SaaS Companies in Manchester: 1,600+ Active Firms (2026)
SaaS companies in Manchester sell subscription-priced cloud software to organisations across the city-region and wider UK markets.
Buying centres tend to sit in finance and revenue operations, vertical workflow teams, customer support, and developer or infrastructure functions. Manchester-area suppliers usually sell to B2B buyers, public-sector teams or regulated-industry customers that need recurring access, onboarding, account management and integration support rather than one-off licence purchases. Engagements often range from departmental subscriptions for smaller firms to multi-site deployments where security, availability and customer-data handling shape procurement. The cohort therefore spans lean commercial operators, specialist technical employers and mid-market vendors serving UK and international customers from the city-region.

Manchester has 1,602 actively trading SaaS companies, making the city-region a sizeable UK base outside the capital. Reported employment totals 1,798 people, although headcount coverage captures only firms that publish staff numbers. The company mix still looks long-tailed: 44 firms report turnover above £5M, while 483 were incorporated since 2022. That points to a market with recent formation at one end and a much smaller group of higher-turnover operators at the other, rather than a cohort dominated by mature platforms.
No single UK licensing regime applies to SaaS suppliers. Regulatory exposure usually follows the customer workflow: personal-data processing brings UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act and ICO guidance into scope, while consumer, contract and sector-specific rules matter where software serves regulated clients. Cloud dependence also gives the sector a market-structure angle. The CMA’s public cloud infrastructure case has put infrastructure supply under competition scrutiny, with remedies following an adverse competition finding and strategic market status work prioritised for major infrastructure providers. That is not a SaaS-provider licensing regime, but it affects the operating environment for cloud-dependent vendors.
Manchester’s cohort appears weighted towards small, revenue-generating suppliers rather than a deep bench of higher-turnover platforms. Procurement friction is likely to sit around security assurance, data-processing terms, uptime expectations and integration work, especially where buyers are regulated or public-sector organisations. The early-commercial layer may keep forming as cloud tools spread through narrower workflows, but the scarcer scale-up layer suggests that consolidation, acquisition by larger software groups and gradual specialisation are more plausible than a broad shift into enterprise-scale vendors. Local firms that can pair product depth with account management tend to be better placed for repeat contracts.

Key facts
About 2% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (44 of 1,602 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
30% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (483 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
SaaS suppliers are not generally licensed as a single UK sector; regulatory exposure usually comes through data protection, cyber security, consumer or contract law, and client-sector rules.
The ICO oversees UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 obligations where SaaS providers process personal data.
The CMA closed its UK public-cloud infrastructure investigation on 31 July 2025 after finding an adverse effect on competition leading to remedies.
techUK characterises cloud computing as a driver of the UK’s data-driven economy, with cloud platforms, infrastructure and services supporting businesses across industries.
The International Trade Administration describes the UK as the second largest ICT market by ICT spending per head, after the US.

How Manchester SaaS companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Manchester SaaS firms usually make money through recurring contracts: per-seat subscriptions, tiered packages, usage-based fees, add-on modules and, for heavier deployments, implementation or integration work. The product is normally a hosted application or platform with customer support, account management, product development and reliability work sitting behind it. Smaller customers may buy month-to-month or annual departmental access; larger accounts often expect onboarding, migration help, service commitments and contract terms covering data handling. Revenue can also include training, premium support and partner services, but pure one-off project work is usually peripheral to the model.
Who they sell to
Typical buyers are business, public-sector or regulated-industry teams that need software embedded in a recurring workflow. Commercial conversations tend to involve a functional owner first: finance, revenue operations, support, compliance, engineering or procurement, with a CTO, CFO or security lead joining once integration, budget and risk questions appear. Smaller contracts may close through self-serve signup, founder-led selling or a short direct-sales process. Mid-market and public-sector opportunities usually move through demos, security questionnaires, procurement portals, framework purchasing or RFPs, so sellers should expect slower approvals where customer data, uptime or multi-site rollout is material.
What they buy
Most Manchester SaaS firms tend to spend on the systems that keep recurring revenue and product delivery controlled: CRM, marketing automation, subscription billing, revenue recognition, customer success, support desk tooling and product analytics. Technical teams commonly buy cloud hosting, monitoring, observability, testing, identity management, security assessment, backup and data infrastructure. As firms hire, they also need recruitment support, payroll, HR systems, employment law advice and finance operations. Specialist demand often appears around penetration testing, UK GDPR support, contract review, channel marketing and sales development capacity, especially when a vendor is moving from founder-led selling to a repeatable commercial motion.
Why and how to sell to them
SaaS buyers tend to evaluate vendors when a commercial or operational threshold exposes gaps: new senior hires, a funding event, entry into regulated customer accounts, a public-sector tender, headcount growth, churn pressure or a move from small-team subscriptions into larger annual contracts. Common pain points include longer security reviews, weak usage visibility, manual billing, support backlogs, integration debt and difficulty proving service reliability to cautious buyers. Outbound usually lands better when it is tied to those triggers: helping sales pass procurement, reducing onboarding drag, improving renewal discipline, preparing for audits or giving product and finance teams cleaner evidence for pricing, usage and retention decisions.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
