Electronics Companies in London: 300+ Active Firms (2026)
Electronics manufacturers design, assemble and test electronic equipment and components for regulated UK markets from London bases.
Buying centres tend to sit with engineering, operations, quality and procurement teams rather than a single software-style budget holder. Customer types range from industrial equipment makers and infrastructure suppliers to medical, communications and specialist consumer-product businesses, usually on B2B terms. Engagements are often project-led at the start: design-for-manufacture input, prototype assembly, certification preparation, test work and low-volume production runs. Longer relationships tend to move into repeat builds, component supply or outsourced assembly, with purchase decisions shaped by traceability, documentation discipline, lead times and the buyer’s tolerance for supply-chain risk.

London has 301 electronics manufacturers actively trading, with 2,504 people in reported headcount. The city’s cohort is therefore visible, but not a mass-volume manufacturing base; it reads more like a set of specialist engineering, assembly and testing businesses serving buyers that need proximity to product development, regulated sales channels or technical procurement teams. The capital also gives these firms access to industrial, communications, medical and infrastructure customers, although production work itself tends to be judged on documentation, repeatability and delivery reliability rather than location alone.
Regulation is activity-based rather than built around a single sector licence. Electrical and electronic equipment can bring restrictions on hazardous substances, conformity documentation, declarations, labelling and conformity marking into the manufacturing process, with OPSS enforcement. Depending on the product, firms may also have to work through electrical equipment safety, electromagnetic compatibility and radio equipment regimes. Waste responsibilities sit alongside market access: producers placing EEE on the UK market register annually, with the registration route depending on the quantity placed on the market. For London manufacturers, the practical burden tends to sit in documentation, supplier assurance and role clarity across design, assembly, testing and placing products on the market.
Buyer scrutiny appears unlikely to ease, particularly where electronics sit inside regulated equipment, infrastructure or communications systems. The London cohort tends to suit smaller-batch, engineering-led work where technical assurance matters as much as unit cost, rather than commodity production. Scale-up paths may remain uneven: some firms can deepen customer relationships through repeat assembly and test programmes, while others stay tied to project cycles and component availability. Compliance work also favours businesses with disciplined documentation and supplier control, so consolidation may come through capability gaps as much as through demand expansion.

Key facts
About 14% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (45 of 301 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
19% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (59 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
In-scope electrical and electronic equipment under the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2012 needs technical documentation, a Declaration of Conformity, required labelling and the relevant conformity marking, with OPSS enforcing the rules.
Organisations placing more than 5 tonnes of EEE on the UK market must join a producer compliance scheme; those below 5 tonnes can register annually as small producers.
The UK electronics sector reached £16.1 billion of value added in 2024, up from £4.1 billion in 2000.
Electronics and electrical equipment together account for 10% of UK manufacturing value added and 13% of UK manufacturing exports.
By 2022 value added, UK electronics ranked fifth among the G7 plus China, behind China, the USA, Japan and Germany.

How London electronics companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Electronics firms usually earn from a mix of engineering service fees, non-recurring design work, prototype builds, test work and production margin. Early jobs are often quoted as fixed-price projects, with bill-of-materials costs passed through separately or bundled into a prototype price. Repeat work tends to move to per-unit pricing, framework purchase orders or cost-plus arrangements where component pricing is volatile. Some firms also sell specialist modules, assemblies or test fixtures as physical goods, with revenue tied to production batches rather than pure licence or subscription models.
Who they sell to
Most sell to engineering-led organisations rather than consumer buyers: original-equipment manufacturers, regulated equipment makers, infrastructure suppliers, communications businesses and specialist product teams inside larger groups. The first conversation often sits with a head of engineering, CTO or operations lead, before quality, procurement and finance test the supplier risk. Smaller engagements may be bought directly by project teams; production contracts usually need supplier onboarding, documentation review and purchase-order discipline. Sales cycles can be short for urgent prototype or fault-finding work, but stretch over months when qualification, certification evidence or approved-supplier status is required.
What they buy
Most electronics manufacturers tend to spend on tools that make engineering and production control less manual: electronic design automation, product lifecycle management, ERP or MRP, quality management, inventory planning, traceability, document control and calibration scheduling. Cyber security, cloud storage, back-up, accounting and CRM are relevant, but usually have to fit around production workflows rather than dominate them. Services budgets often go to compliance advice, product-safety testing, contract manufacturing support, component sourcing, freight, specialist recruitment, insurance, tax, audit and grant-writing where firms are funding new equipment or product development.
Why and how to sell to them
Electronics buyers tend to evaluate new suppliers when lead times lengthen, parts become hard to source, rework rises, a customer asks for better traceability, or a project moves from prototype into repeat production. New operations or quality hires can also reopen vendor choices, especially in London firms trying to formalise processes without losing engineering flexibility. Outbound messaging usually lands better when it names the operational failure being reduced: fewer late builds, cleaner audit trails, lower scrap, faster quoting or clearer supplier risk. Generic productivity claims are easier to ignore.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
