Tourism Companies in Stoke-on-Trent: 595 Active Firms (2026)
Tourism companies in and around Stoke-on-Trent sell accommodation, venue, catering and travel services to residents, visitors and business groups.
Buying centres split between leisure consumers, corporate travel organisers, public-sector event buyers and venue or catering procurement teams. Owner-managed operators tend to win through local relationships and repeat bookings, while larger employers sell contracted accommodation blocks, event packages and group itineraries with more formal quote and compliance cycles. Engagements range from short-notice consumer bookings to contracted corporate hospitality, school or civic trips, and hosted events where food, staffing, licensing and venue availability sit inside the same buying decision. The result is a mixed consumer and business-to-business market rather than a single visitor-economy supply chain.
Stoke-on-Trent has 595 actively trading tourism companies in this cohort, making it a local operating base rather than a national centre of gravity. The reported employment footprint is 2,094 people, which points to a sizeable frontline workforce relative to the number of active operators. The mix appears weighted towards venues, accommodation, catering and travel intermediaries with day-to-day exposure to seasonal demand, event calendars and discretionary household spending. Scale is uneven: most operators look owner-managed or small-employer in character, while the higher-turnover group is narrow.
Flight-inclusive travel selling brings a different control point from ordinary venue or restaurant trading. The CAA’s ATOL regime protects customer money if an operator ceases trading, and the CAA position is that any package holiday sold in the UK must be ATOL protected. Alcohol-led hospitality is handled locally: in England and Wales, venues selling or supplying alcohol need authorisation from the local licensing authority, usually the council, with permanent sales normally tied to a premises licence and a personal licence holder. ABTA and UKHospitality also shape representation and dispute-routing, but membership does not replace statutory permission.
Further consolidation appears more likely around operators that can combine venues, catering and accommodation into a contracted offer for employers and civic buyers. Smaller firms tend to remain exposed to wage pressure, late booking behaviour and licensing compliance, particularly where alcohol sales or hosted events are central to revenue. Travel intermediaries face a sharper compliance boundary when packages include flights, so scale may favour operators with dedicated administration rather than purely seasonal staffing. The cohort is likely to keep a broad owner-managed base, with relatively few firms moving into sustained regional scale.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (6 of 595 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
39% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (236 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
UKHospitality puts hospitality employment at 3.6 million people and direct annual economic contribution at £96 billion.
ONS estimates overseas residents made 42.6 million visits to the UK in 2024 and spent £32.5 billion, with the estimates labelled official statistics in development.
UK residents made 94.6 million visits abroad in 2024 and spent £78.6 billion, so outbound travel remains a larger spending pool than inbound visits.
Flight-inclusive package holidays sold in the UK fall under the CAA’s ATOL regime, and ATOL holders pay £2.50 per traveller into a trust fund for refunds, reimbursement or repatriation.
Venues in England and Wales selling or supplying alcohol need local-authority authorisation under the Licensing Act 2003, with permanent alcohol sales normally requiring a premises licence.

How Stoke-on-Trent Tourism companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Tourism companies in Stoke-on-Trent tend to earn revenue through room nights, admission or activity fees, catering margins, venue hire, package commissions and event-management charges. Pricing is usually per booking, per head or per event, with deposits and cancellation terms doing much of the risk management. Accommodation and venues may also sell contracted allocation to employers, coach groups or civic organisers, while travel intermediaries earn margin or commission on assembled itineraries. The service shape is operational rather than purely advisory: staff scheduling, food and drink supply, premises availability, customer handling and compliance paperwork sit close to the sale.
Who they sell to
Most sell to a mix of households, schools, local employers, group travel organisers and public-sector buyers. Consumer bookings may come through phone, web enquiry or walk-in demand, while corporate and civic work tends to involve quotes, risk assessments, insurance evidence, menu or rooming-list changes and purchase-order administration. Decision-makers are usually owners, office managers, HR and events teams, heads of procurement, school administrators or finance leads. Sales cycles range from same-day leisure bookings to several months for event series, accommodation blocks or package travel, especially when safeguarding, accessibility, alcohol licensing or cancellation exposure need sign-off.
What they buy
Most tourism firms tend to spend on booking and reservation systems, payment acceptance, accounting, payroll, rota management, customer messaging, review handling and basic marketing automation. Operators with venues or accommodation also buy point-of-sale, stock control, food safety support, facilities maintenance, cleaning, laundry, energy brokerage and insurance advice. Travel intermediaries are more likely to need itinerary management, client-money controls, document storage and compliance support around package sales. Recruitment, temporary staffing, training, health and safety consultancy and local search work often matter because service quality depends on frontline labour and because many bookings still start with local intent rather than a national procurement process.
Why and how to sell to them
Tourism buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when bookings outgrow manual administration, a venue adds catering or alcohol sales, a travel agency moves into package selling, or a new manager tries to tighten margin control. Other triggers include a run of poor customer reviews, higher cancellation volumes, seasonal hiring problems, premises refurbishment, insurance renewal or evidence that corporate enquiries are being lost through slow quoting. Outbound works better when it links to operational leakage: fewer missed enquiries, faster deposits, cleaner rotas, clearer licence evidence or lower reconciliation effort. Generic growth claims are less persuasive than reducing admin around dated, perishable inventory.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
