RegTech Companies in the UK: 200+ Active Firms (2026)
RegTech companies build compliance technology for regulated financial services in the UK, shaped by FCA priorities in AI, financial crime and digital ID.
Buying centres tend to sit in compliance, risk, financial-crime operations and product-governance teams, with finance and audit functions often involved once reporting evidence or controls assurance enters the sale. Buyers are regulated financial-services organisations, so procurement tends to look like departmental or enterprise software buying rather than casual self-serve adoption. The product set splits between workflow automation, monitoring, digital identity, open-finance controls, AI-assisted review and audit evidence. Scaleup and mid-market vendors are the natural centre of gravity, selling subscription platforms and implementation support into teams that need traceability, permissions and defensible change management.

The UK has 223 actively trading RegTech companies, making the segment relatively small beside broader financial-services software but still visible as a specialist compliance category. Within that cohort, 31 companies report turnover above £5M, while 33 were incorporated since 2022, suggesting a mix of revenue-proven suppliers and newer entrants aligned to current supervisory priorities. Together, firms reporting headcount employ 1,904 people, which points to a market made up mainly of specialist software teams rather than labour-heavy advisory businesses.
Financial-services compliance, rather than a dedicated licence class, sets the boundary for most RegTech activity. The FCA describes the field as technologies developed to help overcome regulatory challenges in financial services, and frames its engagement around AI for regulatory obligations, financial crime, financial inclusion, digital ID and open finance. Innovate Finance, through its RegTech programme, presents the UK trade association role as helping firms deliver regulatory requirements more efficiently than existing capabilities. Market structure therefore tends to follow supervisory focus, rule changes and compliance-cost pressure, rather than a unified authorisation regime for RegTech suppliers themselves.
Further development appears tied to the practical burden of compliance operations: evidence gathering, monitoring, identity checks and explainable use of AI inside regulated workflows. The cohort still looks skewed towards early-commercial specialists, while the smaller revenue-proven group should have an advantage where buyers want procurement assurance and continuity. Consolidation may come from customers rationalising overlapping point tools, or from software vendors adding financial-crime, audit and reporting modules around an existing compliance workflow. Adoption tends to move at the pace of regulated buyers, so sales cycles are likely to remain careful rather than impulsive.

Key facts
About 13% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (31 of 223 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
14% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (33 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
RegTech is not a single licensed activity; the FCA defines it as “new technologies developed to help overcome regulatory challenges in financial services”.
The FCA’s 2024/25 engagement priorities include AI for regulatory obligations, financial crime, financial inclusion and digital ID, and open finance.
Financial-crime compliance spend across UK financial services was £34.2 billion per annum in 2022, up 19% from £28.7 billion in 2020.
The FCA runs an Innovation Hub, TechSprints and a Permanent Digital Sandbox for firms working with compliance-related technology.

How UK RegTech companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Most RegTech suppliers earn revenue through annual software subscriptions, usually with implementation, configuration and support charged alongside the licence. Pricing often follows regulated entities, users, monitored transactions, identity checks, policies, workflows or reporting modules, depending on whether the product sits in financial crime, risk management, governance or regulatory reporting. The service shape is usually cloud software with integrations into customer systems, plus enough advisory and onboarding work to map rules, controls and evidence trails. Smaller vendors may still sell pilots or departmental deployments, while more mature firms try to move towards multi-year contracts tied to operational risk and compliance budgets.
Who they sell to
Typical customers are banks, lenders, insurers, payments firms, wealth managers, asset managers and financial-services software providers that need to evidence controls to boards, auditors and regulators. Decision-makers tend to include chief compliance officers, heads of financial crime, MLROs, risk directors, CTOs, product leaders and internal audit teams, with procurement and legal joining once information security and liability are tested. Smaller deals may start through direct sales into one compliance function; larger institutions usually require vendor due diligence, security review, pilot evidence and sometimes an RFP. Sales cycles are often measured in months, because the buyer is purchasing operational trust as much as software.
What they buy
Most RegTech firms tend to spend on cloud hosting, data infrastructure, information security, observability, customer support tooling, CRM, billing, analytics and product-management software. Vendors handling identity, monitoring or reporting workflows also buy data feeds, integration tooling, testing services, penetration testing, legal advice and assurance support, because customer diligence commonly asks for evidence before contracts move. Hiring spend is often concentrated in product engineering, compliance subject-matter expertise, implementation, customer success and enterprise sales. Marketing budgets are usually more targeted than broad consumer acquisition, with account-based campaigns, events, analyst relations and technical content used to reach risk and compliance buyers inside regulated institutions.
Why and how to sell to them
RegTech firms tend to evaluate suppliers when enterprise demand starts to expose gaps in security evidence, implementation capacity, uptime monitoring, sales operations or product governance. Funding, senior hires, entry into a new regulated vertical, a new AI-assisted workflow, or a change in FCA emphasis can all create a buying window. Outbound works better when it recognises the drag caused by procurement questionnaires, audit trails and integration work, rather than pitching generic growth. Useful angles include shortening due-diligence cycles, producing cleaner customer evidence, reducing manual onboarding effort, supporting model oversight, or helping regulated customers prove who changed what, when and why.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
