech buyers tend to evaluate vendors when a channel change exposes a process gap: a move from direct ecommerce into retail, a salon estate roll-out, a new product category, a compliance review or a fulfilment bottleneck. Other useful triggers include hiring in ecommerce or operations, adding finance leadership, preparing for overseas demand, or shifting from manual founder-led workflows to repeatable teams. Outbound angles work better when they are tied to margin leakage, stock accuracy, claims control, customer retention, appointment utilisation or time spent reconciling systems. Generic productivity language usually lands less well than evidence that a vendor understands cosmetics compliance, retail trading calendars, salon adoption and repeat-purchase economics.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
