Veterinary Companies in London: 300+ Active Firms (2026)
Veterinary companies in London provide animal healthcare, diagnostics and practice-support services across the capital’s pet-care market.
Buying centres sit around owner-facing clinical care, referral and emergency provision, diagnostics, nursing support and the practice-management processes that keep urban clinics moving. Customers are mainly pet-owning households, with demand also shaped by animal-care partners that refer cases, outsource capacity or need clinical infrastructure. Commercial engagement tends to be local and repeat-use rather than a single enterprise sale: routine consultations, surgery, nursing, prescriptions, emergency access and practice support all have different price sensitivity. The relevant operators are usually high-throughput single sites or multi-site clinic groups, where professional staffing, published estimates and complaint handling matter as much as local reputation.
London has 307 active trading veterinary companies in this cohort, a relatively small slice of the capital’s local-services economy but one with daily consumer contact. Reported employment across those firms totals 1,283 people, reflecting clinical, nursing and front-of-house roles as well as practice administration. The shape is split between high-throughput single sites and multi-site operators; only a small minority reaches the revenue level associated with larger regional platforms, so much of the market still looks like regulated professional practice rather than corporate healthcare infrastructure.
Regulation sits with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, which maintains the Register of Veterinary Surgeons, oversees professional conduct and supervises UK undergraduate veterinary education. Veterinary nursing is also formally recognised through a separate register. The CMA’s household pet veterinary services work adds a competition lens: its measures cover price lists, written estimates, prescription fee caps, ownership transparency and complaints processes. A persistent structural issue is that the current legal regime applies to individual clinicians rather than the businesses or practices that employ them, which is why reform discussions focus on making veterinary businesses accountable to an independent regulator.
Future change appears likely to be shaped less by demand creation than by scrutiny of pricing, ownership and accountability. London operators that can explain estimates, prescriptions and complaints processes clearly should find the compliance burden easier to absorb, while smaller practices may face pressure where staffing, rent and out-of-hours cover stretch margins. Consolidation therefore tends to look plausible, but not inevitable: the service remains local, relationship-based and constrained by the supply of registered professionals. Referral, emergency and support-service models may keep attracting operators with scale ambitions, provided they can preserve clinical trust.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (3 of 307 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
30% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (95 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Veterinary surgeons are regulated by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, while veterinary nursing is formally recognised under the 2015 Supplemental Royal Charter.
The CMA’s veterinary services market investigation has set out legally binding measures on price lists, written estimates, prescription fee caps, ownership transparency and complaints processes.
The UK vets sector is valued at over £6.7 billion, serving a 2024 pet population of 10.6 million dogs, 10.8 million cats and 800,000 rabbits.
Cost pressure remains visible: 24% of owners, covering 5.4 million pets, said the cost of living had affected how they care for their pet.
Group-owned practice is more common in the UK than much of Europe, with corporatisation rising from 10% in 2013 to 60% in 2024.

How London veterinary companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
London veterinary operators earn revenue through a mix of appointment fees, procedure charges, diagnostics, medicine dispensing, emergency access and referral work. Some also use care plans or subscription-style bundles for vaccinations, check-ups and parasite treatment, which help smooth demand between higher-value clinical events. The commercial unit is usually a local client relationship rather than a one-off enterprise contract: a household may start with routine care, then add imaging, dental work, surgery or repeat prescriptions over time. Support-service operators sit slightly differently, selling infrastructure, nursing cover, diagnostics or practice administration to clinics that need extra capacity without building it themselves.
Who they sell to
Most customer demand comes from pet owners, so practice-level selling looks more like local healthcare retail than corporate procurement. Decisions are influenced by price visibility, perceived clinical quality, appointment access, location and trust in the clinical team. Where veterinary businesses sell to other organisations, buyers are typically practice owners, clinical directors, operations managers, finance leads or referral coordinators at clinic groups, charities and animal-care partners. Routine consumer spend is direct and short-cycle; referral, emergency or outsourced support arrangements tend to involve more relationship-building, service-level discussion and clinical sign-off. Formal RFPs are less common, except where larger groups centralise buying.
What they buy
Most veterinary firms tend to spend on systems and services that reduce practice administration, protect clinical time and keep client communication orderly. Common buying categories include practice-management software, online booking, reminders, payments, billing, stock control, dispensing workflows, diagnostic equipment, imaging support, laboratory services, cyber security, data backup and telephony. People-related spend is also material, particularly recruitment, locum cover, payroll, HR advice, training and rota management. Urban clinics also buy waste handling, cleaning, facilities maintenance, insurance, accountancy and legal support. Sellers usually need to fit around clinical workflows, not just back-office preferences, because reception, nursing and veterinary teams all touch the process.
Why and how to sell to them
Veterinary buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when capacity, compliance or client trust comes under pressure: a new site opening, a practice acquisition, a new practice manager, longer appointment queues, staff churn, complaint volumes or changes to pricing and prescription processes. Cost-sensitive owners make missed appointments, unclear estimates and slow follow-up more visible, while regulatory and competition scrutiny raises the value of audit trails and consistent client communication. Outbound angles usually land better when they are framed around saved clinical minutes, clearer estimates, fewer manual handoffs, better rota coverage or cleaner reporting for practice managers and group operators.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
