Identity Management Companies in London: 94 Active Firms (2026)
Identity and access management companies secure user authentication, authorisation and account governance for London-based organisations.
Buying authority tends to sit with security, identity architecture, infrastructure and compliance teams, rather than with a single application owner. Demand splits across workforce access, customer or citizen access, privileged-access control and identity governance, with sales motions ranging from software licences to managed authentication and implementation work. Customers are mainly regulated UK organisations, public bodies, technology teams and mid-market enterprises. Engagements are usually high-scrutiny rather than high-volume: procurement teams expect integration with directories, audit trails, incident-recovery processes and support from engineering, security operations, implementation and customer-success staff.

London has 94 actively trading identity management companies in this cohort, a compact market by software-sector standards but large enough to split between specialist product suppliers, implementation-led consultancies and managed-service operators. The reported employment footprint totals 835 people, pointing to a vendor base where many firms remain technically focused rather than sales-heavy. That pattern fits the buyer base: regulated organisations and public bodies tend to prefer suppliers that can evidence delivery discipline, security operations cover and account-lifecycle controls before wider rollout.
Licensing is fragmented rather than sector-wide: most suppliers are not authorised merely for providing access-management tooling, but their services often process personal data. UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act therefore shape product design, hosting, logging and incident handling. ICO expectations centre on “appropriate technical and organisational measures”, including confidentiality, integrity and availability, access controls, testing and restoration of access after incidents. Providers that verify identities or attributes face a more formal route, because participation in the UK digital identity and attributes trust framework relies on certificates issued through accredited conformity assessment bodies before joining the Digital Verification Services register under the Data (Use and Access) Act.
Commercial development appears uneven. Specialist providers with credible integration skills tend to win when buyers need directory migration, governance clean-up or privileged-access tightening, while thinner suppliers are more exposed to procurement delay and security-questionnaire fatigue. The cohort also sits near adjacent cyber-security and compliance services, so consolidation appears plausible where managed-service providers want identity capability without building it themselves. Public-sector assurance and privacy expectations may keep sales cycles slow, but they also make switching away from proven operators harder once identity workflows are embedded.

Key facts
About 10% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (10 of 94 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
5% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (5 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
IAM providers are not licensed as a single regulated industry, but products that handle personal data sit within UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
The ICO frames UK GDPR security around "appropriate technical and organisational measures", including confidentiality, integrity and availability, access controls, testing and restoration of access after incidents.
Digital identity and attribute service providers use the UK digital identity and attributes trust framework, with UKAS-accredited certificates required for joining the Digital Verification Services register under Section 32 of the Data (Use and Access) Act.
GOV.UK’s 2024 digital identity sectoral analysis estimated 270 UK-registered active digital identity firms, generating £2.05 billion annual revenue in 2023/2024 and 10,813 FTE employees.
Access control and identity security exports were valued at £0.5 billion in 2024, compared with £8.6 billion for cyber security within total UK security exports of £12.9 billion.

How London Identity Management companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Revenue usually comes from recurring software licences for access, governance and privileged-account controls, with managed-service fees and implementation work layered around them. Pricing tends to follow user, application, tenant or transaction volumes, although customer-identity and citizen-access projects often include configuration, assurance and migration charges. The service shape is therefore part software platform, part security operations and part change-management consultancy. A supplier may win the licence, but margin often depends on integration work: connecting directories, cleaning role models, mapping approval workflows and proving that audit logs, recovery procedures and support processes will stand up to scrutiny.
Who they sell to
Buyers are usually security and technology leaders, with compliance, procurement and finance joining once a deployment touches regulated users or critical systems. Most vendors sell to mid-market and enterprise organisations, public bodies and technology teams rather than to small businesses, though lighter workforce-access products can enter through a department-led pilot. Direct sales is common for material contracts, supported by technical workshops, security questionnaires and legal review. Public-sector and larger enterprise opportunities tend to move through RFP-style procurement or framework routes, while partner-led delivery matters where the buyer already relies on an outsourced security or infrastructure team.
What they buy
Most identity management firms tend to spend on cloud infrastructure, test environments, secure development tooling, observability, vulnerability management, incident-response support and documentation systems. Commercial teams need CRM, sales intelligence, proposal management and customer-success tooling, but the buying case usually has to connect to trust, renewal risk or implementation throughput. Back-office spend often covers legal advice for data protection terms, insurance, accounting, recruitment and specialist contractors for directory integration or security operations. Training and certification support can also matter, because buyers scrutinise staff competence as well as product controls during procurement.
Why and how to sell to them
Identity management suppliers tend to evaluate vendors when sales cycles lengthen, security questionnaires become harder to answer, regulated clients ask for clearer evidence, or implementation teams become the bottleneck. Other triggers include new senior hires, a move upmarket, preparation for public-sector work, fresh certification work, or a rise in managed-service obligations. Outbound messages work better when they reduce audit effort, shorten deployment hand-offs, improve renewal evidence or remove manual work from engineers and security operations. Generic productivity claims land less well; this market usually wants proof that a vendor will not add risk to an already scrutinised service.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
