Domiciliary Care Companies in the UK: 6,658 Active Firms (2026)
Domiciliary care companies provide in-home personal care and support services for older and disabled people across the UK.
Commercially, the work is organised around recurring local-care packages rather than one-off projects. Buying and operating decisions sit close to branch managers, care coordinators and care-quality leads, because service delivery depends on matching mobile care workers to repeat visits, medication support, companionship and daily living assistance. Customer relationships tend to be long-running and service-led, with providers ranging from local branch operators to larger regional groups. The operational stack is therefore less about premises and more about workforce scheduling, rota reliability, visit evidence, continuity of care and compliance-led record keeping.
The UK has 6,658 actively trading domiciliary care companies, a sizeable operator base for a service that is delivered through local branches rather than centralised sites. Reported employment totals 20,711 people, reflecting the labour intensity of repeated home visits, rota cover and care-coordination work. A further structural split is visible in turnover: 189 firms report more than £5M, leaving most of the active cohort below that threshold. Recent formation also remains part of the picture, with 1,461 firms incorporated since 2022, suggesting continuing entry despite the compliance and staffing burden attached to regulated home care.
Regulation in this market is felt through day-to-day controls rather than occasional approval gates. Providers handling personal care and medication support need auditable care plans, reliable visit records, safeguarding processes and evidence that staff are trained for the tasks they perform. Market structure follows from that: small branch operators can serve tight local patches, but expansion tends to add supervisory overhead as rotas, quality monitoring and continuity of care become harder to manage. Compliance is therefore not a back-office matter; it sits inside scheduling, handover, incident recording and the practical judgement of mobile care workers.
Early-stage entry appears to remain relatively common, while scaled providers look harder to build. The constraint is not only demand for care at home; it is the ability to recruit, schedule and retain mobile staff while keeping visit quality consistent across local patches. Operators that can standardise care coordination without losing continuity may find it easier to add branches or absorb smaller peers. Others are likely to remain locally anchored, especially where management attention is taken up by rota gaps, medication support procedures and inspection readiness.

How UK Domiciliary Care companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Domiciliary care providers earn revenue from recurring care packages delivered in adults’ homes: personal care, medication prompts, companionship and support with daily routines. Pricing is usually time-based, with hourly or visit-based rates, monthly invoicing and separate treatment of travel, cancellations and out-of-hours cover where contracts allow. Some work comes through commissioned care packages and framework arrangements; some comes directly from private individuals or relatives. The service itself is labour and coordination rather than physical infrastructure, so margin depends on rota density, worker availability, continuity, visit evidence and the gap between charge rates and wage, travel and supervision costs.
Who they sell to
Most providers sell to a mix of care commissioners, private-pay families and adults arranging support for themselves. In public-sector routes, adult social care commissioners, procurement teams and care managers tend to shape buying decisions through frameworks, spot purchasing and quality thresholds. In private-pay routes, relatives often influence choice, while registered managers and branch teams handle assessment, care planning and ongoing service fit. Sales cycles vary: urgent home-care starts can move quickly, but framework entry and larger packages usually involve formal checks, pricing scrutiny, safeguarding evidence and service-quality review. Larger operators add finance, operations and compliance leaders to the buying group.
What they buy
Most domiciliary care firms tend to spend on systems and services that keep visits staffed, evidenced and billable. Common categories include rostering, electronic care planning, mobile visit notes, medication-record tools, time-and-attendance, payroll, invoicing, CRM, call handling, route planning and management reporting. Recruitment and retention needs also create demand for applicant tracking, recruitment marketing, training, reference checking, HR advice and workforce communications. Quality and compliance teams may buy audit tools, policy support, incident recording, complaints handling and document management. Larger branch networks are more likely to need finance integration, data migration support, cyber security, insurance advice and change-management help when replacing legacy processes.
Why and how to sell to them
Domiciliary care buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when coordination strain becomes visible: missed or late visits, rota gaps, payroll queries, invoice leakage, inspection preparation, branch openings or the absorption of another local provider. Leadership changes can also prompt review, especially where paper records, disconnected spreadsheets or manual handovers limit oversight. Outbound messaging usually works better when tied to branch economics and care quality, not generic productivity language. Useful angles include reducing coordinator admin, proving visit completion, improving medication-record accuracy, shortening induction, keeping families informed and making supervision easier across mobile teams. Credibility depends on understanding that care continuity and compliance sit inside the same operating workflow.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
