B2B Companies in Cambridge: 600+ Active Firms (2026)
B2B companies in Cambridge sell products or services to other organisations across technology, professional services and supply chains.
Demand tends to sit around specialist services, technology enablement, data processing, communications, manufacturing supply and life-sciences support, rather than consumer acquisition. Buying centres are usually finance, operations, procurement, technical leadership and regulated-service teams, with sales motions ranging from repeat project work to retained delivery and enterprise account management. The better-fitting Cambridge firms serve business, public-sector or professional buyers through recurring contracts, wholesale relationships or specialist projects. Engagements are typically operationally embedded: supplier onboarding, service-level scrutiny, information-security checks and evidence of UK revenue matter more than broad consumer reach.
Cambridge has 634 actively trading B2B companies in this list, giving the city a compact but varied business-to-business base rather than a single vertical cluster. The turnover profile has a visible upper band: 68 firms report more than £5M in revenue, which points to a mix of project-led service providers, specialist suppliers and established technology operators. New company formation is present but not dominant, with 37 firms incorporated since 2022. Reported employment totals 1,845 people, while 100% of firms that disclose headcount record at least one employee; that makes the footprint more employer-led than a list of dormant shells or holding vehicles.
Regulation follows the underlying activity rather than the B2B label. Cambridge suppliers selling into financial services, telecoms, data processing or professional services may face sector-specific rules alongside ordinary contract and consumer-protection boundaries. Marketing controls are a more common cross-sector issue. The ICO treats PECR as covering direct marketing by live or automated calls, electronic mail and fax. Corporate-subscriber email and text outreach does not need PECR consent, but senders must identify themselves and offer a valid opt-out route. UK GDPR still applies to business-contact data, and live B2B calling requires screening against CTPS and TPS, including respect for prior objections.
Cambridge’s B2B market appears more likely to mature through procurement discipline than through a broad rush of new entrants. Buyers tend to ask for evidence on delivery capacity, information security, financial resilience and data-handling practice before expanding a supplier relationship. That favours firms with repeat revenue, sector knowledge and credible implementation teams, while leaner consultancies and newer software providers may find sales cycles harder to compress. Consolidation looks plausible where adjacent service lines overlap, but the more durable pattern may be tighter qualification: fewer speculative pilots, more emphasis on measurable operational value, and closer scrutiny of marketing permissions.

Key facts
About 10% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (68 of 634 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
5% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (37 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
B2B is not a single licensed industry in the UK; regulation depends on the activity, including financial services, telecoms, data processing and professional services.
The ICO says PECR covers direct marketing by live or automated calls, electronic mail and fax.
B2B emails or texts to corporate bodies do not need PECR consent under the ICO’s electronic-mail guidance, but senders must identify themselves and give a valid opt-out address.
UK GDPR still applies where business-contact personal data is processed, and live B2B calls require screening against CTPS and TPS.
ONS reported 2.73 million VAT and/or PAYE businesses as of March 2025, up 0.4% from March 2024.

How Cambridge B2B companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Cambridge B2B firms usually monetise expertise, access or operational capacity rather than audience reach. Engagements often start as scoped projects or supplier trials, then move into retainers, support contracts, subscriptions or framework agreements once the buyer trusts delivery. Software and data operators favour per-seat, per-usage or licence pricing; consultancies and technical services lean on day-rates, milestone fees and managed-service retainers; manufacturers and specialist suppliers earn through volume pricing, assemblies or recurring service packs. Margins depend less on broad brand awareness than on utilisation, renewal rates, delivery quality and the cost of supporting demanding business customers.
Who they sell to
Customers are typically SMEs, mid-market firms, corporate departments, public bodies and professional practices, with the buying centre varying by risk. Department heads may approve lower-risk services, while operationally embedded work tends to involve finance, procurement, technical leadership, information security and legal review. CTOs, CFOs, operations directors, heads of procurement and compliance teams are common stakeholders. Sales usually run through direct outreach, referrals, partner relationships, tender portals or account-managed renewals. Shorter cycles suit repeatable services and low-integration tools; longer cycles appear where the supplier touches regulated workflows, sensitive data, core systems or multi-site delivery.
What they buy
Most Cambridge B2B firms tend to spend on systems that help them win, deliver and retain business accounts. Relevant categories include CRM, quoting, billing, finance, contract management, project delivery, service desk, customer support, business intelligence and marketing operations. Technical operators may also buy cloud infrastructure, monitoring, identity management, backup, endpoint security, data governance and developer tooling. Service-led firms often need recruitment, payroll, legal, tax, audit, insurance, bid-writing and outsourced finance support. Suppliers with physical operations may also buy logistics, facilities, equipment maintenance, quality management and specialist compliance services, especially where customer audits are part of the sales process.
Why and how to sell to them
B2B buyers tend to evaluate vendors when a new customer exposes gaps in delivery capacity, reporting, security evidence or procurement discipline. Other triggers include a move from project work to retained revenue, hiring in finance or operations, a new technical leader, a regulated customer account, tender activity, or pressure to evidence GDPR, PECR, CTPS and TPS controls. Outbound works better when it connects to a specific commercial process: shortening supplier onboarding, reducing manual admin, improving renewal visibility, lowering delivery risk or helping account teams prove compliance. Broad productivity claims usually land poorly unless tied to a buyer role and a live operational bottleneck.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
