Cloud Computing Companies in the UK: 4,100+ Active Firms (2026)
Cloud computing companies provide hosted infrastructure, platforms and managed cloud services to business and public-sector customers in the UK.
Buying decisions tend to sit with CIO, CTO, security and operations teams rather than a single software owner. Demand comes from mid-market businesses, larger enterprises and public-sector bodies that need hosted capacity, migration support, managed operations, security, backup and cloud-native delivery. Engagements are usually departmental or enterprise service relationships, with commercial scope tied to hosting capacity, service levels, professional services and support coverage. The buyer profile favours suppliers with technical delivery teams across architecture, systems engineering, data engineering, security operations and customer success.

Across the UK, 4,182 cloud computing companies are actively trading. The cohort includes a long tail of managed-service and migration specialists alongside suppliers with larger hosting, security and operations contracts. Reported employment reaches 17,795 people across the headcount-reporting cohort, which points to a labour-intensive service model rather than a purely automated infrastructure resale market. The commercial centre of gravity appears to be B2B and B2G work, with public-sector requirements sitting beside private-sector demand.
Cloud hosting and managed operations carry obligations that vary with the workload being supported. Customer due diligence usually focuses on service availability, resilience, backup recoverability, access controls, subcontracting and where customer information is stored. Public-sector contracts add procurement discipline and assurance processes, while regulated customers in sensitive sectors tend to pass through their own audit requirements to cloud providers. Market structure is therefore mixed: some firms compete on migration and support, while others are closer to infrastructure operations, security monitoring or managed application delivery.
The next phase appears likely to favour suppliers that can combine migration, operations, security and application enablement without forcing buyers to coordinate many specialist contracts. Early-commercial firms may find differentiation harder where their offer is mainly resale or basic support. More mature providers tend to defend position through certification, sector-specific assurance and managed-service depth. Consolidation may continue where smaller operators need access to security talent, platform engineering capacity and procurement credentials.

Key facts
About 6% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (252 of 4,182 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
23% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (986 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Cloud suppliers often sell into several buying centres, spanning infrastructure hosting, migration projects, application operations and managed services.
Procurement tends to split between direct technical buyers, outsourced IT teams and public-sector frameworks, so sales cycles vary by customer type.
Security, resilience and data-location requirements often sit alongside price and performance in buyer assessment.
The sector sits underneath software, data and security spending that previously went into owned servers and in-house operations teams.

How UK cloud computing companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Cloud computing firms usually earn through a blend of recurring managed-service fees, usage-linked hosting charges and project work. Compute, storage, backup and network capacity may be billed monthly, while migration, architecture reviews and application modernisation are often priced as fixed-fee projects or day-rate consulting. A common pattern is to land with an assessment or migration, then expand into support, monitoring, security operations and ongoing platform management. Margins tend to depend on staff utilisation, infrastructure resale terms, automation, service-level commitments and the amount of bespoke engineering required for each customer environment.
Who they sell to
Most cloud providers sell to IT-led buyers in mid-market, enterprise and public-sector organisations, with smaller customers more likely to buy packaged support or hosting directly. The main sponsors are typically CIOs, CTOs, CISOs, heads of infrastructure, operations directors and procurement teams, with finance involved where recurring cloud spend is material. Sales cycles vary by risk: a backup or migration assessment may move quickly, while managed operations, security monitoring or public-sector work can require workshops, assurance reviews, commercial negotiation and formal tendering. Partner-led routes are common where a provider depends on wider infrastructure channels.
What they buy
Most cloud computing firms tend to spend on systems that improve delivery quality, utilisation and recurring revenue control. Common purchases include CRM, professional-services automation, ticketing, service desk tooling, monitoring, observability, identity management, security operations software, usage metering, billing, contract management and customer success platforms. They also buy recruitment support for infrastructure, platform and security engineers; legal advice for service terms and subcontracting; accounting support for recurring-revenue reporting; and marketing services aimed at technical buyers. Providers with public-sector or regulated customers may also pay for certification support, penetration testing, audit preparation and policy documentation.
Why and how to sell to them
Cloud buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when delivery strain becomes visible: more incidents, slower onboarding, rising support queues, margin leakage on managed contracts or harder customer assurance requests. Hiring for platform engineering, security operations or customer success can signal that a provider is moving beyond project-led migration work into recurring managed services. Other triggers include new public-sector tender activity, a change in technical leadership, a shift into regulated customer segments or pressure to evidence service availability and backup recoverability. Outbound angles usually work better when tied to measurable operational outcomes: fewer manual tickets, cleaner usage billing, faster environment provisioning or clearer audit trails.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
