IoT Devices Companies in the UK: 700+ Active Firms (2026)
IoT device companies in the UK design, manufacture or distribute internet- and network-connectable products under the UK product-security regime.
Buying centres tend to split between operations teams looking for monitoring and control equipment, IT and security teams responsible for device fleets, and product teams embedding connectivity into physical goods. Customer types run from consumer distributors to commercial and industrial buyers, so sales motions vary from channel-led hardware supply to project-based deployments with recurring software or data-service fees. Typical engagements start with evaluated units or a site trial, then move into fleet management, firmware support and service-level commitments. Better-qualified suppliers combine hardware accountability with software maintenance, rather than treating connectivity as an add-on.

The UK cohort has 768 active trading companies, a small enough population for sector screens to be shaped by product scope and regulatory status rather than by software labels alone. Scale is uneven: 73 companies report turnover above £5M, while 57 were incorporated since 2022. Reported employment totals 2,070 people across 126 firms, so headcount visibility sits with a subset more likely to include established manufacturers, distributors and device-management specialists. That mix points to a market where hardware margins and recurring service income often need to be read together.
Consumer connectable products sit under the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act and security requirements regulations, enforced by the Office for Product Safety and Standards. Duties attach not only to manufacturers but also to importers and distributors, which matters in a market where hardware design, firmware, cloud management and channel distribution often sit in separate entities. Password design, vulnerability reporting and security-update disclosure are now baseline compliance questions. Manufacturers need a Statement of Compliance; importers and distributors must check that it accompanies relevant products before placing them on the UK market.
Commercial momentum appears to favour firms that can package hardware with device management, security updates and recurring monitoring services. Retail-facing suppliers tend to carry more visible compliance risk, while industrial vendors face longer sales cycles and integration work. Scale-up scarcity may keep acquisition interest focused on product lines with installed fleets, certification history and channel access, rather than on narrow device launches. The cohort may therefore consolidate around platform operators and specialist distributors, with small design houses remaining useful but exposed to margin pressure.

Key facts
About 9% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (73 of 768 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
7% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (57 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Consumer connectable products have been under the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act 2022 and the 2023 security requirements regulations since 29 April 2024.
Manufacturers, importers and distributors share duties across passwords, vulnerability reporting, minimum security-update information and Statements of Compliance.
Enforcement sits with the Office for Product Safety and Standards under the UK product-security regime.
GOV.UK expected the UK IoT market to reach £24.74 billion by the end of 2024.
OECD digital-economy reporting puts IoT adoption among firms at an average of 27% across measured economies, ranging from 6% to 53%.

How UK IoT devices companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
IoT-device firms usually earn from a blend of hardware margin, deployment services and recurring software fees. Revenue may start with sensors, gateways, controls or embedded modules, then continue through device-management subscriptions, monitoring dashboards, firmware maintenance, data access and support contracts. Consumer-oriented firms often rely on distributors and channel margin, while commercial and industrial suppliers are more likely to price around a site, fleet or project. The commercial model is therefore not pure hardware or pure software: buyers often expect device accountability, update commitments and support capacity to sit with the same supplier.
Who they sell to
Most sell into operations, IT, security and product teams, with procurement involved once devices move beyond trial units. Commercial buyers tend to include operations directors, facilities leads, CTOs, heads of security, engineering managers and product leads embedding connectivity into their own equipment. Smaller customers may buy through resellers or direct sales after a short pilot; larger commercial, industrial and public-sector buyers typically require technical evaluation, security review and procurement sign-off. Contract size varies with the number of sites, connected units and support obligations, so sales cycles often lengthen when integration work or service-level terms matter.
What they buy
Most IoT-device firms tend to spend on embedded engineering, firmware testing, cloud hosting, connectivity, device-management tooling, security assessment and customer support operations. Firms with channel sales also need CRM, partner management, billing, returns handling and product-documentation systems. Compliance work creates demand for legal advice, product-security audits, vulnerability-reporting processes and technical writing around update periods and user guidance. As fleets grow, spending shifts towards observability, remote diagnostics, data pipelines, identity and access management, and field-service coordination. Recruitment support is usually most relevant where firms need firmware, hardware, cloud and security skills in the same team.
Why and how to sell to them
IoT-device buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when a pilot turns into an installed fleet, a product moves into retail distribution, or a commercial customer asks harder questions about support, uptime and security updates. Product-security duties also give sellers a clear reason to discuss audit trails, password design, vulnerability handling and update disclosure. Margin pressure is another practical angle: fewer site visits, lower return rates and clearer support workflows matter when hardware issues turn into service costs. Outbound messages usually land better when tied to fleet growth, new channel activity, procurement readiness or the operational burden of maintaining connected devices after shipment.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
