Textiles Companies in Leeds: 300+ Active Firms (2026)
Textiles companies in Leeds manufacture fabrics, garments and sewn goods for consumer, industrial and trade buyers across the city region.
Buying centres tend to sit in retail sourcing, brand-owner production, industrial procurement and trade distribution, with purchase decisions shaped by consistency, lead times, finishing capability and compliance documentation. The customer base is mostly B2B: wholesalers, apparel brands, interiors suppliers, workwear buyers and manufacturers needing specialist cutting, sewing or processing capacity. Engagements usually look like repeat production runs, private-label supply, subcontracted finishing or assembly, rather than one-off craft commissions. Owner-managed workshops can still fit the buyer shape where they handle trade work and keep control of fibre descriptions, labelling and product claims.
Leeds has 315 textiles companies actively trading, with activity spanning established manufacturers, specialist processors and smaller workshops. Reported headcount across the cohort totals 2,803 people, pointing to an employment base spread across production, finishing, assembly and back-office functions. The revenue distribution is uneven: 41 firms report turnover above £5M, while 62 were incorporated since 2022. That mix gives the city region both longer-running manufacturers and newer workshops serving brand owners, wholesalers and trade customers.
Compliance sits closer to trading standards than to a sector licence. Textile Products labelling and fibre-composition rules put responsibility on the manufacturer or UK importer to ensure fibre-content labels are present, in English, durable, legible, visible and accessible. Only prescribed fibre names may be used, and goods containing fur, leather, bone or other non-textile animal-origin parts need the phrase "contains non-textile parts of animal origin". Misleading descriptions and omissions also fall within the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act, while UKFT provides trade-body coverage for the wider fashion and textile supply chain.
Leeds textiles appears likely to remain a mixed manufacturing base rather than a single scale-up story. Contract work tends to favour firms that can document fibre content, hold tolerances across repeat batches and deal with shorter replenishment cycles for brand owners and wholesalers. Newer entrants may find niches in specialist processing or localised production, but access to machinery, skilled machinists and reliable trade demand can keep many at workshop scale. Consolidation, where it happens, is more likely to follow customer relationships and production capability than a pure software-style growth pattern.

Key facts
About 13% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (41 of 315 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
19% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (62 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Textile and apparel manufacturing is governed mainly through product-labelling, product-description and consumer-protection rules rather than a single sector licence.
The Textile Products (Labelling and Fibre Composition) Regulations 2012 require fibre-content labels to be in English, durable, legible, visible and accessible.
Part 4, Chapter 1 of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 covers misleading product descriptions and omissions.
UKFT puts the UK fashion and textile industry at £62 billion of economic contribution, 1.3 million jobs and more than £23 billion in tax revenues.
WRAP records 1.42 million tonnes of new textile products consumed in the UK in 2022 and 1.45 million tonnes of used textiles generated in the same year.

How Leeds textiles companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Leeds textile firms usually earn from production capacity rather than intellectual property: cut-and-sew runs, fabric conversion, finishing, embroidery, workwear assembly, technical textile processing and private-label supply. Revenue tends to be order-based, with repeat trade accounts, framework-style supply arrangements or quoted batches tied to material specification, labour time, minimum order quantities and finishing requirements. Margins often sit in control of wastage, machine utilisation and rework, so delivery reliability matters as much as headline unit price. Some workshops add services around sampling, pattern adjustment, labelling, packing and fulfilment, but most commercial value still comes from turning supplied or procured materials into consistent trade-ready goods.
Who they sell to
Typical buyers are wholesalers, clothing and workwear brands, interiors suppliers, industrial users and other manufacturers that need overflow capacity or specialist processes. Owner-managed clients may buy directly, while larger accounts involve sourcing managers, production directors, operations leads, procurement teams and quality or compliance staff. Contracting is often practical and evidence-led: samples, spec sheets, tolerance checks, lead-time tests and price breaks by volume. Shorter-cycle work can be agreed by direct relationship and repeat purchase order; larger brand-owner or public-sector-adjacent work tends to pass through approved supplier onboarding, audits and more formal tendering.
What they buy
Most textiles firms tend to spend on practical systems and services that protect throughput, quality and cash collection. Relevant categories include production planning, inventory and warehouse software, quoting and job costing, ecommerce or trade portal tooling, CRM, billing, credit control, payroll, HR, health and safety, and quality-management workflows. Suppliers also buy machinery maintenance, pattern and sample support, packaging, logistics, waste handling, energy advice, certification support, accountancy, insurance and employment law advice. Demand for analytics is usually tied to margin, scrap rates, supplier performance and customer profitability rather than abstract dashboards.
Why and how to sell to them
Textiles buyers tend to evaluate new vendors when capacity tightens, a retailer changes ordering patterns, a larger customer asks for better traceability, or management needs clearer unit economics on repeat work. Leadership change, a new production line, export activity, a move into private-label supply or a failed audit can also create intent. Outbound tends to land better when it speaks to fewer late deliveries, cleaner labelling records, lower rework, faster quoting, fewer stock discrepancies or reduced admin around purchase orders. Claims should be grounded in operational outcomes, because many firms compare new spend against machinery, labour and material costs.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
