Data Analytics Companies in the UK: 3,171 Active Firms (2026)
Data analytics companies in the UK build tools and services that turn operational, customer and market data into insight for decision-making.
Buying centres tend to sit with data, finance, operations, product and technology teams rather than a single software owner. Suppliers cluster around analytics platforms and business intelligence, data engineering and infrastructure, data management, and advisory-led analytics consulting. Buyers include commercial organisations and public-sector bodies that need operational, customer, financial, product or market information turned into dashboards, predictive models, reporting workflows and decision-support processes. Engagements are usually not simple licence sales: they often involve pipeline build-out, model governance, integration with existing systems, and ongoing support for internal reporting teams. Sensitive or personal-data use cases add procurement scrutiny, particularly where profiling, automated decisions or cross-border transfers are involved.
Across the UK, 3,171 data analytics companies are actively trading, spanning software vendors, data engineering shops and advisory-led analytics consultancies. Reported employment totals 5,651 people, with headcount disclosure covering 120 employers; all of those employers report staff. The commercial picture is mixed: some suppliers sell repeatable subscriptions or managed services, while others depend on project-based transformation budgets and public-sector procurement. The market therefore has breadth, but scale is uneven, with many operators likely sitting below the revenue bands that would make them visible to enterprise buyers.
Data and analytics providers do not sit under a single sector licence, so compliance duties depend on the activity being delivered. Personal-data work falls under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act, with the ICO responsible for supervision and enforcement. The core operating tests are fairness, purpose limitation, minimisation, accuracy, retention and security. Sensitive-category information, profiling and automated decision-making bring extra safeguards, which can shape model design as much as legal review. Cross-border transfers also matter for cloud-hosted pipelines and outsourced analytics work, where customers may require International Data Transfer Agreements, Standard Contractual Clauses, Binding Corporate Rules or adequacy regulations before production use.
Demand appears to be shifting from dashboard delivery toward governed analytics embedded in operational workflows. That favours suppliers able to combine data engineering, domain knowledge and privacy controls, rather than firms selling reporting output alone. The cohort still looks fragmented: advisory-led providers can win work through relationships, while product-led vendors tend to need repeatable use cases before procurement becomes easier. Consolidation has been a plausible route for smaller specialists, particularly where buyers want fewer suppliers touching sensitive information. Public-sector and regulated-industry work should remain slower to close, but it may reward firms that can evidence governance without turning every engagement into bespoke consultancy.

Key facts
About 11% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (379 of 3,171 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
11% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (352 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 govern activity involving personal data, with the ICO overseeing rules on fairness, purpose limitation, data minimisation, accuracy, retention and security.
GOV.UK estimated 9,600 active, registered data-driven companies, split between 5,500 specialised data infrastructure or software-development services and 4,100 broader data consultancy or management services.
The wider UK data-driven market generated £343 billion in annual turnover in 2023 and contributed £84.9 billion, or 3.8%, in GVA.
Total UK data investment was estimated at £287 -- 303 billion in 2024, equivalent to 11 -- 12% of GVA.
International data transfers apply to a minority of businesses handling digitised data: 9% transferred data internationally in 2024, rising to 36% for large businesses and 26% for medium-sized businesses.

How UK Data Analytics companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Revenue usually comes from a mix of subscription software, usage-priced platform access, implementation projects and recurring support. Product-led firms tend to price by user, workspace, connector, storage or processing volume; consulting-led firms usually sell discovery, pipeline build, dashboard migration, model deployment and managed analytics retainers. Engagements often start as departmental work before becoming an operating layer for finance, product, customer or operations teams. Gross margin can depend heavily on how repeatable the connectors, templates and governance artefacts are, because bespoke integration work is harder to turn into subscription revenue.
Who they sell to
Most suppliers sell to mid-market and enterprise organisations, with some public-sector work where reporting, case management or operational forecasting are budgeted centrally. Buying groups usually include a functional sponsor, a senior technology owner, procurement and security review; larger deals may involve a CFO, CTO, Chief Data Officer, Head of Analytics or Head of Operations. Contract size tends to depend less on the dashboard itself than on integration depth, permissioning, governance and support obligations. Smaller deals can close through direct sales or self-serve trials, while larger programmes typically move through workshops, proof-of-value stages, framework buying or formal RFPs.
What they buy
Data analytics firms tend to spend on the plumbing around delivery: cloud hosting, storage, compute, orchestration, monitoring, testing, security tooling, identity management and backup. They also buy commercial systems that help turn project work into recurring revenue, including CRM, quoting, billing, customer success, support desk and usage analytics. People-heavy providers often need recruitment, contractor management, payroll, training and professional indemnity advice. Compliance spend usually sits around privacy review, information security, penetration testing, audit preparation and contract templates for processing personal information. Marketing agencies, content specialists and event support can fit where the firm sells expertise rather than a self-serve application.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying intent often appears when a provider moves from bespoke consultancy into repeatable managed services, wins a regulated customer, hires senior commercial or delivery leadership, or needs to evidence UK GDPR and ICO-aligned controls during procurement. Other triggers include a new cloud architecture, a backlog of customer integrations, margin pressure from manual delivery, or longer security reviews slowing sales cycles. Outbound works better when it is tied to a delivery bottleneck: reducing time spent on onboarding, cutting rework in pipelines, improving audit trails, or giving sales teams clearer proof for procurement packs. Generic claims about better insight are usually too broad for this market.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
