B2C Companies in the UK: 87,000+ Active Firms (2026)
Business-to-consumer companies in the UK sell products or services directly to individual customers across online, physical and service channels.
Consumer acquisition, channel management and unit economics tend to sit at the centre of this cohort. Buying centres include ecommerce and retail operations, subscription teams, marketplace operators, leisure and hospitality management, and regulated consumer-service functions where conversion, retention and fulfilment have to be managed together. The customer is the individual household rather than a procurement department, so sales cycles are usually shorter, price points lower, and operational volume higher than in enterprise markets. Engagements range from single online purchases and recurring subscriptions to branch-based services, with mid-market operators and large enterprises typically needing both marketing capacity and frontline delivery.
87,067 B2C firms are actively trading in the UK, spanning small digital sellers, national retail and leisure operators, subscription businesses and consumer-service providers. Reported headcount stands at 24,125 employees, so the employment footprint is not just a software-style founder cohort; it includes frontline, fulfilment and venue-based roles as well as central commercial teams. The market is also likely to be uneven, with lean online models sitting beside operationally heavier formats.
The operating context is fragmented because B2C is a route to market, not a single legal category. Consumer-facing firms can face different obligations depending on whether they handle payments, offer subscriptions, arrange leisure or hospitality services, sell physical goods, process personal information, or operate in regulated consumer-service channels. Market structure also differs by channel: ecommerce and subscription models tend to concentrate spend on acquisition and retention, while physical retail, hospitality and personal services carry higher exposure to premises, staffing and local trading conditions. That makes comparability harder than in narrower vertical software or industrial categories.
Future movement appears likely to depend less on novelty and more on distribution efficiency, repeat purchase behaviour and the cost of serving consumers across mixed channels. Digital-first operators tend to have lower fixed overheads but can be exposed to acquisition costs and churn; venue-based and service-led operators have more visible capacity constraints. Consolidation may favour firms that can combine brand, fulfilment and customer retention without pushing service costs too far upwards. For researchers, the useful split is likely to remain between lean consumer platforms, operational retail and leisure groups, and regulated service providers.

Key facts
About 5% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (4,626 of 87,067 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
8% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (7,346 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
B2C exposure tends to show changes in household spending, channel mix and service demand before they are visible in many supplier markets.
The sector spans online, physical and service-led consumer channels, so route-to-market assumptions need checking before comparing firms.
Lean direct-to-consumer operators and labour-intensive consumer-service models sit under the same B2C label, making operating model a useful first segmentation cut.

How UK B2C companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Revenue usually arrives from many small consumer payments rather than a few negotiated accounts. Models include ecommerce margins on physical goods, subscription fees for repeat-access services, booking or ticketing income, commission on marketplace transactions, ad-supported audiences, and service fees for appointments or branch-based work. Pricing tends to be published, promotional and tested by channel, with discounts, bundles and loyalty mechanics affecting margin. Product shape varies from digital storefronts and consumer apps to shop floors, venues, delivery networks and contact-centre operations. The common commercial problem is less whether a buyer can be persuaded once, and more whether acquisition cost, fulfilment cost and repeat purchase leave enough margin.
Who they sell to
End customers are individual consumers and households, often reached through search, social media, email, marketplaces, affiliates, stores, call centres or local service teams. Decision-making is usually personal, price-sensitive and influenced by reviews, delivery promises, location and brand trust rather than formal procurement. For suppliers selling into these firms, the useful contacts are typically the chief marketing officer, head of ecommerce, operations director, finance lead, customer service leader and, in larger operators, procurement or information security. Smaller firms may buy self-serve or through agencies; mid-market and enterprise buyers tend to run demos, pilots and negotiated annual contracts, especially where customer data, payments or fulfilment are involved.
What they buy
Spend tends to follow the customer journey. Most B2C firms buy tools and services for acquisition, attribution, email and messaging, ecommerce trading, payments, fraud screening, loyalty, customer support, reviews, subscriptions, booking, returns and fulfilment. Operationally heavier retailers, hospitality groups and personal-service providers also need point-of-sale systems, workforce scheduling, payroll, facilities support, stock management, delivery partners and call-centre capacity. As firms mature, finance, tax, analytics, data warehousing, cyber security, privacy support and legal advice become more visible in buying cycles. Agencies still matter because many operators prefer outsourced campaign, creative, search and conversion-rate work before hiring specialist teams in-house.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying triggers tend to be observable: a new store format, a marketplace launch, rising paid-acquisition spend, a subscription push, more customer service hiring, warehouse or venue expansion, or a finance leader brought in to tighten margin control. Pain points usually sit around customer acquisition cost, churn, basket size, refund rates, payment failures, stock availability, staff scheduling and service consistency across channels. Outbound works better when it ties the pitch to a unit-economic lever rather than a generic efficiency claim: lower failed payments, fewer returns, faster complaint handling, cleaner consent records, higher repeat purchase or clearer view of channel profitability. Proof should be operational, not just brand-led.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
