Aerospace Manufacturing Companies in Manchester: 48 Active Firms (2026)
Aerospace manufacturers make aircraft parts, structures and systems under aviation-quality controls across Manchester’s industrial base.
Procurement usually sits with tiered aerospace suppliers, defence-prime purchasing teams and specialist operators needing machined parts, assemblies or systems that can pass aviation-quality review. Manchester-area vendors tend to sell into B2B supply chains rather than consumer channels, with long qualification cycles, batch production and repeat orders tied to platform maintenance or programme schedules. Engagements are usually high-value and evidence-heavy: buyers expect traceable materials, controlled production changes, inspection records and certification readiness before volume work moves beyond prototypes or small assemblies.
Manchester’s cohort is small and industrially specific: 48 actively trading aerospace manufacturers sit in this list, of which 11 report turnover above £5M. Reported employment totals 860 people, which points to a base of specialist production teams rather than large final-assembly sites. The age profile also looks mature, with 1 company incorporated since 2022. That mix fits a city-region supply-chain role: firms are likely to compete on process control, customer qualification and repeat manufacturing rather than high-volume consumer-facing demand.
Manufacturers working on regulated aviation products operate inside the CAA’s airworthiness and certification framework, where production-organisation approval can be relevant for aircraft, products, parts and appliances. For export-led supply chains, alignment with EASA and the US FAA also matters because customer qualification often depends on recognised certification routes. ADS remains the UK trade association most closely associated with aerospace, defence, security and space, so its policy work tends to shape how manufacturers track rulemaking, certification capacity and supply-chain requirements.
Manchester appears likely to stay anchored in specialised production, inspection and sub-assembly work rather than broad platform ownership. The cohort’s mature profile suggests entry barriers are practical as much as commercial: accreditation, traceability, customer audits and capital equipment all slow new entrants. Demand tends to follow long aerospace programmes and maintenance cycles, so growth may come in uneven steps as suppliers win or lose approved-vendor positions. Consolidation is plausible where succession, certification burden or customer concentration makes smaller workshops harder to sustain independently.

Key facts
About 22% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (11 of 48 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
2% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (1 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Manufacturers of regulated aviation products may need CAA Part 21 Subpart G production-organisation approval for aircraft, products, parts and appliances.
ADS’ 2024 outlook notes the CAA’s expanded role in rulemaking and certification, with EASA and US FAA alignment material for internationally traded aerospace products.
The UK aerospace sector directly employs 104,000 people and supports 6,000 apprentices.
National aerospace turnover is £30.5 billion, with exports of £20 billion and 70% of domestic aerospace production sold overseas.
The UK aerospace industry is described as the second largest in the world behind the United States, with production focused on engines, helicopters, wings, structures and aircraft systems rather than large civil aircraft.

How Manchester aerospace manufacturing companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Aerospace manufacturers around Manchester usually earn revenue through contract manufacture, build-to-print production, sub-assembly, inspection and engineering-change work. Income often mixes prototype or new-production introduction fees with repeat batch orders, call-off contracts and spares work linked to aircraft maintenance cycles. Pricing tends to be per part, per assembly or per production lot, with separate charges for tooling, fixtures, test activity and non-recurring engineering. Margins depend on machine utilisation, scrap rates, material pass-through and the cost of meeting customer audit requirements. Volume is rarely the whole story; being kept on an approved supplier list can matter as much as winning an isolated order.
Who they sell to
Most sell to tiered aerospace suppliers, defence-prime purchasing teams, specialist aviation operators and engineering-led buyers that need qualified capacity rather than generic fabrication. The commercial conversation usually involves procurement, quality, engineering, supply-chain and programme-management roles, with finance or senior operations brought in when tooling, inventory or multi-year commitments are involved. Sales cycles tend to be long because supplier approval, sample inspection, documentation review and commercial negotiation sit alongside the technical sale. Routes to market are usually direct, through RFQs, approved-vendor lists, framework agreements and customer audits; self-serve purchasing is rare outside low-risk consumables or standard workshop services.
What they buy
Manchester aerospace manufacturers tend to spend on production equipment, cutting tools, fixtures, inspection and calibration services, controlled materials, specialist finishing, and subcontract processes that sit outside their own approvals. Software spend is usually practical: ERP or MRP, quality management, document control, non-conformance tracking, supplier management, quoting, scheduling and finance systems. Cybersecurity, backup, cloud hosting and access control can become more relevant where defence or export customers set supplier-assurance requirements. They also buy recruitment, apprenticeship support, technical training, insurance, legal advice on contracts and exports, energy management, facilities maintenance and accountancy. Sellers need to link these categories to traceability, audit evidence, delivery reliability or working-capital pressure.
Why and how to sell to them
Aerospace manufacturing buyers tend to evaluate vendors when customer audits expose gaps, a new programme stretches capacity, production moves from prototype to repeat batches, or a major customer changes its supplier-assurance requirements. Other triggers include leadership succession, equipment investment, loss of a skilled inspector or machinist, rising rework, slower quote turnaround, and pressure to document material provenance more consistently. Outbound messages work better when they acknowledge the sector’s evidence burden: controlled changes, inspection records, on-time delivery, non-conformance handling and certification readiness. Generic efficiency claims are less persuasive than a clear case for reducing scrap, shortening audit preparation, protecting margin on fixed-price work or freeing scarce engineering time.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
