Agritech Companies in the UK: 46 Active Firms (2026)
Agritech companies in the UK apply technology to farming, food production and land management across national supply chains.
Buying centres tend to sit with farm operations, agronomy teams, food-production managers, sustainability leads and, in some cases, public-sector agricultural programme teams. The customer base is mainly B2B, with suppliers selling into farms, growers, processors, distributors and land-management organisations rather than consumers. Typical engagements appear to range from field trials and equipment deployments to recurring software, analytics or monitoring contracts. The common thread is practical adoption: buyers usually want evidence that a tool can reduce labour, improve yield visibility, support compliance, or make better use of land, inputs and livestock assets.
The UK cohort is small: 46 companies are actively trading, with 726 reported staff between them. Revenue scale is uneven, with 5 firms above £5M turnover and only 3 incorporated since 2022. That points to a list weighted towards established specialist operators rather than a broad intake of newly formed startups. For market mapping, it is a narrower commercial population than general agricultural technology commentary often implies, but it captures firms already selling into farms, processors, land managers or adjacent food-supply customers.
Regulation is activity-led rather than sector-led. Input suppliers, sensing hardware makers, farm-management software providers and analytics services face different obligations depending on whether they touch chemicals, animal health, food-chain traceability, personal information, grant administration or environmental reporting. Procurement can also be conservative because farm customers are seasonal, asset-heavy and exposed to weather and commodity-price cycles. Public-sector agricultural programmes shape some demand where payments and reporting duties reward measurement of land use, inputs or emissions. A software vendor serving farms, a hardware maker supplying growers and a services business measuring soil outcomes may all sit in agritech, but their risk profiles differ.
Commercial maturity appears uneven. Many suppliers still need to prove that farm-level pilots convert into repeat purchasing, especially where hardware installation, agronomy advice or behaviour change is part of the proposition. Software and analytics models tend to scale more cleanly, but route-to-farm remains a constraint unless vendors can work through existing distributor, adviser or processor relationships. Consolidation looks plausible where complementary capabilities sit apart: sensing, automation, crop science, compliance reporting and land-use measurement often need to be packaged together before buyers see a practical operating case.

Key facts
About 10% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (5 of 46 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
6% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (3 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Agritech suppliers sell into farming, food production and land-management workflows rather than a single farm-gate market.
Buyer targeting tends to depend on operating model, with software-led suppliers sitting alongside service-led and field-support businesses.
The sector’s technology use is tied to national supply chains, including agricultural operations and food producer workflows.

How UK agritech companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Revenue usually comes from a mix of recurring software subscriptions, hardware sales or leases, service retainers, agronomy support, input sales and usage-based analytics. Pricing may be set per farm, per hectare, per animal, per site, per monitored asset or per production facility, depending on whether the offer is field software, sensing equipment, automation, crop science, traceability or advisory work. Many engagements start as pilots because buyers need seasonal proof before committing operational budget. Equipment-led suppliers often have installation, maintenance and support income alongside the initial sale, while software-led firms tend to push towards annual contracts and account expansion across sites, crops or livestock units.
Who they sell to
Most agritech suppliers sell to commercial farms, growers, estates, food producers, processors, distributors, land managers and public-sector agricultural programmes. Decision makers are practical and mixed: farm owners, operations directors, agronomists, technical managers, sustainability leads, finance directors and procurement teams may all be involved. Lower-cost software can move through self-serve trials, adviser referrals or direct sales, but larger equipment, automation and traceability projects usually need field demonstrations, budget approval and evidence from comparable sites. Sales cycles often track planting, harvest, livestock or production calendars, so timing matters. Public bodies and larger food-chain buyers are more likely to use formal procurement or RFP routes.
What they buy
Most agritech firms tend to spend on cloud infrastructure, data storage, geospatial analysis, device management, connectivity, cyber security, finance systems, CRM, billing, field-service tooling and customer support software. Hardware-led businesses also need electronics design, contract manufacturing, logistics, installation partners, maintenance systems, product testing, insurance and warranty support. Firms working with farm or environmental information may buy compliance advice, privacy support, quality assurance and audit services. Commercial teams often need marketing, channel development, events, distributor management and sales operations help because route-to-farm is rarely just an online acquisition problem. Recruitment demand commonly centres on agronomy, engineering, data, operations and commercial roles.
Why and how to sell to them
Agritech buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when pilot conversion, field reliability, unit economics or channel reach becomes a constraint. Funding, a new distributor relationship, entry into another crop or livestock segment, a processor contract, leadership change or hiring in sales and operations can all signal budget. Regulation and grant-linked reporting can also create demand where firms need better measurement, traceability or audit trails. Outbound angles work better when they connect to seasonal risk, farm adoption and evidence of payback, rather than generic productivity claims. Sellers should expect technically informed buyers who ask about deployment effort, support burden, integration with existing workflows and proof from comparable agricultural settings.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
