Oilfield Services Companies in London: 200+ Active Firms (2026)
Oilfield services companies in London provide engineering, well, subsea and asset-support services for upstream energy projects.
Buying centres in this London cohort cluster around offshore operators, asset owners and prime contractors that need engineering capacity, well support, subsea and pipeline expertise, inspection, maintenance and asset-support services. The buyer is usually technical or operational rather than a general corporate function, with procurement shaped by project risk, certification, mobilisation needs and familiarity with the UK Continental Shelf. Engagements tend to be scoped as project packages, framework call-offs or specialist workstreams; smaller advisory jobs exist, but the better-matched suppliers are those able to support mature-basin work, late-life assets, decommissioning, emissions reduction and energy-transition infrastructure.
London has 285 actively trading oilfield services firms, including 22 with turnover above £5M and 43 incorporated since 2022. The reported employment footprint is 831 people, which fits a supplier base of specialist engineering, inspection and asset-support teams rather than labour-heavy operators. London’s role is not simply geographic proximity to fields; it also reflects head-office, finance, legal and commercial functions that sit close to upstream decision-makers while operational delivery links back to offshore energy work on the UK Continental Shelf.
Service providers sit inside the UK upstream oil and gas regime rather than a standalone licensing regime for suppliers. The NSTA regulates offshore petroleum licensing and consents, including exploration, development, wells, production consents, pipeline works authorisations, and flaring and venting controls. That matters commercially because suppliers often inherit compliance requirements through operator contracts, method statements and project assurance processes. The remit also now reaches adjacent energy-transition infrastructure, including carbon dioxide storage and offshore hydrogen transport by pipeline and storage, so some oilfield services work is moving into mixed hydrocarbon and transition-project environments.
London’s cohort appears likely to remain more project-services than product-led. Demand tends to follow late-life asset support, decommissioning preparation, emissions control and adjacent offshore infrastructure, all of which favour suppliers with domain knowledge and documented operating procedures. Many smaller firms may stay intentionally specialist, selling expertise into operator and contractor chains rather than building broad service portfolios. Consolidation remains plausible where customers want fewer interfaces and clearer accountability, but the market also leaves room for niche consultancies and inspection-led teams that can adapt to changing consent, safety and assurance expectations.

Key facts
About 7% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (22 of 285 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
15% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (43 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Service providers sit within the UK upstream oil and gas regime; the North Sea Transition Authority regulates offshore petroleum licensing and consents for exploration, development, wells, production, pipeline works, flaring and venting.
The Energy Act 2016 provides the statutory review framework for offshore petroleum and carbon dioxide storage, with the remit expanded in September 2023 to include offshore hydrogen transport by pipeline and storage.
The NSTA’s 2025 review refers to net zero obligations, a 50% production-emissions reduction target by 2030 against a 2018 baseline, and tighter enforcement for flaring and venting consent exceedances.
Offshore energy supports over 150,000 direct and indirect jobs in 2024, with almost 80% of current offshore energy jobs in oil and gas.
The UK Continental Shelf is a mature basin: 47.7 billion boe had been produced by the end of 2024, while proven and probable reserves stood at 2.9 billion boe.

How London oilfield services companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Oilfield services firms usually earn revenue by selling specialist labour, engineering judgement, equipment-backed services and assurance work into upstream and offshore projects. Pricing is typically built around day rates, fixed-price work packages, reimbursable project costs, framework rates or call-off schedules, with variation orders carrying much of the commercial risk. Some firms also rent or maintain tools and inspection equipment, but the core offer is usually services rather than recurring software. Gross margin tends to depend on utilisation, mobilisation planning, certification, insurance cover and the ability to document safe delivery in high-consequence environments.
Who they sell to
Most sell to upstream operators, offshore asset owners, engineering contractors and supply-chain leads inside larger project teams. Technical authority, wells, subsea, pipeline, integrity, decommissioning, HSE and procurement roles all tend to influence buying, with finance involved once liability, payment terms and framework commitments are agreed. Short urgent jobs may be bought through direct award or existing supplier relationships, while larger workstreams usually pass through pre-qualification, tendering, approved vendor lists and commercial review. Trust matters because a low-cost supplier can become expensive if mobilisation slips, paperwork is incomplete or offshore work has to be repeated.
What they buy
Most oilfield services firms tend to spend on project controls, asset and equipment tracking, inspection reporting, document management, QHSE systems, training records, workforce scheduling, time capture, finance, insurance, legal and specialist recruitment. Field-heavy teams also buy logistics support, calibration, certification, personal protective equipment, marine and aviation coordination, and systems that make audit trails easier to retrieve during operator reviews. Sellers with software propositions usually need to show fit with project-based margins, multi-site delivery and subcontractor management. Services sellers often get further when they understand tender deadlines, mobilisation gates and the cost of idle certified staff.
Why and how to sell to them
Oilfield services buyers tend to evaluate vendors when a framework is being renewed, a decommissioning or integrity workstream is starting, a senior operations or commercial hire joins, or a firm is trying to win larger operator and contractor work. Common pain points include uncertain project timing, tight cash conversion, safety documentation, insurance exposure, certification upkeep and pressure to evidence emissions-related controls. Outbound messages work better when they attach to a specific operating trigger: reducing tender admin, shortening mobilisation, improving audit readiness, protecting utilisation or helping a specialist team look credible to larger procurement functions.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
