Care Provider Companies in London: 29,000+ Active Firms (2026)
Care providers deliver regulated healthcare, treatment, diagnostics, adult social care and support services across London boroughs.
Purchasing centres tend to sit with clinical governance, operations, finance and commissioning teams rather than a single software-style buyer. London care operators sell into several demand pools: NHS and local authority commissioners, private medical insurers, self-pay patients, families arranging adult social care, and employers or schools where specialist treatment is contracted. Engagements range from local service delivery at a registered location to multi-site operating contracts with recurring staffing, safeguarding, clinical-risk and reporting obligations. The most relevant firms show evidence of regulated activity, borough-level delivery and enough operational scale to support inspections, managers and accountable governance.
London has 29,817 actively trading care provider companies in this list, making the capital a dense market for regulated healthcare and adult social care entities. The reported employment footprint totals 14,171 roles, which points to a labour-intensive cohort despite the presence of many small legal entities. The commercial centre of gravity is mixed: a comparatively small revenue-scaled layer sits above many borough-focused operators, clinics and service vehicles. For researchers, the count is useful less as a proxy for capacity than as a map of legal entities that can hold regulated activities, locations and management responsibilities.
Care Quality Commission registration sits at the centre of the English provider market. Any operator carrying on a regulated activity must be registered, and providing such an activity without registration is an offence. Approval attaches to the legal entity, the regulated activities and the locations from which care is delivered; some providers also need a registered manager as a condition of registration. That structure matters in London because ownership, premises and service lines can change separately. A provider adding a new clinic, home-care branch or specialist treatment site may face a regulatory step before the commercial plan can be executed.
Consolidation appears more likely around governance capacity than around brand visibility. Smaller providers tend to face the same inspection, safeguarding and workforce controls as larger operators, but with less administrative depth. That tends to favour groups able to centralise quality systems, registered-manager cover and commissioner reporting across their sites. Newer entrants may still find room in specialist treatment, diagnostics and home-based support, particularly where self-pay or insurer-funded demand sits outside public commissioning cycles. The constraint is less demand awareness than the ability to keep compliance, staffing and premises aligned as services expand.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (245 of 29,817 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
30% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (9,159 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Providers carrying on a CQC-regulated activity in England must register with the Care Quality Commission; providing a regulated activity without registration is an offence.
CQC registration is tied to the legal entity, regulated activities and locations, so multi-site providers need entity and site coverage to align with their operating model.
UK current healthcare expenditure was approximately £317 billion in 2024, with £258 billion government-financed and £46 billion paid out of pocket.
PHIN reported 238,000 private in-patient and day-case admissions in Q1 2024, 3% above the previous highest quarter and 4% above Q4 2023.
UK healthcare expenditure was 11.1% of GDP in 2024, above the OECD average of around 9.3% of GDP on a broad health-system measure.

How London care provider companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Care providers usually earn revenue through a mix of commissioned contracts, per-patient fees, resident fees, insurer-funded activity and self-pay treatment. The operating model is service-heavy rather than software-like: clinical staff, care workers, registered managers, premises, medical equipment, medicines governance and audit trails all sit inside the cost base. Pricing is commonly per visit, per session, per bed, per package of care or under block-style service agreements, with extras for specialist treatment, out-of-hours cover or higher-acuity support. Margins tend to be shaped by staffing ratios, occupancy or utilisation, and the pace at which commissioners or private clients pay.
Who they sell to
Their customers tend to split between public commissioners, private insurers, self-pay patients, residents' families, schools, employers and other health providers needing overflow or specialist capacity. Buyer roles vary by channel: commissioning managers and procurement teams on public contracts, clinical directors and finance teams on insurer or provider partnerships, and families or case managers in adult social care. Public and insurer-funded work usually involves evidence packs, inspection history, safeguarding procedures and tender or framework processes. Self-pay and family-led enquiries move faster, while commissioned service contracts often take months and require site visits, due diligence and agreed reporting.
What they buy
Most London care providers tend to spend on systems that keep regulated service delivery auditable: care planning, clinical record keeping, rostering, payroll, electronic medication administration, incident reporting, complaints handling, safeguarding logs, training records and quality-management workflows. Larger operators also buy finance systems, billing, CRM, contact-centre tooling, analytics, cyber security, identity management and secure communications. Services spend often sits around recruitment, agency staffing, CQC preparation, legal advice, accountancy, insurance, marketing, facilities management, cleaning, maintenance, waste handling and medical consumables. Sellers should expect practical scrutiny around implementation effort, staff adoption, information governance and whether managers can evidence compliance without adding more manual work.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying triggers usually show up when a provider opens a new location, adds a regulated activity, changes ownership, appoints a new registered manager, wins a public contract, expands home-care coverage, or sees occupancy and waiting-list pressure rise. Pain points tend to be operational rather than abstract: staff shortages, rota gaps, delayed invoicing, inspection preparation, safeguarding evidence, complaints handling, clinical-risk escalation and commissioner reporting. Outbound works better when it maps to those events and uses care-specific language. A credible angle is usually cost control, faster evidence retrieval, fewer missed shifts, cleaner handovers or reduced administrative load for managers, rather than a generic efficiency claim.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
