Insolvency Companies in London: 100+ Active Firms (2026)
Insolvency and restructuring companies in London manage statutory appointments, rescue processes and creditor-led wind-downs across the capital.
Demand tends to originate in three buying centres: company directors seeking rescue advice, lenders protecting secured positions, and creditors or professional advisers pushing for an orderly wind-down. London practices usually sell to owner-managed businesses, mid-market groups and financial-services counterparties rather than consumers, with work routed through accountants, lawyers and banking contacts. Engagements range from short diagnostic advice to appointment-led mandates covering creditor communications, asset realisation and statutory reporting. The commercial centre of gravity is professional services rather than software or balance-sheet risk: firms need licensed practitioners, case administration capacity and the controls to handle regulated appointments.

London has 101 actively trading insolvency and restructuring firms in this list, a compact market by company count but one with specialist regulatory capacity. The employment footprint is visible across the full reporting cohort: 51 of 51 firms report headcount, together accounting for 311 roles. That points to a practitioner-heavy service market rather than a volume employer, with case teams sized around appointments, creditor meetings, compliance reviews and asset recovery work. The limited number of firms above larger turnover thresholds suggests that high-value mandates exist, but much of the market remains in small professional practices.
Statutory appointments give this market a narrower boundary than general turnaround consultancy. GOV.UK states that only a licensed insolvency practitioner can act as liquidator, administrator, administrative receiver, nominee or supervisor of a company voluntary arrangement, or as monitor of a company moratorium. Authorisation sits with recognised professional bodies, while the Insolvency Service oversees the regime in Great Britain for the Secretary of State. The practical effect is that London firms compete on referral trust, practitioner availability and case administration discipline, not just advisory judgement. The Insolvency Act and the Corporate Insolvency and Governance Act frame much of the work.
Growth appears likely to come less from new incorporations and more from caseload mix, referral depth and the ability to staff regulated appointments without losing control of compliance. Smaller practices tend to remain dependent on accountants, lawyers and lender introductions, while larger operators can absorb more complex administrations and creditor-heavy work. Technology may standardise document handling and creditor communication, but the constraint is still licensed judgement. Consolidation is plausible where succession, professional indemnity costs or regulatory supervision make subscale ownership less attractive, though the market is unlikely to behave like a venture-backed services category.

Key facts
About 3% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (4 of 101 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
5% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (6 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Statutory appointments such as liquidator, administrator, administrative receiver and company voluntary arrangement supervisor are reserved to licensed Insolvency Practitioners.
Practitioners are authorised by Recognised Professional Bodies, with the Insolvency Service acting as oversight regulator in Great Britain on behalf of the Secretary of State.
The main statutory frame is the Insolvency Act 1986, with company-rescue measures added under the Corporate Insolvency and Governance Act 2020.
England and Wales recorded 23,872 registered company insolvencies in 2024, 5% lower than 2023 but still near 2008-09 recession levels.
Western European corporate insolvencies rose by 12.2% to 190,449 cases in 2024, while declines were recorded only in Denmark and the United Kingdom.

How London insolvency companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Revenue usually comes from advisory fees before distress becomes formal, then appointment-led work once a liquidation, administration, voluntary arrangement or moratorium is under way. Smaller matters may start with fixed-fee reviews or short director consultations; larger mandates are usually time-costed and linked to case administration, creditor communication, asset realisation and statutory reporting. The service shape is labour-intensive professional work rather than a repeat subscription product. Capacity sits in licensed practitioners, case managers and back-office controls, with margin affected by recoverable fees, case complexity, document volume and the speed at which assets can be identified, secured and realised.
Who they sell to
Buyers are usually company directors, finance directors, lenders, creditors and the advisers around them. Accountants and lawyers often act as the route into a mandate, so referral trust can matter as much as direct prospecting. Distressed situations shorten the sales cycle: some engagements move from first conversation to appointment within days, while lender-led or creditor-heavy matters can require panel checks, conflict reviews and formal approval. Most purchasing is relationship-led rather than self-serve. Decision-makers tend to care about practitioner availability, sector familiarity, fee recovery, creditor handling and whether the firm can manage a difficult process without creating further regulatory or reputational risk.
What they buy
Most insolvency practices tend to spend on tools and services that reduce case administration friction. Common categories include case-management software, secure document storage, creditor-communication systems, time recording, billing, compliance workflow, identity checks, audit trails and management reporting. Marketing spend is usually referral-oriented, with search visibility and professional-network content supporting accountant, lawyer and lender introductions. They may also buy legal support, valuation services, asset disposal support, forensic accounting, cyber security, professional indemnity advice, recruitment and training. For larger practices, integration between finance, document handling and statutory reporting is often more persuasive than generic productivity claims.
Why and how to sell to them
Insolvency buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when caseloads rise, new licensed practitioners join, case teams are added, or compliance pressure makes manual administration harder to defend. Succession planning, consolidation and professional indemnity cost reviews can also prompt supplier changes. Outbound works better when it is framed around appointment control, recoverable time, creditor transparency, audit evidence and fewer hand-offs between advisers, rather than broad efficiency language. Useful signals include new restructuring hires, expanded creditor-services capacity, lender-panel activity, website changes around company rescue work, and visible emphasis on administrations or voluntary arrangements rather than only routine liquidations.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
