Mental Health Companies in the UK: 7,054 Active Firms (2026)
Mental health companies provide clinical, therapeutic and wellbeing services to people and employers across the UK.
Buying centres tend to sit with clinical operations, HR and wellbeing teams, workforce leads and commissioners rather than a single software owner. Engagements range from retained employer wellbeing contracts and referral-led therapy panels to commissioned clinical services that require staffed delivery, triage, case management and outcome reporting. The more developed providers look less like content platforms and more like distributed services businesses: clinicians, safeguarding processes, quality assurance, booking capacity and physical or remote delivery are part of the operating model. Demand can come from individuals, employers, public bodies and healthcare commissioners, with procurement expectations shaped by governance as much as by price.

The UK cohort contains 7,054 actively trading mental health firms, a broad field that runs from small counselling practices to multi-site clinical operators. Reported headcount totals 12,379 employees, giving the sector a visible staffed-services footprint rather than a purely digital or advisory profile. Scale remains uneven: 185 firms have more than £5M in turnover, while 2,599 were incorporated since 2022. That mix points to a market with many young providers still proving referral channels and utilisation, alongside a thinner layer of organisations with the governance, contracting history and workforce systems needed for larger employer or commissioner relationships.
Operating requirements are shaped less by a single buyer journey and more by clinical risk, safeguarding, referral governance and workforce availability. Providers selling to employers tend to need evidence of outcomes, escalation processes and consistent practitioner coverage; those working with public bodies or healthcare commissioners face longer procurement cycles and closer scrutiny of service quality. Blended models add another layer, because remote delivery, physical-site capacity and case management must be joined up in day-to-day operations. For researchers, that makes the market structure fragmented but not loose: credibility often sits in processes, supervision and contract performance rather than public visibility.
The cohort appears likely to remain split between small clinical operators and a narrower group of scaled service providers. Employer demand tends to favour measurable access, outcomes reporting and dependable escalation, while commissioner-facing work rewards governance maturity and capacity planning. That creates room for consolidation where acquirers can add local clinical supply or referral pathways, but it also leaves many owner-managed practices outside institutional M&A. The newer tail of firms may find growth constrained by clinician recruitment and utilisation management, not just by demand. Over time, the more durable models are likely to be those that combine practitioner depth with repeatable triage, supervision and reporting routines.
What’s in the file
One row per company, 50+ columns — everything below plus each company’s verified directors, from Companies House filings.
Company data
Verified directors — included
Active director count is the full Companies House board, so it can be higher than the number of names listed — we leave out nominee and formation-agent directors, who aren’t worth contacting. It’s blank for the small number of companies whose officers we haven’t fetched yet.
You’re charged per business, not per row. Where a business trades through several registered companies you get every one, and the Group Primary column marks one row per business — filter to those and the count matches your invoice. Rows sharing a website are not automatically one business: franchises and multi-site operators each count separately, and where names don’t prove a relationship we count them apart rather than guess.

Key facts
About 2% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (185 of 7,054 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
36% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (2,599 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Providers cover clinical care, therapy and workplace wellbeing, rather than a single service line.
The buyer base spans individuals and employers, so go-to-market models often differ between private-pay care and workplace support.
Outsourced support models matter for employer-facing providers, particularly where buyers want defined service coverage rather than ad hoc counselling access.

How UK Mental Health companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
UK mental health companies usually earn revenue through a mix of session fees, retained service contracts, referral arrangements and commissioned delivery. The commercial unit is often practitioner time rather than software access: assessment, counselling, psychological therapy, wellbeing support, triage and follow-up. Pricing can be per appointment, per referred case, per employee within an employer contract, or against a service specification agreed with a public body or commissioner. Digital booking, remote consultations and outcomes portals may sit around the service, but the harder operating constraint is clinical capacity, supervision and escalation. Margins therefore depend on utilisation, practitioner cost, missed appointments and the admin burden around referrals and reporting.
Who they sell to
Buyers split between self-paying individuals, employers, public bodies and healthcare commissioners, with different routes to contract. Individual work is often direct and referral-led; employer wellbeing contracts tend to involve HR, wellbeing leads, occupational health, procurement and finance sign-off. Commissioner-facing work usually has more formal service specifications, quality checks and tender processes. Contract size ranges from ad hoc therapy engagements to retained panels and staffed service contracts, so the sales cycle can move from a short direct booking to several months of procurement. Most larger opportunities require evidence on access, coverage, safeguarding, escalation and outcomes rather than a pitch built only around price.
What they buy
Most mental health firms tend to spend on systems and services that reduce clinical admin, support safe delivery and make contract reporting easier. Relevant categories include practice management, scheduling, referral management, case management, outcomes measurement, document handling, finance, billing and payroll. Providers with remote or blended delivery also need secure communications, call handling, identity checks, device management and cyber security support. Staffing pressure creates demand for recruitment, workforce planning, training, supervision tools and HR services. Sales and marketing spend is more mixed: some providers need local demand generation, while others care more about bid support, commissioner relationship management and account reporting for employer contracts.
Why and how to sell to them
Mental health buyers tend to evaluate vendors when demand exposes a process bottleneck: waiting lists grow, utilisation falls, missed appointments rise, or reporting for an employer or commissioner becomes too manual. Other triggers include a new retained contract, expansion into another site, adding remote delivery, a leadership change, fresh funding or preparation for acquisition. Outbound messages usually work better when tied to operating risk and capacity rather than generic growth. Useful angles include faster referral handling, clearer escalation records, lower admin time for clinicians, cleaner outcomes reporting and better visibility of practitioner availability. Claims need to feel evidence-led, because this market is sensitive to governance, trust and service continuity.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
