Allied Health Companies in the UK: 900+ Active Firms (2026)
Allied health companies in the UK provide physiotherapy, rehabilitation and clinical support services across private, public and employer-funded care.
Buying centres are split between clinical operations, HR and occupational-health teams, claims handlers and commissioners that need capacity for therapy-led pathways. Customer types range from self-pay patients and local clinics to employers, insurers, care homes and public-sector buyers. Engagements tend to be service contracts rather than software subscriptions: clinic sessions, onsite assessments, rehabilitation programmes, triage, case management and digitally supported follow-up. The commercial shape is therefore mixed, with owner-managed specialist practices sitting alongside multi-site operators and centralised networks coordinating regulated clinicians and therapy assistants.
The UK cohort contains 986 actively trading allied health companies. Reported headcount totals 2,588 people, covering regulated clinicians, therapy assistants and operational staff where employment is disclosed. The market therefore looks broad but not especially deep, with many specialist practices operating below mid-market healthcare-services scale and a narrower set built for employer, insurer or commissioner contracts. For researchers, the useful split is between local clinic-led delivery and central service models that coordinate practitioner networks across dispersed sites.
Patient-facing care makes the operating context less forgiving than in many outsourced services. Firms need clinical governance, safeguarding, complaints handling, professional registration controls and patient confidentiality baked into ordinary delivery, not treated as a procurement afterthought. Market structure also varies by buyer: self-pay clinics compete on access and continuity, employer-funded services emphasise absence management and return-to-work pathways, and commissioner or insurer-funded work brings audit trails, service-level reporting and evidence of practitioner credentials. The result is a sector where administrative discipline tends to matter as much as local referral flow.
Employer-funded musculoskeletal and occupational-health work appears to favour providers that can combine local clinical delivery with central triage, reporting and case management. Smaller practices may keep defensible niches where referral relationships and practitioner reputation matter, but they tend to face pressure when buyers ask for coverage across dispersed workforces or standardised outcomes evidence. Consolidation has been easier to imagine than to execute, because clinician availability, local clinic economics and contract mobilisation all constrain roll-up models. Digitally supported pathways should keep spreading, although hands-on assessment and rehabilitation remain hard to replace.

Key facts
About 2% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (25 of 986 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
7% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (74 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Allied health providers turn clinical labour, treatment space and referral flows into scheduled services rather than product sales.
Buying routes span private patients, public-sector referrals and employer-funded care.
Operating models can include clinic networks, outsourced clinical-support contracts and group or contractor structures.
Subcontracting and group ownership can make payroll size a poor proxy for service scale.

How UK allied health companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Allied health providers earn revenue mainly from clinical service delivery rather than licences or media income. Common charging models include per-appointment fees for self-pay patients, day rates for onsite employer work, per-case pricing for insurer and claims activity, and block or framework contracts for commissioners and care providers. Some add digital triage, remote reviews or outcome tracking around the clinical pathway, but the paid unit usually remains practitioner time, capacity and documented progress. Margins tend to depend on clinician utilisation, premises costs, referral flow and how much administration can be centralised without weakening clinical governance.
Who they sell to
Most providers sell into a mixed buyer base. Self-pay and clinic referrals can convert quickly through local reputation, search and practitioner networks, while employer, insurer and public-sector work usually involves HR, occupational-health, claims, procurement and clinical governance stakeholders. Decision-makers tend to ask for practitioner credentials, coverage, reporting cadence, complaints processes and evidence that pathways shorten absence, speed rehabilitation or improve continuity of care. Smaller engagements may be booked directly by patients or referrers; larger contracts are more likely to move through tenders, framework panels, insurer networks or negotiated service agreements over several weeks to several months.
What they buy
Most allied health firms tend to spend on systems and services that protect clinical time and make case progress visible. Relevant categories include patient-record and practice-management software, appointment scheduling, referral management, billing, claims administration, secure messaging, document control, outcomes reporting and analytics. Multi-site and employer-facing providers also need workforce planning, credential checks, rota management, HR, payroll, learning records and incident reporting. Common external services include clinical governance advice, accountancy, legal support, recruitment, local marketing, cyber security, telephony, payment processing, premises support and insurance. The more contract-led operators often care as much about reporting workflows as about front-office booking volume.
Why and how to sell to them
Allied health buyers tend to evaluate vendors when case volumes rise, new sites open, a large employer or insurer contract is won, clinical leadership changes, or administration starts to slow practitioners down. Useful outbound angles are usually operational rather than glossy: fewer missed appointments, faster triage, cleaner audit trails, easier credential management, better utilisation and clearer evidence for commissioners or claims teams. Sellers should expect clinical and operational objections, especially around patient confidentiality, workflow disruption and practitioner adoption. Messages that map directly to referral handling, absence management, rehabilitation outcomes or contract reporting are more credible than broad efficiency claims.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
