Mobile Gaming Companies in London: 60+ Active Firms (2026)
Mobile gaming companies create, publish and monetise smartphone and tablet games for consumers, with London bases across development, publishing and commercial roles.
Commercial control tends to sit between product, user-acquisition, analytics, monetisation and live-operations teams, rather than a central enterprise-procurement function. London-based operators usually sell to consumer players through platform distribution, while also managing advertiser demand, payment flows and community operations. Engagements are therefore a mix of low-value consumer transactions, recurring virtual-item economies, subscription access and advertising yield management. The buyer profile is operationally specialist: teams need performance marketing discipline, game design capacity, engineering support and enough analytics capability to tune retention and monetisation after launch. Smaller studios often look like creative product teams; scaled publishers add portfolio management, licensing and cross-border commercial roles.

London accounts for 60 actively trading mobile gaming companies in this list, a small but visible city cohort spanning studios, publishers and commercial operators. The employment footprint is also concentrated: these firms report 881 employees in total, reflecting a market where a handful of publishers can carry much of the headcount while many studios remain lean. That structure matters for researchers because revenue scale, publishing reach and user-acquisition capacity are likely to differ sharply between firms that own live portfolios and firms still proving an initial title or outsourced production model.
Mobile-game developers and publishers are not licensed as a standalone UK sector, but distribution and monetisation sit inside several regimes. Age classification uses the PEGI system, with legal backing for restricted ratings on physical sales. Loot-box mechanics attract policy attention where randomised items are offered through real-money, virtual-currency or gameplay-reward routes, because the same design can raise consumer-protection and gambling-adjacent concerns. HMRC reliefs also affect production economics: eligibility depends on cultural certification, and the older video-games tax relief regime is being replaced by Video Games Expenditure Credit. CMA scrutiny of mobile ecosystems adds a market-structure layer around app distribution, in-app purchase rules and cloud gaming.
London studios appear likely to remain split between lean creative teams and publisher-style operators with live-service portfolios. Early commercial risk tends to sit in user acquisition, retention and platform dependency, rather than in enterprise sales cycles. Scale-ups may keep prioritising analytics, monetisation design and cross-functional live operations as paid acquisition remains costly and platform rules tighten. Consolidation also looks plausible where smaller teams need publishing reach, technical operations or portfolio diversification. The constraint is not a shortage of game concepts; it is the ability to turn attention, compliance and repeat spending into durable consumer businesses without relying on a hit-led model.

Key facts
About 8% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (5 of 60 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
18% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (11 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Ukie says the UK video-games market reached £8.76 billion in 2025, up 7.4%, while mobile-games spend grew 7.9% to £2.07 billion.
GOV.UK says video games are classified under the PEGI system, and PEGI 12, 16 and 18 ratings have legal backing.
Loot boxes are treated in policy work as randomised in-game items that may be bought with real money, virtual currency or gameplay rewards.
Video-games tax relief closes to new productions after 31 March 2025 and fully from 1 April 2027, with Video Games Expenditure Credit potentially available instead.
The CMA has examined mobile ecosystems, including app distribution, in-app purchase rules and cloud gaming.

How London mobile gaming companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Mobile gaming companies earn by turning short, repeat consumer sessions into paid downloads, in-app purchases, subscriptions, advertising impressions and licensing income. Product economics are portfolio-based: a studio may build one title and seek publishing support, while a larger operator manages several live games with content calendars, pricing tests and user-acquisition budgets. Contracted revenue is less central than in B2B software. Supplier spend often maps to launch phases, platform submissions, localisation, creative production and ongoing live operations. Gross margin can look attractive once a title scales, but paid acquisition, platform fees and content refresh cycles usually absorb cash before payback is clear.
Who they sell to
Their own customers are mostly consumers, so there is no classic CFO-led sale for core game revenue. Where B2B relationships exist, they usually involve ad networks, media buyers, platform account teams, licensors and publishing partners. Decisions sit with heads of product, monetisation, user acquisition, studio leadership and finance, with engineering and analytics pulled in for SDK, payment or attribution work. Small tools and services can be bought directly by functional leads through self-serve or direct sales; larger publishing, licensing or co-development arrangements tend to involve founder-level approval, contract review and longer negotiation. Formal RFPs are less common outside larger publishers.
What they buy
Most London mobile gaming firms tend to spend on game engines, cloud hosting, analytics, attribution, A/B testing, crash reporting, observability, payment operations, ad monetisation, fraud prevention, security, customer support and community moderation. They also buy creative production, localisation, QA, audio, legal advice, accountancy, tax-credit support, recruitment and performance marketing services. Smaller studios may favour usage-priced tools and outsourced production capacity; larger publishers are more likely to need finance systems, portfolio reporting, data warehousing, privacy tooling and HR processes. Sellers should expect technical due diligence where an offer touches player identity, monetisation flows, platform compliance or live-game stability.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying intent often appears around a title launch, a soft-launch result, a funding round, a leadership hire, the move from one live game to a portfolio, or a change in platform rules. Pain points tend to be measurable: acquisition costs, retention decay, payment leakage, ad-yield volatility, moderation load, crash rates and reporting gaps between product and finance. Outbound works better when it speaks to a specific operating metric rather than a generic growth promise. Useful angles include shorter content-production cycles, lower false positives in fraud review, cleaner revenue recognition, faster compliance evidence, or clearer cohort-level payback on marketing spend.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
