Travel and Hospitality Companies in Cambridge: 600+ Active Firms (2026)
Travel and hospitality companies in Cambridge sell accommodation, visitor services, trips and licensed venues across the city and nearby market towns.
Buying centres in this Cambridge cohort split between accommodation and venue operators selling to local leisure and corporate demand, visitor-service providers handling tours, transport-adjacent bookings and customer service, and food-service or events venues with walk-in as well as pre-booked revenue. Engagement size tends to be modest for independents, covering room nights, table bookings, ticketed visits and managed group itineraries, while larger employers handle recurring corporate travel, events, catering or multi-site hospitality contracts. Digital booking, enquiry handling and reputation management matter across the group, but local premises and licensing responsibilities still shape the operating model more than pure online distribution.
Cambridge has 672 actively trading travel and hospitality firms in this list, spanning city-centre venues, accommodation operators, visitor services and nearby market-town hospitality businesses. Reported employment totals 2,516 people, so the footprint is not just owner-managed premises, although many operators remain small. The revenue distribution is narrow: 3 firms sit above £5M turnover, while 230 were incorporated since 2022. That combination points to a local market with frequent new formation, a thin layer of larger employers, and demand tied to tourism, events, business travel and city-centre footfall.
Flight-inclusive package sales sit under the CAA’s ATOL regime, so Cambridge travel agents and tour organisers that package flights face a different compliance profile from local accommodation or visitor-service operators. Venues selling or supplying alcohol in England and Wales need authorisation from a local licensing authority, usually the council; permanent sales normally require a premises licence, with alcohol sales authorised by a personal licence holder. UKHospitality and ABTA may shape policy debates or dispute routing, but membership is not a substitute for statutory permission. The result is a market where compliance depends on the activity rather than the broad travel-and-hospitality label.
Near-term development appears likely to favour operators that can blend local premises with controlled direct booking, corporate enquiry handling and repeat visitor demand. New formation has been visible, but the scarcity of higher-revenue firms suggests many entrants may remain small or asset-light. Cost pressure, seasonality and licensing administration tend to make consolidation more plausible in venues and managed service operations than in owner-operated cafés, rooms or niche visitor activities. Travel organisers with flight-inclusive products face a more formal protection regime, while purely local hospitality businesses are more exposed to staffing, rent and footfall.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (3 of 672 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
34% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (230 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Flight-inclusive package travel sold in the UK falls under the CAA’s ATOL regime, and ATOL holders pay £2.50 per traveller into a trust fund for refunds, reimbursement or repatriation.
Hospitality venues in England and Wales that sell or supply alcohol usually need local-authority authorisation under the Licensing Act 2003, with permanent alcohol sales normally requiring a premises licence.
UKHospitality says hospitality is the UK’s third-largest employer, with 3.6 million people working in the sector and a direct annual contribution of £96 billion.
ONS estimates overseas residents made 42.6 million visits to the UK in 2024 and spent £32.5 billion; ONS labels these estimates as official statistics in development.
UK residents made 94.6 million visits abroad in 2024 and spent £78.6 billion, compared with 42.6 million inbound visits and £32.5 billion inbound spend.

How Cambridge travel and hospitality companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Cambridge travel and hospitality operators monetise time, space and service capacity rather than a purely digital product. Accommodation businesses sell nightly inventory and add-ons; venues earn through food, drink, room hire, ticketed events and catering; visitor-service and travel organisers take margin on itineraries, supplier commissions or booking fees. Pricing is usually yield-led for rooms and events, fixed or menu-led for food service, and quote-based for groups. Engagements range from walk-in purchases and online reservations to managed corporate bookings with deposits, cancellation terms and account invoicing. Revenue can be seasonal, with cash flow tied to occupancy, footfall, event calendars and the reliability of local demand.
Who they sell to
Demand typically comes from leisure visitors, residents, business travellers, event organisers and local employers arranging rooms, meals, meetings or visitor experiences. Smaller operators usually sell through direct enquiries, booking forms, phone calls, walk-ins and third-party listing channels, while larger venues and managed service providers may use sales teams, account management and repeat corporate relationships. The buying contact is often an office manager, event lead, travel coordinator, HR manager, procurement manager or finance approver, with owner-managers still common on the supplier side. Sales cycles are short for individual bookings, but corporate hospitality, venue hire and managed travel can involve quotations, site visits, menu or itinerary changes, and internal approval.
What they buy
Most firms in this segment tend to spend on tools that protect occupancy, margin and customer response times. Common software categories include booking and reservation systems, channel management, customer messaging, CRM, point-of-sale, payments, accounting, payroll, workforce scheduling, rota planning, stock control, revenue management, review monitoring and basic analytics. Operators with accommodation or events need website, photography, search marketing and enquiry-handling support, while larger employers may add HR, training, cyber security, access control, guest internet, telephony and cloud back-office systems. Services spend often goes into accountants, licensing advice, insurance broking, recruitment, cleaning, laundry, maintenance and local marketing.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying intent often appears when an operator adds rooms, takes on a new venue, changes a premises licence, formalises corporate accounts or moves from ad hoc enquiries to managed bookings. Sellers should expect cost sensitivity: many buyers are balancing staffing, rent, utilities, commissions and seasonal demand, so a pitch framed around faster enquiry response, fewer booking errors, better utilisation or simpler compliance administration tends to be easier to test than a broad efficiency claim. Useful triggers include new site fit-outs, hiring for operations or finance roles, a rise in review volume, a switch to direct booking, or preparation for a busy visitor or events period.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
