Beauty Care Companies in Leeds: 1,300+ Active Firms (2026)
Beauty care companies formulate, distribute and deliver cosmetics, toiletries and grooming services across Leeds and its metropolitan area.
Buying decisions tend to sit with founder-operators, retail and category teams, ecommerce managers, salon groups, wholesalers and private-label buyers. The Leeds cohort spans consumer products and services: branded ranges, specialist retail, online fulfilment, contract production, salon treatments and professional grooming. Engagements are usually operational rather than experimental, covering supply contracts, treatment delivery, fulfilment capacity, product compliance and repeat consumer demand. The more attractive commercial profiles are businesses with defined routes to market, evidence of repeat purchasing, and the internal processes needed for product safety, responsible-person duties and treatment licensing.
Leeds has 1,333 beauty care companies actively trading across the metropolitan area. Reported employment in the cohort totals 1,665 people, which points to a market made up mainly of owner-managed firms, small specialist teams and service-led operators rather than large local employers. Only 11 companies report turnover above £5M, so the revenue-scale tier is thin. Formation activity is still visible, with 536 firms incorporated since 2022, suggesting continued entry by salons, online sellers, niche product businesses and local service providers despite a relatively small number reaching mid-market scale.
Cosmetic product supply in Great Britain carries defined compliance duties before products reach consumers. A UK-established Responsible Person must ensure safety, hold a Product Information File, arrange a qualified safety assessment, notify OPSS before sale or giveaway, and report serious harmful effects. Manufacturing is expected to follow good manufacturing practice. Service businesses face a parallel local-authority layer: premises offering massage or special treatments may need a council licence, with manicure, sunbed-style light treatments, electrolysis, heat, light and vapour treatments among the common examples. Skin-piercing treatments are typically licensed separately outside most of Greater London.
Commercial pressure appears likely to favour operators that can combine repeat local demand with cleaner compliance processes and dependable fulfilment. The cohort still looks weighted towards early-commercial and service-led firms, so scale-up scarcity may persist unless more businesses move from local footfall or marketplace selling into repeat wholesale, professional or direct-to-consumer channels. Product businesses tend to face higher documentation and safety-assessment burdens than salons, while treatment-led firms remain exposed to staffing, premises and licensing constraints. Consolidation may come through small portfolio acquisitions, but the market is more likely to remain fragmented than to centralise around a small group of national operators.

GOV.UK guidance requires a UK-established Responsible Person to keep a Product Information File, arrange a qualified safety assessment, notify OPSS before products are made available and report serious harmful effects.
Beauty service premises offering massage or special treatments may need a council premises licence, with manicure, sunbeds, electrolysis and heat, light or vapour treatments listed as examples.
CTPA reports GB toiletries and beauty sales of £10.3 billion in 2024, up +8.4% year-on-year, while volumes were relatively flat.
The British Beauty Council reported a direct UK GDP contribution of £13.5 billion in 2023, rising to £27.2 billion when supply-chain and employee-spending effects are included.

How Leeds beauty care companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Beauty care firms in Leeds usually make money through product margin, treatment revenue, wholesale supply, private-label production, ecommerce fulfilment or some mix of these. Product-led businesses tend to sell branded or contract-produced ranges, with revenue tied to repeat purchase, retailer sell-through and stock availability. Service-led operators earn through appointments, treatment packages and add-on retail sales, so utilisation and staff scheduling matter as much as brand demand. Pricing is often practical rather than elaborate: wholesale rate cards, trade discounts, production runs, subscription-like replenishment for repeat customers, or fixed treatment menus. The commercial unit is usually a basket, batch, listing, appointment or supply agreement, not a long software-style implementation.
Who they sell to
Most Leeds beauty care companies sell either to consumers directly, to trade buyers, or through a mix of retail, ecommerce and professional channels. Consumer-facing salons and grooming businesses rely on local footfall, repeat appointments and online booking, while product firms typically pursue independent retailers, salon groups, wholesalers, ecommerce channels and private-label buyers. The buyer on the other side is often a founder, salon owner, category manager, retail buyer, ecommerce manager or procurement contact. Sales cycles vary by route to market: a local service sale can be immediate, while wholesale listings, contract manufacturing and private-label work tend to involve sampling, margin checks, compliance review and operational due diligence before orders move.
What they buy
Most beauty care firms tend to spend on tools and services that reduce operational friction rather than speculative change programmes. Common needs include ecommerce platforms, booking systems, payment processing, stock management, CRM, email and retention marketing, accounting, payroll, HR, product information management, document control and customer support. Product-led operators may also buy labelling, packaging, fulfilment, warehousing, formulation advice, safety assessment support and compliance consultancy around Responsible Person duties and OPSS notification. Service-led businesses are more likely to prioritise premises fit-out, appointment management, training, insurance, local advertising, recruitment and facilities services. Firms with trade or wholesale exposure often need better forecasting, order management and account-level reporting.
Why and how to sell to them
Beauty care buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when an operational threshold is reached: a new product launch, a move into wholesale, a rise in repeat online orders, a premises opening, a licence requirement, or a need to tighten product safety documentation. Outbound messaging usually works better when it maps to those pressures rather than to abstract efficiency claims. For product firms, the sharper angles are compliance readiness, fewer fulfilment errors, cleaner stock visibility and faster trade onboarding. For treatment-led firms, staffing, booking yield, customer retention and local-authority licensing are more immediate. Founder-run businesses may not have formal procurement, so concise proof, low disruption and clear implementation effort matter.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
