SecOps Companies in the UK: 525 Active Firms (2026)
Security operations companies detect, investigate and respond to cyber threats for UK organisations across regulated and digital sectors.
Buying centres tend to sit with security, risk and technology teams rather than a single software owner. Enterprise and public-sector customers usually procure through formal assurance processes; mid-market buyers often look for a managed capability where hiring a full internal function is uneconomic. Engagements are typically recurring retainers, platform subscriptions or hybrid managed-service contracts, with onboarding work around telemetry, alert handling and reporting. The sales motion is consultative: buyers test response quality, analyst coverage, integration with cloud, endpoint and network estates, and evidence that recurring service can reduce operational load without losing control of security decisions.

The UK cohort contains 525 actively trading SecOps companies. Reported headcount totals 2,009, with all 121 reporting firms giving a headcount. The revenue profile is more concentrated than the company count suggests: 67 companies report turnover above £5M, leaving most below that scale threshold. New entry is present but not dominant, with 40 companies incorporated since 2022. That mix points to a market with many specialist operators, a smaller revenue-scaled layer, and employment that is visible mainly among firms large enough to report staff numbers consistently.
Cyber-security work sits inside buyers’ existing obligations around operational resilience, incident governance, procurement assurance and personal-data handling, so sales cycles often involve risk, legal and technology stakeholders. For suppliers, the main market-structure issue is trust: access to logs, endpoints and network telemetry makes due diligence material to the contract, not a procurement afterthought. Public-sector work tends to add clearance expectations, assurance evidence and audit trails. Regulated private-sector buyers usually ask for escalation processes, retention periods, breach-reporting workflows and subcontractor controls before service commencement.
Early-commercial suppliers appear to remain numerous, while scale-up scarcity gives larger managed-service operators room to bundle monitoring, response, vulnerability triage and board-level reporting. Buyers tend to prefer tighter supplier groups as alert volumes and cloud estates spread across teams, which favours providers able to prove process discipline rather than just tooling depth. Consolidation may continue where smaller technical teams have credible analysts but limited sales reach. Pressure from regulated customers is likely to keep documentation, incident evidence and service-level governance near the centre of the offer.

Key facts
About 12% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (67 of 525 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
7% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (40 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Security operations providers usually sit between internal IT teams and outsourced security providers.
Buyer demand tends to centre on recurring threat monitoring and faster incident response, particularly in regulated and digital sectors.
The segment mixes people-heavy monitoring and response providers with leaner advisory or platform-led businesses.
Some security teams operate inside wider digital-service groups, so the sector boundary includes service-line businesses as well as standalone specialists.

How UK SecOps companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
SecOps companies earn money by taking on part of a customer’s operational security workload, usually as a recurring service rather than a one-off software sale. Revenue commonly comes from managed monitoring, detection engineering, incident-response retainers, vulnerability triage, reporting portals and advisory work around process design. Pricing tends to be tiered by monitored asset, user, log volume, analyst coverage or service scope, with separate fees for onboarding and urgent response. Smaller engagements may start as a narrow monitoring or assessment brief; larger accounts often bundle tooling, analyst time and governance reporting into an annual contract.
Who they sell to
Customers are usually organisations where security risk is material but internal coverage is hard to staff: mid-market technology, financial-services, healthcare, retail, infrastructure and public-sector buyers, plus enterprises rationalising internal security tooling. The economic buyer is often the CISO, CIO or CTO, with procurement, legal, risk and data-protection teams shaping the contract. Technical evaluators look at telemetry access, escalation paths, false-positive handling and evidence quality. Most deals are sold through direct consultative sales, partner introductions or formal RFP processes. Self-serve buying is less common, because buyers want assurance that the service will fit their operating model before live incidents occur.
What they buy
Most SecOps firms tend to spend on the systems that keep analyst workflows repeatable: log management, cloud hosting, endpoint and network telemetry, case management, ticketing, identity controls, knowledge bases and secure communications. As they professionalise sales, they also buy customer relationship management, quoting, billing, contract management and service-desk tooling that can reflect retained-service scope and service-level commitments. Common services include specialist recruitment, security clearance support where public-sector work is targeted, legal review of liability clauses, cyber-insurance advice, account-based marketing and technical content. Training budgets usually sit close to delivery, because analyst quality is part of the product being sold.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying intent tends to appear when a SecOps provider wins larger regulated accounts, extends coverage beyond office hours, adds a managed detection line, or needs to prove repeatable delivery across more customer environments. Pain points are usually operational rather than abstract: analyst hiring, alert volumes, log-storage costs, hand-offs between support and response, and evidence demanded by procurement teams. Sellers should usually avoid generic cyber-risk messaging and tie the case to margin, auditability and delivery control. Useful angles include reducing manual triage, shortening onboarding, making board reports easier to produce, or helping sales teams answer assurance questionnaires without pulling analysts away from live work.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
