Streaming & OTT Companies in the UK: 200+ Active Firms (2026)
Streaming and OTT companies in the UK distribute video, audio or live media over internet-connected platforms for consumers and businesses.
Buying centres cluster around media operations, revenue tooling and distribution infrastructure rather than a single IT budget. Buyers tend to include consumer media publishers, rights holders, live-event operators and B2B platforms that need internet delivery for video, audio or on-demand libraries. Engagements are usually mid-market in feel: platform fees, managed distribution contracts, content-licensing arrangements, audience analytics subscriptions and monetisation tooling, often sold to commercial, product or technical teams rather than only to procurement.

Across the UK, 219 streaming and OTT businesses are actively trading, a compact cohort where service operators, content monetisation firms and distribution-technology suppliers sit together. Reported employment totals 1,167 people across the cohort, so the footprint is not just founder-led micro-businesses. Headcount appears more visible among operators handling managed distribution, audience analytics, rights workflows or monetisation operations, where customer support and technical delivery sit close to the commercial model.
Consumer-facing media services have to manage rights clearance, content classification, advertising practice, privacy obligations and payment operations alongside the mechanics of delivery. The split between owned services and suppliers matters. A platform that commissions or packages content carries a different risk profile from a vendor selling encoding, audience measurement or delivery infrastructure. For UK-facing propositions, contractual control over usage rights, takedown processes, customer billing and service availability tends to shape commercial diligence as much as pure technology assessment.
The cohort appears likely to keep separating into two camps: specialist infrastructure suppliers serving other media businesses, and service operators competing for audience attention and recurring revenue. Scale-up scarcity may push some operators towards licensing, white-label distribution or partnerships rather than standalone consumer brands. Regulatory and rights pressure also tends to favour firms with clear controls around content use, customer billing and audience measurement. Consolidation looks plausible where smaller tools solve adjacent workflow problems for the same buyer.

Key facts
About 5% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (13 of 219 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
7% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (17 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Streaming and OTT operators distribute video, audio and live media over internet-connected platforms for consumer and business audiences.
The segment cuts across media rights, platform software, content delivery and audience monetisation rather than sitting neatly within traditional broadcasting.
Operating models vary between rights ownership, production-heavy distribution and asset-light technology delivery.

How UK streaming & OTT companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Streaming and OTT businesses typically earn from a mix of subscriptions, advertising, pay-per-view access, content licensing, platform fees and managed delivery services. Some operate consumer-facing services; others sit behind those services as software, workflow or infrastructure suppliers. Pricing often combines a base platform fee with usage-linked charges for storage, encoding, bandwidth, seats, events or audience volume. Services work is common where rights migration, content ingest, player design or analytics set-up needs implementation support. Gross margin can be sensitive to content costs, delivery volume and support load, so vendors are often assessed on cost control as well as audience experience.
Who they sell to
Most sell to consumer media publishers, rights holders, live-event operators and B2B platforms that need internet delivery for video, audio or on-demand libraries. Buyer groups tend to include product leaders, CTOs, heads of media operations, commercial directors and finance teams where billing or revenue share is involved. Lower-friction tools may be bought through self-serve trials or direct sales, while larger distribution, monetisation and rights-workflow contracts usually pass through technical testing, legal review and procurement. Enterprise-style RFPs appear where service availability, data protection, content security or audience measurement affects a customer’s own revenue model.
What they buy
Most streaming and OTT firms tend to spend on cloud infrastructure, content delivery network capacity, encoding, storage, monitoring, security, identity, billing and payment operations. Revenue teams often need CRM, subscription management, advertising operations, audience analytics, attribution and customer support tooling. Operational teams buy rights management, content workflow, metadata management, localisation, subtitling, quality assurance and incident response support. Legal, accounting and tax advice can matter where usage rights, revenue share, consumer payments or overseas viewers are involved. Recruitment demand is usually concentrated around product, engineering, media operations, commercial partnerships and customer success rather than large field-sales teams.
Why and how to sell to them
Streaming and OTT buyers tend to evaluate vendors when content volume rises, a new service or event goes live, legacy workflow starts constraining delivery, or revenue teams need better conversion, retention or ad yield. Common pain points include churn, unpredictable bandwidth costs, rights complexity, payment failures, audience measurement gaps and service interruptions during peak viewing. Outbound usually works better when it ties the pitch to a commercial trigger rather than a generic technology claim. Useful angles include lowering delivery cost per stream, reducing manual content operations, improving billing recovery, tightening rights controls, or giving product and commercial teams clearer evidence on which audiences and content formats pay back.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
