TIC Companies in Glasgow: 100+ Active Firms (2026)
Testing, inspection and certification companies in Glasgow verify products, systems and sites through conformity assessment services.
Buying centres tend to sit with quality, operations, health and safety, procurement and regulated-site managers rather than marketing or finance teams. Glasgow-area TIC providers usually sell to regional manufacturers, infrastructure operators, construction contractors and regulated service providers, with work packaged as recurring audit schedules, site inspections, calibration visits, product checks and supplier-assurance programmes. Engagements are often practical and asset-specific: a client may need evidence for a customer audit, a safety case, a tender requirement or a product-marking file. The commercial motion therefore leans towards technical credibility, accreditation scope and response time, not high-volume self-service sales.
Glasgow has 126 actively trading TIC companies, enough for supplier discovery but still a compact local market. Reported headcount across these firms is 1,101, spread across laboratories, inspection teams, audit providers and calibration specialists. Only 4 companies report turnover above £5M, while 20 were incorporated since 2022; that mix points to an older base of local service businesses with a modest intake of newer compliance, calibration and site-assurance operators.
Conformity assessment in the UK is built around accreditation, with GOV.UK describing it as “checking the checkers” for testing, calibration, certification and inspection bodies. The UK National Accreditation Body sits at the centre of that system, and government policy recognises its accreditation for organisations operating in the UK. Product conformity adds another layer: UKCA and CE regimes determine whether marking and external assessment are needed, depending on the product category. OPSS guidance places Approved Bodies for Great Britain and UK Notified Bodies for Northern Ireland within a Secretary of State appointment process and a public conformity-assessment register.
Demand appears tied less to discretionary software-style spending than to regulated asset lifecycles, customer audit requirements and procurement evidence. Glasgow’s cohort tends to look local-service oriented, so expansion may come through deeper sector coverage, field capacity and accreditation scope rather than a rush of very large standalone firms. Smaller operators may face pressure where clients want multi-site coverage and traceable reporting, while specialist providers can remain defensible when technical competence, assessor availability and local response matter. Consolidation remains plausible, but the market is likely to stay mixed between laboratories, inspection teams and certification-led practices.

Key facts
About 3% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (4 of 126 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
15% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (20 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
UK testing, inspection and certification work centres on conformity assessment: testing, calibration, certification and inspection.
Government guidance describes third-party accreditation as “checking the checkers”, with UKAS appointed under the Accreditation Regulations 2009 as the sole UK National Accreditation Body.
UKCA and CE regimes cover more than 20 product types, with sector rules deciding where third-party assessment and marking are required.
Approved Bodies for Great Britain and UK Notified Bodies for Northern Ireland are appointed by the Secretary of State and listed on the UK Market Conformity Assessment Bodies database.
Testing is commonly reported as the largest service line, while certification is commonly identified as the faster-growing service segment.

How Glasgow TIC companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Glasgow TIC providers earn fees by turning technical assessment into audit-ready evidence: test reports, inspection certificates, calibration certificates, product conformity files and supplier-assurance findings. Revenue is usually service-led rather than licence-led. Small jobs may be priced per sample, asset, site visit or certificate, while recurring clients often buy annual calibration schedules, retained inspection capacity or planned audit programmes. Larger projects can bundle method development, field work, laboratory time, reporting and corrective-action follow-up. Margins depend on assessor utilisation, travel time, equipment uptime and the ability to defend competence during client and accreditation reviews, so operational discipline matters as much as sales volume.
Who they sell to
Typical customers are regional manufacturers, construction contractors, utilities and infrastructure operators, transport and facilities managers, and regulated service firms that need evidence before equipment, products or sites can be accepted. Buyers usually include quality managers, operations directors, health and safety heads, engineering managers, procurement teams and, on higher-risk work, technical authorities or compliance leads. Lower-value work is often won through direct relationships and repeat call-offs; larger programmes tend to pass through approved-supplier lists, framework agreements, tender packs or customer audit requirements. Sales cycles vary with risk: urgent inspections can convert quickly, while certification-led work may wait for budgets, assessor availability and document review.
What they buy
Most TIC firms tend to spend on systems that reduce manual handling of evidence: job scheduling, quote-to-cash, certificate generation, document control, laboratory information management, calibration management, quality management, customer portals and secure storage for reports. Field teams also need mobile forms, asset registers, route planning, fleet support, instruments, reference standards, personal protective equipment and training. Back-office buying often covers accounting, payroll, HR, recruitment, insurance, legal support, cyber security, website upkeep and sector marketing. Providers with laboratory or workshop operations may also buy facilities maintenance, equipment servicing, environmental monitoring and specialist waste handling, especially where accreditation depends on traceable controls.
Why and how to sell to them
TIC buyers tend to evaluate vendors when operational friction becomes visible: missed calibration dates, slow certificate turnaround, assessor diaries running full, accreditation nonconformities, customer audit pressure or a new tender requiring broader evidence. Funding events are less central than capacity, compliance and service-line expansion, although a new operations lead or quality manager can create a review window. Outbound works better when it names the workflow being improved, such as quote-to-certificate admin, field utilisation, audit-trail completeness or faster mobilisation for site work. Generic productivity claims usually land poorly; proof, implementation effort and fit with existing accreditation processes matter more.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
