Furniture Companies in the UK: 7,500+ Active Firms (2026)
Furniture companies in the UK design, manufacture, wholesale and retail household and commercial furnishings.
Buying centres tend to split between residential retail, contract interiors and trade distribution, rather than sitting with a single procurement owner. Owner-managed retailers and workshop-led manufacturers usually sell direct to households or local trade buyers; importers, wholesalers and contract suppliers sell into mid-market retailers, hospitality, office and interiors projects. Engagements range from ecommerce baskets and showroom orders to repeat trade accounts, fit-out packages and warehouse-backed supply arrangements.
The UK has 7,578 actively trading furniture companies, spanning retailers, manufacturers, importers, wholesalers and contract suppliers. The firms reporting headcount together employ 2,989 people, concentrated where operators run staffed showrooms, warehousing, manufacturing, installation and trade-sales functions. The balance of the cohort still looks owner-managed and operationally mixed, so revenue scale is likely to sit alongside channel breadth rather than a single manufacturing-or-retail pattern.
Channel and use case shape the regulatory load more than the sector label. Consumer-facing retailers need clear product descriptions, returns handling and after-sales records; importers and wholesalers have extra work around origin, traceability and documentation; contract-interiors suppliers tend to carry site, installation, warranty and procurement obligations. Materials, fire performance and claims about sustainability also affect risk, particularly where goods move from household ranges into hospitality, office or fitted-interior projects.
The cohort appears fragmented, with many businesses remaining local, showroom-led or workshop-led while a smaller group has enough scale to support warehousing, trade distribution and ecommerce. Margin pressure is likely to keep attention on stock discipline, import costs and faster-moving ranges rather than pure footprint expansion. Consolidation may be selective: buyers tend to value repeat trade accounts, contract access and operational capacity, but design-led independents can remain deliberately small when founder control and local reputation matter.

Key facts
About 2% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (166 of 7,578 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
20% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (1,519 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
UK furniture firms span design, manufacture, wholesale and retail across household and commercial furnishings.
Demand tends to track housing activity, office fit-outs, hospitality refurbishments and consumer spending on the home.
Larger operators include scaled manufacturers, multi-site retailers, import-led wholesalers and contract-furniture suppliers.
Staffing models vary with the amount of manufacturing, warehousing, installation and retail operation kept in-house.

How UK Furniture companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Furniture firms usually make money through margin on bought-in stock, workshop or factory production, and project-linked services such as measuring, delivery, installation and aftercare. Retailers price by item, range and finish, with deposits and staged payments common for made-to-order goods. Wholesalers and importers work around trade price lists, volume discounts, credit terms and container or pallet economics. Contract suppliers tend to quote against specifications, lead times, installation windows and warranty obligations, so revenue depends as much on stock availability and operational planning as on design appeal.
Who they sell to
Household-facing retailers mostly sell to consumers through showrooms, online channels and local referrals, with owner-managers often close to purchasing and merchandising decisions. Trade distributors sell to independent retailers, interior designers, builders and fit-out contractors, where buyers care about credit terms, delivery reliability and repeatable ranges. Contract interiors suppliers typically deal with procurement managers, project managers, designers and finance teams in hospitality, office and residential developments. Larger contracts usually involve samples, drawings, compliance paperwork and staged approvals, while smaller trade accounts can be won through price lists, availability and service history.
What they buy
Most furniture firms tend to spend on systems that help them manage stock, orders, margins and fulfilment across showrooms, warehouses, workshops and online channels. Useful categories include inventory management, point-of-sale, ecommerce tooling, finance software, trade account management, delivery scheduling, product information management and customer service systems. Importers and wholesalers may also need freight, customs, warehouse, labelling and quality-control support. Manufacturers and workshop-led firms often buy design, costing, production planning, materials sourcing, health and safety, recruitment and bookkeeping services, while contract suppliers tend to need document control, estimating and project coordination.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying intent often appears when a furniture firm adds a warehouse, opens another showroom, launches a trade channel, takes on contract work or starts importing more directly. Pain points tend to sit in slow-moving stock, long lead times, returns, damaged goods, margin leakage, supplier reliability and inconsistent product information across channels. Sellers usually get further by tying the pitch to cash conversion, fewer order errors, better range planning or shorter time from quote to delivery. Operational evidence matters: furniture buyers are likely to ask how a vendor fits seasonal ranges, deposits, made-to-order items, delivery slots and after-sales claims.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
