Telecoms Infrastructure Companies in the UK: 3,000+ Active Firms (2026)
Telecoms infrastructure companies in the UK build, maintain and operate network assets that support fixed, mobile and data connectivity.
Buying activity tends to sit with network planning, operations, procurement and estate teams rather than with a single software-style buyer. The main centres of demand are fibre build and upgrade programmes, wireless site work, network construction, field maintenance and managed infrastructure operations. Customers are usually communications providers, infrastructure owners, enterprise estates and public-sector bodies, with engagements ranging from specialist surveys and installation packages to regional maintenance frameworks and outsourced build operations. Procurement is therefore more project- and service-led than product-led, with evidence of field capacity, accreditations, coverage and safety processes often carrying as much weight as price.
Across the UK, 3,028 telecoms infrastructure companies are actively trading, making this a sizeable but not especially broad industrial-services cohort. The commercial centre of gravity appears to sit below national network-operator scale: 126 companies have more than £5M in turnover, while 566 have been incorporated since 2022, leaving a long tail of younger contractors, installers and managed-service specialists. Reported employment totals 2,906 people, which points to a visible workforce footprint but also to a market where subcontracting, project teams and regional delivery capacity are likely to matter when interpreting company scale.
Network-build work sits at the intersection of telecoms policy, civil engineering and property access. For researchers, the useful distinction is between firms that own or operate connectivity assets and those that provide construction, installation or maintenance services to asset owners. The former carry more exposure to service continuity, access terms and commercial regulation; the latter are shaped more by permits, street works, wayleaves, health and safety requirements and subcontractor control. Public-sector and enterprise work can add procurement scrutiny, particularly where connectivity supports critical sites or long-lived estate programmes.
Future activity appears likely to be shaped by replacement cycles, infill work and maintenance obligations as much as by new network construction. The cohort has a clear contractor and services bias, so margin pressure may persist where work is won through framework pricing and labour availability rather than asset ownership. Smaller specialists tend to remain dependent on regional access, certification and field teams; scaled operators may look to consolidate delivery capability where customer contracts require national coverage. The market therefore looks less like a pure technology category and more like an infrastructure services market with selective asset-led upside.

Key facts
About 4% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (126 of 3,028 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
18% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (566 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Network availability depends on engineering, operations and maintenance capacity as well as customer-facing telecoms activity.
Business models split between labour-heavy field-service contractors and asset-holding, subcontracting or project-management operators.
Accounts can reflect ownership structure, subcontracting and project mix as much as the amount of network work handled.

How UK telecoms infrastructure companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Telecoms infrastructure firms earn revenue through a mix of project delivery, recurring maintenance, asset access and managed operations. Contractors are usually paid against survey, build, installation or repair milestones, with some work priced on day rates, call-out schedules or retained service levels. Asset-led operators tend to earn from access fees, wholesale capacity, site rental or long-term service agreements. The offer is usually physical and operational rather than purely digital: duct, fibre, masts, cabinets, cabling, power, field labour, test equipment and network monitoring. Pricing is shaped by geography, permits, materials, subcontractor capacity and the cost of keeping trained engineers available between jobs.
Who they sell to
Most sell to communications providers, infrastructure owners, public-sector estates, enterprise property teams and larger contractors that need delivery partners. The buying group typically includes network planners, operations directors, procurement managers, estates teams, finance reviewers and health and safety leads. Smaller jobs can be bought through direct quotation or preferred-supplier relationships, while regional build, maintenance and managed-service work usually moves through tenders, framework agreements or RFP processes. Sales cycles vary by risk: urgent repair and survey work may move quickly, but site programmes and public-sector contracts tend to require accreditations, insurance checks, mobilisation plans and evidence that field teams can cover the required geography.
What they buy
Most telecoms infrastructure firms tend to spend on tools and services that help them plan work, manage dispersed teams and prove delivery. Common categories include network inventory, GIS mapping, project controls, field service management, workforce scheduling, fleet management, job costing, procurement, subcontractor onboarding, document management and compliance systems. Finance, payroll, HR, recruitment and training services also matter because labour availability and certification shape delivery capacity. More technical buyers may need cloud hosting, cyber security, monitoring, data integration and analytics around asset performance or service levels. Non-software spend can include plant hire, vehicles, safety equipment, test equipment, legal support for wayleaves and insurance advice.
Why and how to sell to them
Telecoms infrastructure buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when a new build programme is won, a maintenance framework expands, a regional team is added, or operational control becomes too fragmented for spreadsheets and email. Common pain points include permit delays, poor job visibility, subcontractor risk, rework, safety evidence, slow invoicing and margin leakage between quote and completion. Outbound works better when it speaks to field utilisation, audit trails, mobilisation speed, fewer missed visits and clearer proof of compliance. Generic technology claims usually land less well than evidence that the offer can fit around site work, procurement controls and the practical constraints of field engineering.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
