Education Companies in London: 20,000+ Active Firms (2026)
Education companies in London deliver teaching, assessment, tutoring and training services for learners, employers and public-sector buyers across the capital.
Buying centres split between institutional education budgets, employer learning and family-paid support, with assessment and certification work forming a further layer. School, college and university sales tend to involve formal procurement, quality assurance and service continuity requirements; tutoring and specialist learning support can be more relationship-led. Employer-funded training usually carries clearer outcome measures, especially where workforce development or certification support is the purchase trigger. Engagements range from specialist provision delivered by small teams to managed learning operations across multiple London sites.
London has 20,075 actively trading education companies in this list, giving the capital a large and varied provider base across teaching, tutoring, assessment, training and learning support. The reported employment footprint is 7,128 people, concentrated among firms that disclose headcount rather than evenly distributed across the whole cohort. That pattern fits a market with many specialist operators, alongside a smaller layer of multi-site providers serving institutions, employers and public-sector education buyers.
Education provision in London sits across several operating models rather than a uniform rulebook. Providers selling into schools, colleges, universities and public-sector buyers tend to face formal procurement, safeguarding expectations, quality-assurance checks and evidence requirements around learner outcomes. Family-paid tutoring and specialist support are more fragmented, but reputation, referral routes and staff vetting still matter. Employer training and certification support bring a different set of commercial pressures, with buyers looking for delivery reliability, auditable completion and relevance to workforce needs.
Demand appears likely to remain split between institution-funded provision, family-paid support and employer learning, rather than converging on a single model. Many operators look specialist and local, which can keep sales relationships close but limits the scale of delivery infrastructure. The scarcer scale-up layer may continue to form around managed services, assessment administration, certification support and technology-enabled delivery, where repeatable processes matter. Consolidation tends to be more plausible where providers can share back-office functions and compliance work without losing subject or learner-group expertise.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (136 of 20,075 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
31% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (6,300 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
London education suppliers serve learners, employers and public-sector buyers, so sales cycles range from consumer-led tuition to formal institutional procurement.
Public-sector education and training work tends to bring procurement, safeguarding and reporting requirements for providers serving schools, colleges and government-funded programmes.
Assessment, content and specialist training models can sell repeatable services, while teaching and tutoring providers usually remain more delivery-led.

How London education companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
London education companies earn revenue through a mix of direct teaching fees, institutional service contracts, licence or platform subscriptions, assessment administration, certification support and training retainers. Family-paid tutoring and learning support are often priced by session, package or term, while school and college work tends to sit in annual contracts, framework call-offs or project budgets. Employer learning can be sold per learner, per cohort or as a managed programme. Delivery ranges from face-to-face provision and blended learning to back-office assessment operations, curriculum services and specialist staff supply, so gross margin depends heavily on tutor utilisation, venue costs and repeatable content.
Who they sell to
Buyers usually split by funding route. Institutional sales reach heads of department, curriculum leads, bursars, procurement teams and senior leadership teams, with safeguarding and quality checks built into selection. Universities and colleges may add faculty managers, student support teams and registry functions. Employer-funded training is more often owned by HR, learning and development, operations or compliance leads, sometimes with finance approval where the programme carries certification or regulated-workforce implications. Family-paid services are shorter-cycle and trust-led, while public-sector and larger institutional deals tend to move through frameworks, preferred-supplier lists, tenders or annual budget windows.
What they buy
Most education firms tend to spend on tools and services that keep delivery scheduled, evidenced and staffed. Common needs include learner management, CRM, billing, attendance tracking, safeguarding workflows, identity checks, payroll, HR, finance, document management and reporting for commissioners or institutional clients. Providers using digital delivery also buy hosting, learning-platform development, content production, accessibility testing, analytics, cyber security and device management. Services spend often sits around tutor recruitment, background checking, employment law, accountancy, bid writing, marketing, venue hire and call handling, with larger operators more likely to want integrations between enrolment, delivery and finance systems.
Why and how to sell to them
Education buyers tend to evaluate vendors when contract volume rises, a new site opens, inspection or safeguarding work creates process pressure, or a training buyer asks for clearer evidence of attendance, completion and outcomes. Recent incorporation, new senior hires, tender wins, employer partnerships and a move from ad hoc tutoring to managed cohorts can all indicate intent. Outbound tends to work better when it is specific to the buyer’s funding route: reduce tutor admin for family-paid support, improve reporting for institutional contracts, shorten learner onboarding for employer training, or reduce compliance risk where staff vetting and service continuity sit close to revenue.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
