Textile Companies in Nottingham: 105 Active Firms (2026)
Textile companies in Nottingham manufacture fabrics, garments and sewn products for consumer and business supply chains across the city region.
Buying sits close to product, procurement and operations teams rather than abstract brand budgets: retail buyers, workwear suppliers, interiors distributors, technical-textile specifiers and contract manufacturing customers tend to care about run reliability, finishing capability and traceable specifications. Engagements are usually practical and purchase-order led, covering cutting, stitching, assembly, finishing or small-batch production from UK premises. The likely customer base is business-to-business heavy, with some consumer-facing supply where a Nottingham producer owns or controls the finished good. Compliance signals matter because fibre content, product descriptions and labelling sit directly in the sales process.
Nottingham has 105 actively trading textile companies in this list, a fairly small local manufacturing cohort whose shape appears more specialist than plant-scale. Reported employment totals 645 people, so the footprint is distributed across lean workshops, owner-managed producers, finishers and wholesale-linked manufacturers rather than a handful of very large employers. The commercial centre of gravity is likely to sit in lower mid-market production, where repeat orders, quality control and the ability to handle varied specifications are more relevant than national brand visibility.
Regulatory exposure is narrower than in licensed sectors, but the rules touch day-to-day trading. Textile products need fibre-content labels that are present, in English, durable, legible, visible and accessible, and only prescribed fibre names should be used. Items that include fur, leather, bone or other non-textile animal-origin parts need the required wording: “contains non-textile parts of animal origin”. Misleading product descriptions and material omissions also fall within consumer-protection law under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act, so sales copy, labels, order confirmations and online listings all carry compliance risk. UKFT remains the relevant trade body reference point for the wider UK fashion and textile industry.
Further development appears likely to be incremental. The Nottingham base tends to look capacity-constrained rather than scale-up heavy, so buyers may value dependable production slots, finishing quality and shorter domestic supply chains over broad catalogue range. Margin pressure in apparel and interiors is likely to keep automation, waste reduction and supplier consolidation on the agenda, but small workshops may move cautiously where capital equipment payback is uncertain. Compliance pressure should also make clearer fibre descriptions and auditable specifications part of ordinary commercial hygiene, especially for producers selling through retail or wholesale channels.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (2 of 105 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
12% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (13 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
The Textile Products (Labelling and Fibre Composition) Regulations 2012 require textile products to carry a fibre-content label in English, using prescribed fibre names in a durable, legible, visible and accessible format.
Misleading product descriptions and omissions fall under Part 4, Chapter 1 of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, so fibre, origin and animal-derived-content claims need evidence.
UKFT reports that the UK fashion and textile industry contributes £62 billion to the UK economy, supports 1.3 million jobs and raises more than £23 billion in tax revenues.
WRAP’s 2024 Textiles Market Situation Report records 1.42 million tonnes of new textile products consumed in the UK in 2022 and 1.45 million tonnes of used textiles generated.
Textile Exchange reports global fibre production of 124 million tonnes in 2023, with polyester accounting for 57% of total fibre production.

How Nottingham Textile companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Textile firms in Nottingham usually earn revenue from made-to-order manufacturing, finishing, alteration, wholesale supply or small runs of finished goods. Pricing tends to sit around unit rates, metres, labour minutes, setup charges, sampling fees and repeat call-off orders, with margins affected by material yield, machine time and rework. Some producers sell private-label garments or fabric components into retail and interiors channels; others operate closer to contract manufacturing, where the customer owns the specification and the local firm supplies cutting, stitching, assembly, pressing, packaging or quality checks.
Who they sell to
Customers tend to be retail buying teams, workwear suppliers, interiors distributors, technical-textile specifiers, public-sector contractors and other manufacturers needing domestic production capacity. Decision-makers are usually owners, production managers, heads of procurement, product developers, operations directors or finance leads rather than large brand teams. Smaller orders may be agreed through repeat purchase orders after sampling, while larger accounts can involve supplier onboarding, audits, quality documentation and framework-style terms. Sales cycles are often governed by sample approval, material availability, fit testing and delivery slots, so direct relationships and referrals matter more than self-serve purchasing.
What they buy
Most Nottingham textile producers tend to spend on tools and services that protect margin, reduce admin and keep production commitments visible. Relevant categories include quoting and order-management software, inventory control, production scheduling, specification and bill-of-material systems, quality management, labelling compliance support, accounting, payroll, HR, health and safety advice, insurance, logistics, packaging and energy monitoring. Recruitment services may fit where firms need machinists, pattern cutters, warehouse staff or production supervisors. Smaller workshops often favour systems that sit close to existing spreadsheets and accounting workflows, because implementation time competes with production time.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying triggers tend to appear when a producer wins a new retail, workwear or interiors account, adds machinery, takes larger repeat orders, changes premises or appoints a finance or operations lead. Common pain points include short production windows, material-cost movement, stock tied up in trims and fabric, labelling errors, late supplier deliveries and limited visibility across jobs in progress. Outbound messages are more likely to land when they connect to missed delivery dates, lower rework, clearer material provenance, easier audit response or faster quoting, rather than broad claims about digitising manufacturing.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
