Aviation Companies in London: 1,000+ Active Firms (2026)
Aviation companies in London operate air transport, airport, groundhandling and regulated support services in a major UK travel hub.
Buying centres tend to sit with airline operations teams, airport-service procurement, safety and compliance functions, and travel-distribution or logistics units that need regulated aviation capability rather than generic outsourcing. Customers are mostly B2B and public-sector-adjacent: airlines, airport operators, aircraft operators, travel intermediaries, cargo buyers and transport authorities. Engagements usually involve formal onboarding, insurance checks, service-level commitments and evidence of CAA-facing controls. The commercial centre of gravity is mid-market, with contracts tied to passenger flow, cargo handling, operational resilience or compliance workload rather than discretionary software-style buying.

London has 1,065 actively trading aviation companies in this list, spanning passenger, cargo, airport-service and regulated support activities connected to the capital's travel infrastructure. Reported headcount totals 1,624 people, so the visible employment footprint is fairly concentrated: many firms appear to be small operators or specialist service providers, while employment is likely clustered among businesses with operational rosters, regulated functions and recurring airport or airline relationships.
The Civil Aviation Authority sits at the centre of the operating environment, covering aviation safety regulation, airspace policy, economic regulation of specified major airports, airline licensing, financial fitness and the ATOL protection scheme. Its remit also touches consumer protection, security, slots, insurance, dangerous goods and groundhandling. That breadth matters commercially: buyers tend to look for providers that can evidence controlled processes, staff competence, insurance cover and continuity planning, particularly where services connect directly to passengers, cargo movements or airport-side activity.
Commercial development appears likely to be uneven. A sizeable tail of newer and specialist operators tends to compete around compliance support, handling workflows and operational niches, while a smaller set of higher-turnover businesses has more room to absorb insurance, staffing and systems costs. Regulatory pressure may favour firms with repeatable processes and established buyer relationships, but it can also slow entry into airport-side work. Consolidation looks more plausible in service lines with recurring contracts than in fragmented advisory or intermediary activity.

Key facts
About 2% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (22 of 1,065 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
23% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (249 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
The CAA regulates UK aviation safety, airspace policy, economic regulation of specified major airports, airline licensing, financial fitness and ATOL protection.
The CAA framework references the Civil Aviation Act 1982, Air Navigation Order 2016, Rules of the Air 2015 and Dangerous Goods Regulations 2002.
UK air transport directly contributed £14 billion to GDP in 2023 and provided over 140,000 jobs across the UK in 2022.
Department for Transport statistics record 258.5 million international passengers travelling to or from UK airports in 2024, slightly above 2019 levels.
London’s airports serve more routes than any other European city, while the UK has the third largest aviation network in the world after the United States and China.

How London aviation companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
London aviation companies usually make money from operational services rather than one-off product sales: passenger and cargo handling, aircraft support, regulated advisory work, travel-protection administration, licensing support, and systems that sit around airline or airport workflows. Pricing tends to follow the activity being served, such as per-flight, per-turnaround, per-passenger, per-shipment, day-rate or retained compliance models. Higher-trust work normally carries insurance, training and documentation costs inside the price. The service shape is therefore mixed: physical airport-side labour, specialist professional services, regulated process outsourcing and operational software used to prove that work was completed.
Who they sell to
Typical customers are airlines, airport operators, aircraft operators, cargo and logistics buyers, travel intermediaries and public-sector transport teams. Buying groups often include an operations director or station manager, procurement, finance, safety, compliance and legal, because supplier failure can interrupt passenger flow, cargo movement or licence conditions. Smaller engagements may be bought directly after checks on insurance and references; larger airport-side or airline-facing contracts tend to move through tender, framework or preferred-supplier processes. Sales cycles are rarely purely self-serve, with buyers usually asking for service levels, continuity plans, staff competence evidence and escalation routes before awarding recurring work.
What they buy
Most aviation firms tend to spend on tools and services that reduce operational friction while satisfying audit and safety expectations. Common categories include workforce scheduling, training management, vetting, payroll, finance systems, document control, incident reporting, supplier management, insurance broking, legal support, accounting, recruitment and cyber security. Firms with airport-side activity may also buy communications equipment, facilities support, vehicles, maintenance services and identity or access-control processes. Digital operators and travel intermediaries usually add customer support tooling, payment operations, fraud controls, analytics and API management, particularly where passenger bookings or cargo status updates create peaks in demand.
Why and how to sell to them
Aviation buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when operational exposure changes: a new airport or airline contract, a shift in cargo volumes, a CAA-facing audit, an insurance renewal, a safety incident, senior operations hire or headcount build-up. The better outbound angle is usually risk, continuity and cost per movement, not generic efficiency. Messages land more cleanly when they reference the buyer's regulated workflow, show how implementation avoids disruption, and make evidence easy for procurement, safety and finance teams. Newer London entrants may be receptive to packaged processes; larger mid-market operators usually need proof that a vendor can work inside existing controls.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
