Gaming Companies in London: 2,200+ Active Firms (2026)
Gaming companies in London develop, publish and monetise interactive entertainment software across mobile, console, PC and online channels.
Buying centres split between production teams commissioning content, publishing teams managing launch and user acquisition, and live-operations groups responsible for retention, payments and analytics. The commercial route is mixed: consumer game revenue sits alongside business-to-business services sold to studios, publishers, media owners and distribution partners. Engagements tend to be project-based for art, audio and content work, but ongoing where the supplier handles monetisation, audience acquisition, community operations or platform infrastructure. London’s buyer base suits firms that can combine creative production with performance marketing and rights management, rather than pure engineering alone.
London has 2,267 actively trading gaming companies, making the capital a sizeable concentration of studios, publishers, monetisation specialists and gaming-adjacent service providers. The revenue profile is still weighted towards smaller entities: 37 have reported turnover above £5M, while 833 were incorporated since 2022. The employment footprint that is reported amounts to 3,157 people across 119 firms, pointing to a market with many lean publishing entities, founder-led studios and specialist suppliers sitting alongside a smaller group of employers with permanent production, marketing, operations and support teams.
Interactive entertainment sits across several rulebooks rather than a single licence regime. Studios and publishers need consumer-law controls around refunds, virtual items and recurring payments, while advertising and user-acquisition work brings scrutiny over targeting, disclosures and treatment of younger audiences. Gambling-adjacent mechanics create a separate boundary where betting, prize draws or casino-style play are involved. Privacy, payments and account-security obligations also matter because many operators process behavioural and transaction information. Distribution partners add another layer through contractual rules on age rating, content moderation and payment flows.
Commercial pressure tends to fall on discoverability, retention and the cost of acquiring players, so smaller studios appear more exposed to changes in advertising markets and distribution terms. Scale-up scarcity is likely to keep the cohort fragmented, with acquisition interest centred on catalogues, live-operations capability and specialist tools rather than undifferentiated production capacity. Regulation also looks more important at the margin: firms handling younger audiences, paid randomised items or player-level behavioural information are likely to face longer compliance cycles. Cost pressure may keep many teams lean.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (37 of 2,267 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
36% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (833 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
London gaming firms span development, publishing and monetisation across mobile, console, PC and online channels.
The mix includes publishers, monetisation businesses and smaller studios, so rights ownership and distribution can matter as much as development capacity.
Business models range from development-heavy studios to asset-light publishers and holding structures.
Audience acquisition and platform distribution shape commercial outcomes because the category sells into consumer entertainment rather than enterprise procurement.

How London gaming companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Gaming companies in London typically earn through a mix of game sales, in-game purchases, subscriptions, advertising, licensing, publishing services and revenue-share arrangements. Consumer-facing studios depend on launch performance and player retention, while B2B suppliers sell production capacity, live-operations support, analytics, payments, community management or distribution services to other gaming businesses. Pricing can look quite different by model: work-for-hire art, audio, localisation and QA is usually scoped by project, whereas monetisation, hosting, support and audience operations are more often retainer-based, usage-based or tied to revenue share.
Who they sell to
Most gaming firms sell either to consumers through digital distribution channels or to other studios, publishers, media owners and rights holders. B2B buying groups usually include studio heads, executive producers, publishing directors, heads of user acquisition, finance leads and technical leads. Smaller production suppliers often sell through founder-led outreach and referrals, with shorter cycles when a launch deadline is close. Larger platform, analytics, payments or publishing-services contracts tend to involve security, finance and legal review, especially where player accounts, behavioural information or payment flows are involved.
What they buy
Most gaming firms tend to spend on cloud hosting, development tooling, build and test automation, QA, localisation, player analytics, attribution, CRM, customer support, fraud prevention, payments, community moderation and security monitoring. Studios with live titles also buy marketing services, creative testing, ad operations, lifecycle messaging and data engineering support. Production-heavy teams may use external art, animation, audio and narrative capacity to cover peaks without carrying permanent headcount. Legal, accounting and tax-credit advice also matter, particularly where intellectual property, contractor terms, consumer payments and overseas distribution sit inside the same commercial model.
Why and how to sell to them
Budget tends to appear around launch windows, soft launches, new publishing deals, catalogue acquisitions, platform expansion and changes in monetisation policy. Gaming buyers are often trying to reduce wasted acquisition spend, improve retention, speed up content delivery, protect account systems or make payment and refund flows easier to govern. Outbound angles work better when tied to those operational moments rather than a generic technology pitch. Signals such as hiring in live operations, a new senior commercial role, a title moving from development into launch, or fresh compliance scrutiny can indicate that the team is reviewing suppliers.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
