Electronics Companies in the UK: 2,400+ Active Firms (2026)
Electronics manufacturers design and assemble electronic equipment and components for specialised, regulated UK supply chains.
Buying centres tend to sit with engineering, operations and supply-chain teams, with procurement and quality functions involved once products move from prototype into repeat production. Customers are usually business, industrial or regulated-market buyers rather than consumers: equipment makers, infrastructure suppliers and specialist distributors needing embedded hardware, assemblies or components that can pass conformity checks. Engagements are often qualified-supplier relationships, with documentation, labelling, traceability and technical support built into the sale. That makes the category closer to engineered production than commodity resale, even where volumes are modest.

Around 2,476 electronics manufacturers are actively trading in the UK, giving the page a sizeable but fairly specialised cohort rather than a mass manufacturing universe. Within that group, 389 companies report turnover above £5M, while 209 were incorporated since 2022, pointing to a base that is more weighted toward established operators than new incorporations. Employment reporting covers 123 firms, and those firms together account for 6,313 reported employees. The footprint therefore includes a visible engineering and production workforce, although many businesses remain below the scale normally associated with large plant networks.
Product access is shaped by rulebooks rather than by a sector-wide licence. In-scope electrical and electronic equipment needs technical documentation, a Declaration of Conformity, required labelling and the relevant conformity marking, with OPSS enforcing hazardous-substance restrictions. Wider regimes can also apply where equipment raises electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility or radio equipment issues. Waste obligations add another layer: organisations placing electrical and electronic equipment on the UK market must register as producers, with smaller producers registering directly and higher-volume producers joining a compliance scheme.
Commercial development appears to depend less on consumer electronics cycles and more on the depth of industrial qualification, design-in relationships and regulatory upkeep. The cohort tends to reward firms that can combine engineering support with repeatable assembly, because customers in regulated supply chains are slow to switch once a component or sub-assembly is approved. New entrants may still find openings around embedded hardware and specialist equipment, but scale-up paths look comparatively patient. Consolidation is likely to be buyer-led where larger manufacturers want certified capacity, traceable suppliers or adjacent technical capabilities.

Key facts
About 15% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (389 of 2,476 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
8% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (209 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
UK electronics manufacturers face product-safety, environmental and market-access rules rather than a single sector licence.
In-scope electrical and electronic equipment needs technical documentation, a Declaration of Conformity, required labelling and the relevant conformity marking under the 2012 hazardous-substances rules enforced by OPSS.
UK electronics value added rose from £4.1 billion in 2000 to £16.1 billion in 2024, a 5.8% CAGR compared with 1.6% for UK manufacturing overall.
Electronics and electrical equipment together represent 10% of UK manufacturing value added and 13% of UK manufacturing exports, alongside trade deficits of £29 billion for electronics and £16 billion for electrical equipment.
The UK ranked fifth among the G7 plus China by 2022 electronics value added, at US$18 billion, behind China, the USA, Japan and Germany.

How UK electronics companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Electronics manufacturers usually earn revenue through a blend of design engineering, prototyping, assembly and repeat production. Early work is often charged as non-recurring engineering, test development or tooling, with later revenue coming from unit pricing, batch manufacture, spares, repairs or lifecycle support. Margins depend on bill-of-material control, component availability, yield and how much technical responsibility the manufacturer retains. Some firms act as build-to-print suppliers, while others own more of the design, firmware, enclosure or test process. The commercial model is therefore part product sale, part engineering service, and part supply-chain management.
Who they sell to
Typical customers are original equipment manufacturers, industrial equipment suppliers, infrastructure contractors, specialist distributors and regulated-market product teams. Engineering and product managers usually shape the specification, while operations, quality and procurement teams scrutinise manufacturability, supplier risk, documentation and continuity of supply. Prototype orders may start through direct technical conversations, but repeat production tends to move into approved-supplier lists, framework agreements or formal tendering. Sales cycles are often longer than in software because the supplier may be designed into the customer’s product, tested against conformity requirements and then kept in place to avoid requalification work.
What they buy
Most electronics firms tend to spend on systems and services that protect margin, traceability and delivery reliability. Relevant categories include enterprise resource planning, material requirements planning, product lifecycle management, quality management, document control, component database management, production scheduling and test automation. Many also buy compliance advice, certification support, calibration, specialist recruitment, electronics design services, contract labour, logistics, insurance, cyber security and accountancy support for inventory-heavy operations. Suppliers with shopfloor, engineering or supply-chain use cases usually need to show how their offer fits small-batch production, design change control and audit evidence, not just office workflow.
Why and how to sell to them
Electronics buyers tend to evaluate vendors when prototype work turns into repeat production, component shortages expose manual processes, a quality audit creates remediation work, or a new product line brings fresh conformity obligations. Other triggers include a change in operations leadership, a move to outsourced assembly, growth in export activity or pressure to reduce rework and excess stock. Outbound messages usually land better when they name a specific operational constraint: shortening quote-to-build cycles, keeping technical files current, improving supplier visibility, reducing scrap, or making quality records easier to defend during customer and regulatory checks.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
