B2B Companies in Manchester: 5,700+ Active Firms (2026)
B2B companies sell products or services to other organisations, with this Manchester cohort centred on the city and wider metropolitan area.
Procurement, finance, operations and IT teams tend to be the main buying centres, with sales often moving through tendering, supplier qualification and account-led renewal rather than consumer-style acquisition. Manchester’s organisation-to-organisation suppliers span professional services, wholesale distribution, telecoms, data processing, outsourced operations and technology-enabled services. Customers range from local SMEs buying specialist support to larger corporates and public-sector bodies using formal frameworks or multi-site contracts. Typical engagements are repeatable rather than one-off: retained advisory work, managed-service agreements, supply arrangements, implementation projects and support contracts where switching costs sit in process knowledge, compliance history and service continuity.
Manchester has 5,711 actively trading B2B companies in this cohort, giving the city and wider metropolitan area a sizeable organisation-to-organisation supplier base rather than a niche cluster. Reported employment across the cohort totals 10,230 people, reflecting a mix of lean specialist firms and employers with multi-site teams. Revenue scale is uneven: 751 companies report turnover above £5M, while 366 were incorporated since 2022. That points to a market weighted towards established SMEs and mid-market operators, with newer entrants present but not dominating the list.
No single UK licence covers Manchester’s B2B suppliers; obligations follow the service being sold. Financial services, telecoms, data processing and professional services each bring their own rulebooks, while sales and marketing activity often sits under ICO guidance. PECR covers direct marketing by live or automated calls, electronic mail and fax. The electronic-mail rule does not apply to corporate subscribers, so emails or texts to corporate bodies do not need PECR consent, but senders must identify themselves and provide a valid opt-out address. UK GDPR still applies where personal data is processed, including business-contact details. Live marketing calls also need screening against CTPS and TPS where relevant.
The Manchester cohort appears likely to keep dividing between relationship-led service providers and more productised technology-enabled suppliers. Formal procurement, compliance checks and account management tend to favour firms with repeat delivery capacity, not just low-cost acquisition. Early-commercial entrants may find room in specialist niches, but scale-up scarcity is likely to remain visible where delivery depends on skilled staff, accredited processes or sector-specific knowledge. Consolidation also appears plausible in fragmented services such as outsourced operations, data handling and specialist advisory work, particularly where buyers prefer fewer suppliers with clearer accountability.

Key facts
About 13% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (751 of 5,711 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
6% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (366 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
B2B is not a single licensed industry in the UK; regulation depends on the underlying activity, such as financial services, telecoms, data processing or professional services.
The ICO says PECR covers direct marketing by live or automated calls, electronic mail and fax.
B2B emails or texts to corporate bodies do not need PECR consent, but senders must not conceal their identity and must provide a valid opt-out address.
UK GDPR still applies where personal data is processed, including business-contact data.
ONS reported 2.73 million VAT and/or PAYE businesses as of March 2025, up 0.4% from March 2024.

How Manchester B2B companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Manchester B2B suppliers usually earn through retained services, managed contracts, wholesale margin, implementation fees, licences, subscriptions or usage-based charges. The commercial shape is often less about a single product sale and more about keeping an organisation’s operations running: supplying stock, processing data, managing outsourced workflows, advising on compliance, maintaining connectivity or supporting internal teams. Smaller engagements may begin as a project, audit or trial account, then move into repeat purchasing if delivery risk is low. Larger accounts tend to be priced around service scope, user numbers, transaction volume, response times or contracted capacity, with renewal tied to performance, procurement review and the buyer’s appetite for switching supplier.
Who they sell to
Typical buyers are SMEs, mid-market firms, corporates, local public-sector bodies and other service providers that need capacity or specialist knowledge without hiring it all internally. Decision-makers vary by offer: finance directors scrutinise cost and payment terms, operations leaders care about service continuity, IT heads assess integration and security, and procurement teams manage supplier qualification. Sales cycles are often short where the buyer is filling an immediate gap, but longer where contracts involve framework access, due diligence, insurance checks or multiple budget holders. Many firms sell directly through owner-led networks and account managers, while larger opportunities move through tenders, referrals, partner channels or formal renewal processes.
What they buy
Most Manchester B2B firms tend to spend on tools and services that reduce account risk, improve delivery control and make procurement evidence easier to produce. Common software needs include customer and account management, quoting, billing, finance, payroll, HR, project management, service desk, analytics, document control, cyber security and marketing automation. Technology-enabled suppliers also buy cloud hosting, connectivity, monitoring, data storage and integration support. Service spend often goes into recruitment, outsourced finance, legal advice, insurance, accreditation, bid writing, search marketing and sector-specific consultancy. Wholesale and operations-heavy businesses may also need warehousing, logistics support, inventory systems and supplier-management processes that can cope with repeat orders and variable demand.
Why and how to sell to them
B2B buyers in this cohort tend to evaluate vendors when delivery strain becomes visible: new contract wins, framework bids, leadership changes, margin pressure, service failures, audit requirements or headcount growth. A useful sales angle is usually tied to a measurable operating problem rather than a broad efficiency claim. Sellers should show how the offer helps win or retain accounts, pass supplier checks, reduce manual admin, protect customer data, shorten billing cycles or improve service reporting. Manchester firms with established client books may be cautious about disruption, so outbound tends to work better when it references a specific workflow, procurement burden or renewal risk and offers a low-friction first step.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
