Warehousing Companies in London: 800+ Active Firms (2026)
Warehousing companies store, pick, pack and dispatch goods for retailers, manufacturers and importers across London and nearby logistics corridors.
Retail operations, procurement and supply-chain teams tend to be the main buying centres, with finance involved where storage, returns and value-added handling become recurring contract costs. Demand is largely business-to-business: online retailers, importers, manufacturers and distributors looking for London-facing capacity rather than a national network. Engagements are usually operationally specific, covering pallet storage, parcel fulfilment, inventory control, dispatch cut-offs and returns handling. The better-fit operators are small to mid-market firms with site-level warehouse processes, transport controls and health and safety procedures, rather than pure courier businesses or self-storage landlords.
London has 889 actively trading warehousing and fulfilment companies, making this a fragmented local market rather than a small group of national operators. Reported employment totals 1,752 people, which points to many site-based teams and owner-managed businesses rather than very large labour forces. Only 49 companies report turnover above £5M, while 223 were incorporated since 2022, so the cohort combines long-running storage and dispatch operators with a sizeable intake of newer fulfilment businesses serving retail, import and business-to-business distribution demand around Greater London.
Warehousing and fulfilment is not covered by a sector-wide operating licence, but compliance obligations can be material. Fulfilment businesses that store goods in the UK for sellers established overseas may need HMRC approval under the Fulfilment House Due Diligence Scheme; trading before approval is a criminal offence, and late or non-application can attract penalties. Health and safety sits closer to the day-to-day operating model, with HSE guidance covering manual handling, mechanical handling, site transport, working at height, accident procedures and avoidable risk. The UK Warehousing Association is the main trade body for the sector.
Customer expectations appear to be moving towards shorter dispatch windows, cleaner inventory visibility and more formal returns processes, which tends to favour operators with disciplined warehouse management rather than spare-floor capacity. Scale-up scarcity may keep acquisition and subcontracting patterns active, especially where retail clients want London-facing coverage without committing to their own facilities. Regulatory pressure is likely to remain practical rather than licence-led: HMRC approval matters for the relevant fulfilment model, while HSE compliance affects almost every warehouse floor. Margin pressure may also push smaller operators to specialise by product type, handling complexity or delivery profile.

Key facts
About 5% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (49 of 889 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
25% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (223 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Fulfilment houses storing goods in the UK for sellers established outside the UK may need HMRC approval under the Fulfilment House Due Diligence Scheme.
GOV.UK says trading before approval is a criminal offence, and late or non-application can attract penalties.
HSE warehousing and storage guidance covers manual handling, mechanical handling, site transport, working at height and accident procedures.
Great Britain had just shy of 690M sq ft of warehouse units over 100,000 sq ft in 2024, up 22% since 2021 and from almost 428M sq ft in 2015.
Third-party logistics was the largest occupier group by space, with 128M sq ft in 2024.

How London warehousing companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Warehousing firms make money from a mix of space, labour and process charges. Storage is usually priced by pallet position, bin, bay or cubic capacity, while handling is charged through receiving, picking, packing, labelling, dispatch and returns activity. Many also earn from value-added work such as kitting, rework, stock checks, relabelling and customer reporting. The service is physical and operational, but the margin often depends on the process layer: warehouse systems, barcode discipline, stock accuracy and the ability to evidence service levels. Pricing tends to combine rate cards with monthly minimums, especially where a client needs reserved capacity or agreed cut-off times.
Who they sell to
Most sell to operations-led buyers rather than technology or marketing teams. Typical contacts include operations directors, supply-chain managers, heads of ecommerce, procurement leads and finance controllers, with founder involvement common in smaller retail or import businesses. The buying process usually starts with stock profile, order volumes, storage needs, service levels and integration requirements, then moves to a site visit or operational review before rate-card negotiation. Smaller customers may buy direct after comparing local providers, while larger brands and distributors tend to use tenders, consultants or multi-site logistics partners. Finance becomes more active when minimum charges, seasonal peaks or returns costs affect margin.
What they buy
Most warehousing firms tend to spend on systems and services that reduce handling errors, control labour costs and keep the site compliant. Common software needs include warehouse management, order and inventory integration, transport management, billing, CRM, workforce scheduling, payroll, HR, analytics and customer reporting. Operational purchases include scanning equipment, label printing, racking, mechanical handling, packaging, facilities maintenance, fire safety, access control, insurance, waste management and energy monitoring. Services sellers may find demand for recruitment, temporary labour supply, health and safety training, employment law, accounting, tax, customs advice and performance marketing. Buyers usually prefer tools that fit existing warehouse processes rather than projects that force a site redesign.
Why and how to sell to them
Warehousing buyers tend to evaluate vendors when capacity tightens, a new customer changes the stock profile, error rates rise, or a site struggles to keep pace with dispatch and returns expectations. Leadership hires, warehouse moves, HSE incidents, new overseas-seller fulfilment activity and pressure from retail clients can also create buying moments. Outbound messages work better when they name an operational cost: mis-picks, disputed invoices, under-used space, labour overrun, late dispatch, poor stock visibility or weak compliance evidence. Generic productivity claims are easy to ignore; more credible pitches show how the offer fits receiving, storage, pick-face control, dispatch, returns or audit trails.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
