Infrastructure PE Companies in London: 90+ Active Firms (2026)

Infrastructure PE firms invest institutional capital into transport, energy, utilities and social-infrastructure assets, with bases in London.

Buying centres cluster around origination, financing and asset-management functions rather than conventional corporate software or services procurement. The primary counterparties are institutional asset owners, fund vehicles, concession-backed operators and infrastructure platforms, with sales cycles shaped by mandate fit, governance rights and long-horizon cash-flow assumptions. Engagements tend to sit at asset, platform or fund-advisory level rather than project-by-project consultancy. London bases are therefore often client-facing and transaction-led: small specialist teams combine sourcing, due diligence, debt structuring and post-acquisition oversight for transport, energy, utilities, digital infrastructure and social-infrastructure exposures.

London has 91 actively trading infrastructure PE firms, a compact cohort by private-markets standards. Reported employment totals 414 people, which points to a labour-light model built around investment professionals, finance specialists and asset managers rather than large operating workforces. 6 firms report turnover above £5M, so the revenue distribution appears concentrated in a small upper band, with many firms functioning as advisory managers, general-partner vehicles or holding platforms. The London footprint matters because these businesses often serve UK and international infrastructure opportunities from the same headquarters or advisory office.

Market structure is activity-led. Fund advisers, investment managers and asset-holding platforms do not all carry the same obligations, especially where privately owned infrastructure sits alongside concession-backed assets. Diligence tends to extend beyond price and leverage into concession length, financing covenants, planning exposure, counterparty permissions and operational governance. That makes infrastructure PE less comparable with generalist buyout activity: asset control, public-service sensitivity and long-duration contractual cash flows sit close to the centre of underwriting.

Capital deployment appears likely to remain selective, with managers favouring assets where contractual income, debt capacity and governance rights can be assessed without relying on aggressive exit assumptions. Early-commercial managers may find fundraising harder where track records are thin, while established platforms tend to benefit from repeat mandates and specialist asset knowledge. Consolidation pressure has been visible across private markets more broadly, and infrastructure PE is likely to feel the same pull where smaller advisory teams lack distribution, reporting depth or succession capacity.

Key facts

About 6% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (6 of 91 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.

19% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (18 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.

London bases put infrastructure PE teams close to pensions, insurers, banks and public-sector counterparties.

Transport, energy, utilities and social-infrastructure strategies usually involve long-life assets with public procurement or concession exposure.

Fund-management, asset-management and asset-holding structures often sit in separate corporate entities.

Partnership and fund-vehicle structures can make statutory company profiles look small relative to the assets they oversee.

How London Infrastructure PE companies work and how to sell to them

What they do

Infrastructure PE managers usually earn through management fees, carried interest, co-investment economics and, in some cases, advisory or monitoring fees attached to asset-holding vehicles. The commercial offer is not software or a packaged service; it is access to origination, underwriting, debt structuring and governance for long-duration real assets. Mandates are priced around committed capital, asset value, transaction work or retained advisory scope, with success measured through distributions, refinancing capacity and operating resilience. Engagements are therefore high-trust and low-volume, often tied to a fund, platform acquisition or asset-management programme rather than a repeatable monthly purchase.

Who they sell to

Their customers are usually institutional asset owners, fund-of-funds teams, family-office allocators, pension trustees, insurers, infrastructure operators and asset sellers with mandates in transport, energy, utilities, digital infrastructure or social infrastructure. Decision-makers tend to include CIOs, heads of infrastructure, investment committee members, CFOs, portfolio managers and, on asset-side transactions, boards or public-sector counterparties. Sales is usually direct and relationship-led, though fundraising and advisory mandates may be filtered through investment consultants, procurement teams or formal RFPs. Contract values are lumpy rather than transactional, and buying cycles can run through diligence, legal negotiation and committee approval before any mandate is awarded.

What they buy

Most London infrastructure PE firms tend to spend on tools and services that support origination, diligence, fund administration and post-acquisition control. Relevant categories include CRM and deal-flow systems, data rooms, financial modelling support, portfolio monitoring, valuation services, compliance workflows, investor reporting, cyber security, tax advice, audit, legal counsel, debt advisory, market research and recruitment for investment or asset-management roles. Asset-level owners may also need operational technology assessment, facilities advice and specialist engineering diligence, but head-office buyers usually care more about auditability, access control, version history and whether reporting can satisfy investment committees without adding manual work.

Why and how to sell to them

Buying intent often appears around fundraising, a new advisory mandate, an acquisition process, refinancing, a platform build-out, senior finance or investor-relations hiring, or the arrival of new reporting requirements from institutional investors. Pain points tend to sit in the gaps between lean teams and heavy diligence: repeatable reporting, covenant tracking, document control, consultant coordination and evidence that asset-level assumptions still hold after acquisition. Outbound angles work better when they map to those events. A generic efficiency pitch is likely to be ignored; a message tied to a live deal process, lender reporting, investor due diligence or portfolio governance has a clearer route to budget.

How this list is built

Methodology

Data sources

This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.

Classification

Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.

Freshness

The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.

Frequently asked questions

How many Infrastructure PE companies are there in the London?
Around 91 actively-trading Infrastructure PE companies are registered in the London. Of those, 6 report turnover above £5M in their most recent filed accounts.
What counts as a Infrastructure PE company in this list?
A company is included when its public website and filed activity descriptions indicate it sells Infrastructure PE products or services as its primary business — not just because of the SIC code it picked at incorporation. Each company is tagged via semantic analysis of its website content; SIC codes are used as supporting signal, not the sole gate.
Which are the largest Infrastructure PE companies in the London?
The list is ordered by reported UK turnover from each firm's most recent Companies House XBRL filing, so the largest Infrastructure PE companies in the London appear at the top of the table. About 6 of the 91 actively-trading firms report turnover above £5M in their most recent accounts; subsidiaries that file consolidated worldwide accounts are excluded so the figures stay UK-specific.
What do Infrastructure PE companies in the London actually do?
How does London Infrastructure PE compare internationally?
Cross-border comparisons of Infrastructure PE populations are tricky because every country defines the sector slightly differently and reports financials on different cadences. We focus this list on firms that file UK statutory accounts so the figures are comparable; international peer breakdowns aren't bundled here.
How is this list built and how fresh is the data?
The list is rebuilt from Companies House dump data, XBRL filings, and a website analysis pass over each company's public site. Companies with consolidated group accounts (worldwide rather than UK-only revenue) are excluded so the figures stay UK-specific. The page's last-updated date is shown at the top.
How big are the typical Infrastructure PE companies in the London?
Company sizes in this list vary widely. The median actively-trading Infrastructure PE firm employs around 2 people, and median UK turnover across the list is roughly £65k in the most recent filed accounts.
Are these mostly new or established Infrastructure PE companies?
18 of the 91 actively-trading Infrastructure PE companies in this list were incorporated since 2022; the remainder were incorporated before then, so the London list mixes recent entrants with longer-established firms.
What SIC codes does this use?
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, we build a semantic understanding of what each company actually does by scraping its website and analysing it with AI. This means a company is included based on what it sells, not what SIC code it picked at incorporation. SIC codes are used as a signal but not the primary classification.
What buying signals should I look for?
The strongest signals for B2B outbound are recent leadership changes (new CFO/CRO), rapid headcount growth, revenue-band changes, and web-stack changes. Firmbase tracks all of these automatically.
