Agri-supply Companies in the UK: 4,500+ Active Firms (2026)
Agri-supply companies in the UK distribute farm inputs, machinery and equipment for growers, livestock producers and rural operators.
Buying centres sit close to farm operations: crop and livestock inputs, machinery sales, equipment hire, parts supply, workshop servicing and rural distribution. Customers are mainly commercial growers, livestock producers, contractors, estates and dealer networks rather than consumers, with purchasing shaped by seasonality, downtime risk and local field support. Engagements range from repeat consumables and parts orders to capital equipment, rental fleets and service agreements. The better-fitting operators tend to be mid-market or larger B2B suppliers with regional coverage, stocked inventory and the ability to support customers after the initial sale.
The UK has 4,573 active trading agri-supply companies, making this a broad but still specialist slice of rural commerce rather than a narrow equipment-dealer category. Reported headcount across the cohort totals 3,344 people. That employment footprint sits behind distribution, servicing, rental and producer support activities, so commercial work is likely to be spread across depots, workshops and field-sales teams as much as office functions. The cohort also includes a long tail of local operators alongside mid-market suppliers serving wider agricultural regions.
Input suppliers and machinery dealers sit inside a mixed operating context. The relevant checks depend on activity: crop-protection handling, fertiliser storage, animal-feed traceability, used-equipment resale, road-going machinery and workshop safety all bring different obligations. Seasonality also matters. Spring input demand, harvest-time repair work and livestock-cycle purchasing can compress working-capital needs into short windows, while rental and servicing models carry after-sales exposure that pure distributors avoid. For researchers, the useful distinction is less between agriculture and non-agriculture, and more between stocked distributors, machinery-service operators and advisory-led input suppliers.
Practical, margin-aware buying appears likely to shape the next phase. Customers tend to value availability, repair capability and field knowledge, which favours suppliers with local stock, technicians and established routes into farming communities. At the same time, many smaller operators may find it harder to fund inventory and specialist staff without joining buying groups, adding services or selling into adjacent rural markets. Consolidation has been more plausible where depots, workshops and customer books overlap, but the sector is unlikely to become purely centralised while farm support still depends on proximity and trust.

Key facts
About 7% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (342 of 4,573 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
14% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (648 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Agri-supply firms sit between farm production and manufacturers, importers and wholesalers, carrying inputs such as seed, fertiliser, crop protection, parts and equipment.
Buyer groups tend to include growers, livestock producers, rural operators, estates and contractors, so sales models are often local, seasonal or category-led.
Machinery and equipment distributors often compete on parts availability, servicing capacity and branch coverage, rather than the initial equipment sale alone.
Crop input suppliers face indirect compliance pressure because farm customers need traceable, correctly stored and properly documented products.

How UK agri-supply companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Agri-supply operators earn revenue through a mix of stocked-goods margins, workshop labour, equipment hire, service plans and finance-adjacent sales support. Seasonal inputs and spare parts create repeat account revenue, while machinery, irrigation kit, storage equipment and rental fleets create larger, less frequent engagements. Pricing tends to combine list prices, trade discounts, rebates, delivery charges, call-out fees and contracted maintenance. Working capital matters more than in many B2B services markets because stock has to be bought before demand is certain, and slow-moving parts can sit on shelves. The commercial model is therefore part distributor, part service business and, for machinery-led firms, part local infrastructure provider.
Who they sell to
Typical buyers are farm owners, estate managers, contractors, farm managers, agronomists, workshop leads and finance directors. Smaller customers often buy through account managers, depot counters or telephone ordering, with trust built through availability and response time rather than formal procurement. Larger farms, producer groups and estates are more likely to compare quotes, negotiate payment terms and involve finance or operations before committing to machinery, hire fleets or multi-site service agreements. Sales cycles are short for spares and consumables, seasonal for inputs, and longer for capital equipment where demonstrations, trade-in values, credit approval and after-sales cover all affect the decision.
What they buy
Most agri-supply firms tend to spend on systems that protect margin, stock accuracy and service capacity. Relevant categories include inventory planning, ERP, CRM, dealer-management software, field-service scheduling, workshop job cards, mobile technician tools, e-commerce portals, payment collection, credit control and customer account management. Machinery and parts operators may also need telematics integration, warranty administration, route planning, vehicle tracking and asset maintenance systems. Input suppliers often require traceability records, compliance workflows and technical content for advisory-led selling. Outside software, common external spend includes recruitment, technician training, health and safety support, insurance, accounting, debt recovery, local marketing, warehousing and property maintenance.
Why and how to sell to them
Agri-supply buyers tend to evaluate vendors when operational pressure becomes visible: a new depot, an acquisition, a branch system replacement, rising stockouts, a parts backlog, late customer payments or a shortage of workshop capacity before harvest. Leadership changes in finance, operations or after-sales can also create review points. Outbound works better when it is tied to a concrete rural-commerce problem, such as reducing downtime for customers, improving first-time fix rates, tightening seasonal demand forecasting or making credit exposure easier to monitor. Generic digitalisation messages usually land poorly; margin protection, uptime, cash conversion and local service quality are more credible angles.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
