Creator Economy Companies in the UK: 18,000+ Active Firms (2026)
Creator economy companies in the UK produce, monetise and distribute digital media, influencer campaigns and audience-led content.
Buying centres tend to sit in marketing, commerce, media and communications teams, with budgets owned by brand managers, performance marketers and publishing leads rather than IT. Suppliers sell to consumer brands, agencies, retailers, publishers and creator-led businesses, usually through campaign briefs, retained content services, licensing arrangements or subscription access to audience tools. The customer base ranges from small businesses buying creator support on a project basis to enterprise marketing teams procuring multi-channel campaigns. Engagements are often tied to audience reach, content volume, rights usage, disclosure controls and measurable commerce outcomes, which gives the sector a mixed service-and-software profile.

Around 18,590 creator-economy companies are actively trading in the UK. Reported employment is narrower than the company count suggests: firms with headcount returns account for 2,066 staff, leaving the observed payroll footprint concentrated among a subset of employers rather than across the full long tail. The market includes many owner-led publishers, creator-service shops and campaign agencies, alongside a smaller revenue-scale layer serving brand, retail and media clients. That mix makes turnover rankings useful, but it also means early commercial traction can sit outside conventional employer metrics.
UK digital content and influencer-marketing operators are mainly governed through consumer-protection and advertising rules rather than a sector licence. GOV.UK and CMA guidance treats hidden advertising and deceptive commercial practices as potential breaches of consumer law, with enforcement routes that can include fines. Incentivised content, including gifts, commissions, affiliate links, sponsorships and own-brand promotions, must be clearly identifiable as advertising. ASA and CAP guidance expects marketing communications to be obviously identifiable, with clear and prominent labels such as “Ad”. Enforcement context sits across the CMA, Trading Standards Services and the Advertising Standards Authority.
Commercial maturity appears uneven. A large tail of creator-led studios and content-commerce operators tends to remain service-heavy, while the more scalable models sit closer to rights management, campaign workflow, audience analytics and commerce infrastructure. Regulatory pressure is likely to keep pushing disclosure, substantiation and brand-safety processes into routine campaign operations, especially where affiliates, gifted products and own-brand promotions overlap. Consolidation may continue through agency groups and media operators buying production capacity or niche audience access, but smaller specialists can still retain an advantage where category knowledge and audience trust matter more than procurement scale.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (113 of 18,590 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
23% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (4,455 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
gov.uk and CMA guidance treats hidden ads and misleading practices as consumer-protection issues that can lead to substantial fines.
ASA/CAP guidance says Section 2 of the CAP Code requires marketing communications to be obviously identifiable.
Advertorials, affiliate marketing and own-brand promotional posts are expected to use clear, prominent labelling such as “Ad”.
DCMS provisional estimates put DCMS-sector GVA at £247.6 billion in 2024, equal to 9.4% of UK GVA.
DCMS reported DCMS-sector GVA growth of 2.6% from 2023 to 2024, driven by creative industries at +4.6%.

How UK creator economy companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Creator economy operators make money by packaging audience attention, content rights and campaign execution into chargeable units. Revenue commonly combines sponsored content fees, affiliate commission, ad inventory share, paid memberships, content licensing, production retainers and marketplace take rates. Software-adjacent firms add subscription access to creator discovery, campaign workflow, social listening, link tracking or commerce attribution. Engagements can be one-off briefs for a launch, or annual programmes where usage rights, exclusivity, approval rounds and reporting obligations drive price. Gross margin varies: creator-led publishers can grow through owned audiences, while agencies and studios remain constrained by talent, production capacity and client-servicing workload.
Who they sell to
Most customers are consumer-facing brands, retailers, agencies, media owners and creator-led businesses that need audience access or content production without building the whole capability in-house. Budget holders are usually marketing directors, heads of brand, ecommerce leads, communications teams and, for larger programmes, procurement and legal. Smaller purchases tend to move through direct relationships, inbound enquiries or agency referrals; larger brand work is more often brief-led, with competitive pitching, compliance checks and usage-rights negotiation. Sales cycles are short for tactical campaign support and longer where the supplier handles paid media, data capture, affiliate conversion or ongoing community management.
What they buy
Most creator-economy firms tend to spend on tools and services that reduce manual coordination across creators, clients, content assets and payments. Common software categories include CRM, campaign workflow, briefing and approval tools, rights and consent management, analytics, attribution, social scheduling, affiliate tracking, accounting, invoicing and payout administration. As teams grow, security, access control, data protection, HR systems and project-resourcing tools become more relevant, particularly where freelancers, talent managers and client stakeholders all touch the same work. Services budgets often go to commercial legal advice, advertising compliance review, tax and accounting, performance marketing, production support and recruitment for client service, content strategy and revenue operations roles.
Why and how to sell to them
Pain is usually created by margin leakage, hard-to-prove attribution, late approvals, unclear rights ownership and the operational risk of mislabelled advertising. Buyers tend to evaluate vendors when campaign volume outgrows spreadsheets, when a brand asks for tighter reporting, when a new commerce or affiliate line needs payout controls, or when leadership hires a commercial operator to make revenue less founder-dependent. Outbound works better when it speaks to the buyer’s workflow rather than generic creator economy messaging: fewer approval loops, clearer usage rights, auditable disclosure, faster talent matching, cleaner client reporting and less finance admin after campaigns close.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
