M&A Advisory Companies in London: 200+ Active Firms (2026)
M&A advisory companies in London advise on mergers, acquisitions, disposals and capital-raising for businesses across the capital.
Buying centres in London tend to sit with founders, owner-managers, boards, finance directors, private investors and management teams rather than centralised procurement teams. Mandates are usually episodic and senior-led: sell-side preparation, acquisition search, buyout advice, disposal planning, valuation support and capital-raising execution. The commercial centre of gravity appears to be lower mid-market and growth-company work, with public-company and cross-border processes requiring more specialist regulatory and disclosure awareness. Engagements are therefore less like software subscriptions and more like adviser appointments tied to a transaction path, where sector knowledge, relationship access and negotiation support carry weight.
London has 200 active M&A advisory firms in this cohort, reflecting the capital's role as a venue for owner-managed exits, investor-backed acquisitions and public-market work. Reported employment totals 660 people, so the footprint is material but still concentrated in relatively small advisory practices rather than large headcount platforms. 13 firms report turnover above £5M, while 18 were incorporated since 2022; that combination points to an established adviser base with a thinner layer of recent entrants. The cohort is therefore better read as senior-led corporate finance capacity in London, rather than a set of high-volume transaction houses.
FCA perimeter questions matter because corporate finance work can move from commercial advice into regulated activity when advisers arrange deals, advise on investments or make arrangements with a view to transactions in investments. Non-MiFID corporate finance firms also have prudential conditions, including minimum tangible resources and restrictions on holding or controlling client money. Public-company processes sit under the Takeover Code, where conduct expectations apply to advisers as well as offerors and boards. The market structure is therefore partly relationship-led and partly rule-bound: private-company sale work may look relatively informal, while regulated securities, public offers and capital-raising mandates need documented permissions and process discipline.
London M&A advisers appear likely to polarise between established practices with repeat mandates and smaller boutiques reliant on founder networks, sector focus or personal track record. Demand tends to follow owner succession, sponsor deployment, public-market confidence and the availability of debt, so quieter deal periods can expose firms without recurring origination channels. Scale-up scarcity may persist because advisory businesses are people-heavy and harder to productise than research, software or compliance services. Consolidation looks plausible where succession issues meet buyer demand for sector teams, though culture and client ownership often slow integration.

Key facts
About 6% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (13 of 200 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
9% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (18 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
FCA rules can apply where M&A advisory involves regulated activities such as advising on investments, arranging deals in investments, or making arrangements with a view to transactions in investments.
Non-MiFID corporate finance firms must maintain tangible net worth and net assets greater than £10,000 and must not hold or control client money.
Public-company takeovers are shaped by the Takeover Code, which the Takeover Panel says is based on six General Principles and a series of Rules.
ONS recorded 402 domestic and cross-border M&A transactions involving UK companies in Q4 2024, down from 464 in Q3 2024.
PwC reported UK M&A deal value of £68 billion in H1 2024, up 66% from £41 billion in H1 2023, while deal volume fell 20% to 1,703 deals.

How London M&A advisory companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
M&A advisory firms earn fees by turning corporate events into managed processes: preparing vendors for sale, finding acquisition targets, coordinating diligence, supporting valuations, negotiating terms and helping raise capital. Revenue is usually mandate-based rather than recurring. Fees tend to combine an upfront retainer with milestone or completion-based success fees, while narrower valuation, readiness or strategy work is more likely to be fixed-scope. The service shape is professional advice supported by research, modelling, relationship access and project management. For smaller boutiques, origination often sits with partners and senior advisers; delivery then depends on analysts, associates and external specialists across tax, legal, debt and due diligence work.
Who they sell to
Most clients are founders, owner-managers, boards, finance directors, private investors and management teams with a transaction already under consideration or a near-term succession issue. Buying is relationship-led: referrals from accountants, lawyers, investors and non-executive directors often matter more than formal procurement. Larger or public-company mandates may involve board selection, conflict checks, adviser presentations and written engagement terms, while private-company work can move through shorter beauty-parade processes. Decision-makers tend to test sector knowledge, buyer access, confidentiality discipline and the seniority of the proposed team. Fee exposure usually rises with deal value, so even modest advisory appointments can receive board-level scrutiny.
What they buy
Most M&A advisory firms tend to spend on tools and services that improve origination, diligence control and client reporting without adding much operational weight. Common software categories include CRM, deal pipeline management, secure document management, virtual data rooms, e-signature, valuation modelling, compliance monitoring, AML and KYC workflow, finance systems and time recording. Research and market-intelligence subscriptions are also relevant because sector mapping, buyer identification and precedent analysis sit close to the core service. Outside software, these firms buy specialist legal support, tax advice, cyber security, recruitment, brand and content marketing, event support and outsourced finance. Smaller practices usually prefer tools that reduce administrative drag for senior dealmakers.
Why and how to sell to them
Lumpy mandate flow, confidentiality risk and partner-led delivery shape buying behaviour. M&A advisory buyers tend to evaluate vendors when they hire senior advisers, open a new sector focus, move into public-company or cross-border work, tighten FCA-perimeter controls, or see a rise in live mandates that strains analyst capacity. Outbound usually works better when it links to a transaction workflow rather than a generic productivity claim: cleaner buyer lists, faster document collation, clearer audit trails, fewer compliance gaps, or better visibility of deal pipeline. Messages should recognise that reputation and client ownership sit with individuals, so adoption needs to be low-friction for busy senior teams.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
