Travel And Hospitality Companies in Liverpool: 2,018 Active Firms (2026)
Travel and hospitality companies in Liverpool sell accommodation, dining, leisure and trip services across the city-region visitor economy.
Demand is split between consumer-facing local spend, inbound leisure traffic, employers buying rooms and event space, and intermediated trip bookings. The main buying centres are operational rather than technical: accommodation management, licensed food and drink, attractions, tours, and booking or package-travel distribution. Engagements tend to be transactional for meals, tickets and short stays, with longer commercial relationships around corporate rates, venue hire, group travel and managed events. The cohort also includes owner-managed venues alongside multi-site operators, so supplier qualification often turns on trading history, staffing depth, licensing position and reported revenue rather than a single sector label.
Liverpool has 2,018 actively trading travel and hospitality firms in this list, giving the city-region a sizeable base of venues, accommodation operators, attractions and travel sellers rather than a market made up only of destination brands. Reported employment across the cohort totals 2,478 people, reflecting the labour-intensive nature of food service, licensed premises and accommodation. The revenue tail is narrower: 22 firms report turnover above £5M, while 814 have been incorporated since 2022, which points to frequent new entry at the smaller-operator end.
Flight-inclusive travel sales sit in a different risk category from restaurants, hotels and attractions because the CAA’s ATOL regime protects travellers’ money if a travel organiser ceases trading. Operators selling package holidays in the UK need to treat that authorisation as a core compliance dependency, not a marketing badge. Licensed hospitality has a separate permissions stack: alcohol supply in England and Wales needs authorisation from the local licensing authority under the Licensing Act framework overseen by the Home Office. UKHospitality and ABTA also shape policy debate and dispute-routing, but membership does not replace statutory licensing.
The Liverpool cohort appears weighted towards smaller and younger operators, with scaled revenue groups present but scarce. That shape tends to favour churn, rebrandings and site-level changes rather than a clean progression from start-up to regional group. Compliance may also separate casual entrants from more durable operators: package-travel sellers have bonding and consumer-protection obligations, while licensed venues carry local-authority scrutiny. Consolidation appears more likely around proven sites, repeatable food-service formats, accommodation management and booking-led operators than around broad visitor-economy labels. Demand may remain event- and season-sensitive, so reported turnover is likely to be uneven across the cohort.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (22 of 2,018 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
40% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (814 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
The CAA’s ATOL regime protects travellers’ money when a travel operator ceases trading, with ATOL holders paying £2.50 per traveller into the protection fund.
Hospitality venues in England and Wales selling or supplying alcohol need local-authority authorisation under the Licensing Act 2003, with permanent alcohol sales normally requiring a premises licence.
UKHospitality puts hospitality at 3.6 million workers and £96 billion of direct annual contribution to the UK economy.
ONS estimated 42.6 million overseas-resident visits to the UK in 2024, with £32.5 billion spent, and labels the 2024 travel estimates as official statistics in development.
UK residents made an estimated 94.6 million visits abroad in 2024 and spent £78.6 billion, leaving outbound travel larger than inbound travel by both trip count and spend.

How Liverpool Travel And Hospitality companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Liverpool travel and hospitality operators usually earn in small, repeated transactions: room nights, covers, bar spend, admission tickets, tour seats and booking commissions. Accommodation and venue businesses add contracted revenue through corporate rates, meetings, weddings, private dining and managed events, while travel sellers take package margin, agency commission or service fees. Software-style economics are uncommon unless the business is a booking intermediary; most of the sector sells physical capacity, staffed service and time-bound access. Cash collection is often upfront or at point of sale, but supplier costs, payroll, cancellations and refunds make working capital less tidy than headline bookings suggest.
Who they sell to
Buyers split between consumers, visiting groups, employers and trade intermediaries. Restaurants, bars and attractions are mostly direct-to-consumer, with venue managers and general managers controlling day-to-day purchasing. Hotels, serviced accommodation and event venues also sell to office managers, HR teams, travel managers, executive assistants and procurement teams buying rooms or hospitality around meetings and staff events. Travel organisers and booking services tend to work through direct enquiries, affiliate or agent relationships, and sometimes RFPs for corporate or group travel. Sales cycles range from instant online purchase to negotiated seasonal or annual agreements; most suppliers need to prove reliability before price optimisation matters.
What they buy
Most operators tend to spend on systems and services that keep tills open, staff scheduled and inventory sellable. Common categories include booking and property-management software, EPOS, card payments, accounting, payroll, rota planning, customer messaging, review management, email marketing and basic analytics. Accommodation and travel sellers may also buy channel management, payment protection, refund handling, call answering, cyber security and insurance advice. Licensed venues add food and drink supply, cellar services, cleaning, waste, pest control, maintenance, utilities brokerage, music licensing support, recruitment and training. The buying case is usually operational: fewer manual tasks, fewer missed bookings, cleaner reporting and less disruption during service.
Why and how to sell to them
Commercial intent often appears when an operator opens a site, changes management, adds rooms or event capacity, moves from owner-managed control to delegated managers, or has to evidence compliance for licensing, insurance or package-travel protection. Other triggers include rising wage pressure, card-cost reviews, poor booking conversion, repeated no-shows, late rota changes and gaps in finance reporting. Sellers tend to get further with specific, low-friction propositions: show the effect on occupancy, table turns, refund exposure, staff hours or cash reconciliation. A pitch that fits around service peaks and avoids a long implementation burden is usually more credible than a broad efficiency claim.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
